Our Family Has Fallen

Chapter 1171: Chapter 645: Padding the Plot

What happened to the woman was not an isolated case, the scene resonated with more people, and even required more manpower to maintain order.

No one is willing to be a prostitute for no reason, the profession is despised, and should be despised, what’s more, those who look average cannot command a high price, those pimps aren’t stupid, they choose carefully.

So among them, their backgrounds could be that they were kidnapped, trafficked, sold, or in any case, they were basically beaten.

It does not rule out that some were indeed forced into the trade, constituting a minority.

But now the Lord of Hamlet has taken down those guys, granting them freedom, it feels like a sun appearing in a dark sky for the first time for them.

However, there were only a few prostitutes who tested negative for diseases, frankly, not even a third, the rest were infected to varying degrees, putting immense pressure on the doctors.

Because too many people filled the hospital, and due to the contagious nature, according to hospital management regulations, they couldn’t be housed with regular patients, they had to be temporarily gathered in a camp for centralized placement.

Even Paracelsus came at that time.

Don’t doubt it, she came to inspect.

At the same time, to assess the symptoms, guide the doctors and nurses on precautions, they couldn’t risk getting infected themselves.

Initially, those women didn’t really believe it, after all, the fact that the lord granted them freedom was already good enough, and now they wanted to save them?

But the horror of the disease was something they had either felt themselves, or witnessed others be tormented by, possibly disappearing one day.

Some infected individuals had already given up and were waiting to die, not holding much hope for treatment.

In such an atmosphere, the doctors in Hamlet didn’t abandon them, but began to research those diseases instead.

They didn’t directly use the newly developed [Healing Potion], they were research subjects after all.

Paracelsus and Grendel were also involved in this project, one attempting to find the cause of the disease, the other trying other methods of treatment.

The process was complex, with gains but also costs, however, the emergence of the [Healing Potion] reduced the occurrence of severe medical incidents to a certain extent.

And now the overall research and treatment were not over, the interim report was placed in front of Lance.

”The situation is like this now, the effect of using the healing potion on a few seriously ill patients is very good, and it works quickly, but...”

Grendel explained briefly, but as soon as the word ”but” came out, it was clear it wasn’t that simple.

Simply put, it was mentioned that these diseases have a strong tendency to relapse, even if there is some effect with low-concentration potions, the disease would very quickly return, and if treatment is interrupted, it would likely recur swiftly.

As for high-concentration healing potions, the cost is too high, if it weren’t for this treatment being for testing research, these things wouldn’t be used on them.

”I understand why the Association of Healers is so wealthy now.”

Hearing this, Lance’s expression changed slightly, solemnly emphasizing.

”But that’s not our purpose, and that’s why we don’t align with the Association of Healers, we’re doing this independently, the hospital matter is non-negotiable, it must, and can only be operated by us.”

Why did Grendel specifically mention this? And why did Lance’s expression change?

Because the primary healing potion can control the condition, if stopped it will relapse, as long as the patient doesn’t want to be tormented, they have to keep using it.

What if they have no money? Then they sell their body, and this process continues spreading disease, equivalent to developing another patient, which needs treatment, right? Isn’t it still about money?

This chain spread is extremely terrifying, and this is the profit maximization pursued by the Association of Healers, even if they know there’s a potion that can truly heal, they probably won’t release it.

Just like when certain famous hospitals were exposed, some specializing in treating venereal diseases would find ways to spread them, increasing regional infection to profit, so don’t overestimate their bottom line, they’ll do anything for money,

Lance could only scoff at this.

”Venereal diseases should be controlled, because they are highly contagious, the mode of transmission is simple, and they aren’t easily cured by ordinary means.

Our current cost to save someone needs to be calculated in gold coins, why should they have fun and make us clean up the mess? I wish I could expel them all, let them die far away.”

Unlike those in the Association of Healers who create chaos in one place and then move on to open another, Lance is a lord, he needs to consider more, whoever dares to do such things to him, would end up in the sanatorium.

Grendel seemed to also sense the lord’s determination, so she stopped talking.

”Spread the news that we’ve conquered venereal disease treatment to let public opinion ferment first, then formulate a complete treatment course, of course, raise the price, we need to earn money too.

Also, remember to add some substances to the potions to change color and flavor, to distinguish the healing potions, after all, many people will be interested, records must be kept to ensure the potions aren’t leaked.

Of course, the healing potion is a panacea, but we can’t rely too heavily on it, we must continue to research other treatments.”

He and Grendel could see it, those in the Association of Healers or related interest parties would also foresee this, given their habit of monopolizing industries, it is destined to be another invisible war.
