Transmigrated as an Unwanted Ugly Girl

Chapter 648: Chapter 336: Taking the Medicinal Pill (2)

Juhua slept for three days and three nights. During that time, Qin Feng came over to perform acupuncture on her six times, while Yun Ying kept a constant vigil by her side in the room.

Zhang Dashuan and Madam He were extremely anxious. The entire Zheng family also came over in the evenings to see Juhua, staring silently at her lying in bed. Although they were all farmers, they weren’t fools. For Doctor Qin to go to such lengths for Juhua meant her body must have a serious problem.

Finally, Qingmu couldn’t hold back any longer and began to ask Qin Feng, ”Doctor Qin...”

Before he could finish, Qin Feng cut in with a smile, ”You all really don’t need to worry. I’ve told you before that Juhua’s constitution is weak. If she weren’t pregnant, I’d be confident in nursing her body back to health. But now that she is, we must be extremely careful with any medicine or other treatments. That’s why my junior sister and I are treating her this way. If you don’t believe me, just wait until she wakes up. You’ll find her spirits are much better.”

Hearing this, Qingmu and the others smiled sheepishly. ”We were just worried. This must be so much trouble for you, Doctor Qin! You’ve gone to such lengths for Juhua, we don’t even know how to thank you!”

Qin Feng beamed and said, ”Juhua promised to give me the use of one of her shops for free. You could say I’m just paying off a debt!”

This made everyone laugh, but they quickly quieted down, afraid of waking Juhua.

Yun Ying smiled at Qingmu and said, ”Before Juhua fell asleep, she was still thinking about those cherries. She said to have the dogs watch out for the birds, otherwise they’d eat them all.”

Zhang Dashuan quickly said, ”Tomorrow I’ll figure out a way to scare off the birds. I’ll trap a few with a flat sieve; then they won’t dare to come back. I’ll also let the dogs and cats out to frighten them off.”

Qingmu laughed and said to Qin Feng, ”Looks like we’ll have roasted birds to eat tomorrow.” Seeing his confusion, he explained how they would prepare and cook the birds they caught.

Qin Feng smiled faintly. ”I know how to do that, too.”

The two of them began quietly discussing how to roast the birds, which helped to lighten the somber atmosphere.

Even with Doctor Qin’s assurances, both families were still sick with worry seeing Juhua sleep for three straight days. However, out of their trust in him, they suppressed their anxiety and waited desperately for her to wake.

「Not until the morning of the fourth day did Juhua finally wake up.」

When she woke, the first thing she felt was an incredible hunger. She looked up and saw Yun Ying still sitting by the bed, idly flipping through a book out of boredom. Juhua sat up, stretched, and let out a huge yawn. ”Why didn’t you wake me?” she complained. ”I’ve slept for so long. It must be time for the midday meal, right? I’m starving.”

Her mind was still stuck three days in the past.

Seeing her awake, Yun Ying rushed over and asked joyfully, ”You’re awake? How do you feel?”

Juhua said, puzzled, ”My body... feels great! Oh, but I’m starving.”

Yun Ying said quickly, ”Auntie made some bone broth. She’s just been waiting for you to get up and drink it. Juhua, do you feel like you have more strength? Are your spirits better?”

She gazed at Juhua expectantly after asking, as if she would be devastated if the answer wasn’t good. ’This was the medicine my father left me,’ she thought. ’If it didn’t help Juhua at all, wasn’t it a complete waste?’

Juhua paused for a moment, then swung her legs off the bed and laughed. ”Of course! Do I look like I’m not doing well? If you want me to feel even better, two bowls of rice would do the trick.” She was so hungry that every sentence was about food.

Yun Ying was frustrated but didn’t know how else to ask. She could only follow Juhua around like a handmaiden, watching her and studying her constantly.

Madam He was washing clothes by the well when she saw Juhua walk out of the house. She was overjoyed. Tossing aside the basin of clothes, she wiped her hands on her apron and trotted over to her. ”Juhua, you’re up!” she asked with a smile. ”Is there anything you want to eat?”

Juhua quickly replied, ”I want a proper meal. Mother, you go on with your work, don’t worry about me. I’ll use the toon sprouts my brother brought this morning to scramble some eggs, and with a side of sour bamboo shoots, I could eat two bowls of rice. Have you all had your midday meal yet? If not, I’ll make extra.” She still had no idea how long she’d been asleep.

Madam He said quickly, ”Oh, those toon sprouts are all gone. I’ll go to your parents’ place and cut some more in a bit. Juhua, you’ve been asleep for three days. This is the fourth day. It’s not even noon yet; we just finished breakfast a little while ago.”

Juhua was dumbfounded. ”I slept for three days?” she asked in disbelief. ”How is that possible?” She turned to look at Yun Ying. ’Did she really stay by my side for three whole days?’

Yun Ying nodded in confirmation. ”To be precise, you slept for three days and three nights. Juhua, how does your body feel?” She couldn’t let the question go and seized the opportunity to ask again.

This time, Juhua didn’t brush her off. Sleeping for three days was not normal; she knew she had to answer the doctor’s question properly. She took a moment to seriously assess how she felt. ”Even after sleeping for so long, I don’t feel sore at all. In fact, I feel refreshed and clear-headed. It’s like... it’s like those times I’ve had a perfect night’s sleep with no dreams—so good you don’t even feel the time pass. It feels like I just closed my eyes and woke right back up. Mm, I have my strength back, too. I’m just hungry. Oh my! I haven’t eaten in three days, no wonder! Mother, have you prepared anything? Scrambled eggs with toon sprouts won’t be enough.”

She suddenly realized that since she hadn’t eaten in days, one dish of scrambled eggs with toon sprouts wouldn’t be nearly enough. But she was sure Madam He would have prepared some other nice dishes for her when she woke up.

Yun Ying was delighted to hear her words. She was about to ask a few more questions when she saw Juhua talking about food again. A thought suddenly struck her: ’Isn’t this a sign of brimming vitality?’ Full of excitement, she said, ”Don’t worry, Auntie has prepared a lot of food! There’s even some wild game. I’ll eat with you.”

In her excitement, she realized she was a little hungry herself.

Madam He grabbed a small basket and hurried over to the Zheng family’s home to cut some toon sprouts.

When Madam Yang heard that Juhua was awake and wanted to eat toon sprouts, she immediately grabbed a long bamboo pole with a sickle tied to its end. She cut down all the remaining tender shoots from the top of the toon tree, then went back with Madam He to see Juhua. She had been worried sick these past few days, unable to even focus on her farm work.
