I Am Not A Goblin Slayer

Chapter 538: Chapter 299: Gauss’s Miraculous Enlightenment Spell (2)

”There’s a basic skill for a Ranger here, Rapid Fire. You can browse through it and see if you can understand it.”

”This...”

Maggie, who was originally in a daze, immediately widened her eyes and looked at the brand new booklet in Gauss’ hands.

Even without encountering this upheaval, saving up to purchase a skill book was her goal. Now seeing the thing she longed for suddenly appear before her, she was overwhelmed with emotion.

”Take it, you need it very much, don’t you?”

Gauss knew the flame of hatred towards monsters in her heart had already been lit.

Even without his ”sponsorship,” she would still find ways to gain power and then seek revenge on the monsters.

Honestly, until he took out this skill book, he was pondering whether this was good or bad for Maggie.

In the end, he still felt that despite the dangers of becoming an adventurer, she needed power more.

Anyway, a major goal of his outing was to ”ignite folk arts,” helping more potential adventurers tread the path to becoming professionals.

Maggie hesitated for a moment and then decisively took the skill booklet from Gauss.

The events of the past two days had completely changed the trajectory of her life.

She had never desired power so much.

If she had even a tenth of the power of the man before her, she could have saved her family and friends, rather than cowering behind a tree, praying the monsters in the mist wouldn’t find her.

The kind of deep-seated, helpless feeling of leaving everything to fate was something she truly didn’t want to experience a second time.

”Thank you so much, Lord Gauss.”

Her gaze towards Gauss was filled with gratitude.

Not only did he save her life, but he also gave her the skill, providing her with the power for future revenge.

”How should I repay you?”

She asked.

”Repay?”

Gauss shook his head.

Since becoming an adventurer, he had helped many people, and naturally, some like Maggie had asked him the same question.

”I don’t need anything in return.”

”If possible, please make good use of this power.”

Maggie tightly gripped the skill book upon hearing his words.

”I understand, I will work hard to eliminate more monsters like you.”

Maggie’s gaze towards Gauss held a hint of longing.

She had noticed earlier that Gauss’ skill in killing monsters was simply astonishing.

With just a wave of his hand, monsters fell like straw in heaps, an utterly shocking scene.

Furthermore, he seemed very keen on slaughtering monsters.

So, does Lord Gauss have a similar experience to hers?

”...”

Gauss looked at her fervent gaze, and the determination that seemed to be a kind of sworn mission, and fell into a brief silence.

Although he had anticipated it, he didn’t feel that ordinary people needed to be like him, nor could they be like him.

Ultimately, if there really had to be someone in the world to bear the mission of being a monster slayer, it should be him, not these ordinary people.

Seeing Maggie starting to idolize him.

Gauss sighed.

”I hope that before embarking on the path of an adventurer, you will learn to master this skill as proficiently as possible.”

”Life only happens once.”

”Even I, before becoming an adventurer, went through considerable training.”

Of course, this was a kind lie.

For Maggie’s safety.

Though he was quite reckless at first, drilling into the forest with just a small oak shield and wooden spear, looking back now, it was indeed very dangerous.

You could say it’s like a newborn calf not fearing the tiger, plus the temptation of rewards from the Adventurer’s Handbook, which kept him from fully preparing.

At this moment, Aaliyah was looking at him with a skeptical gaze.

However, she was not clear about Gauss’ initial situation either.

When she and Gauss actually formed a team, Gauss was already a Level 1 Professional.

But judging by Gauss’ rate of advancement, she reckoned that Gauss probably didn’t stay long at the Bottom Adventurer stage.

”I understand,” Maggie nodded seriously. ”I will make sure to train the skill thoroughly before setting out.”

In her eyes, Gauss might be a senior with a similar experience to hers, not to mention her savior and subject of admiration. She naturally took Gauss’ advice to heart.

She began to skim through the contents of the skill book.

Though she claimed to know some words, seeing her occasionally furrowed brows, Gauss had a rough understanding of her true level.

He wasn’t surprised either.

Being able to recognize some characters was already impressive for ordinary people.

Based on his ”village teaching” experience during this period, even village ”intellectuals” boasting literacy were actually quite unrefined.

The text in skill books was generally rather esoteric.

For this situation, Gauss naturally had a solution.

”Having trouble understanding it?”

”Yes... yes,” Maggie’s cheeks flushed slightly.

”No worries, I’ll teach you.”

Thus, he asked Maggie to stop for a moment, then no longer restrained the changes brought by the ”Dragon Language” talent, magic power naturally flowing into his throat.

”Fluent in Language.”

Intangible and unformed magic poured from his mouth, attaching itself to Maggie’s body.

Instantly, a refreshing sensation swept through Maggie’s head.

The words before her, originally difficult and incomprehensible, making her head dizzy, suddenly became adorable in her eyes.

She certainly wouldn’t think this was her sudden epiphany but immediately recognized this as Gauss’ mentioned assistance.

Seeing her astonished look, Gauss nodded secretly in his heart.

As expected, it was like the premonition he had felt.

The racial talent of Dragon Language paired with the spell ”Fluent in Language” worked exceptionally well.

It amplified more than other offensive spells.

Perhaps it’s what’s called specialization within crafts.

Talent also has its own ”sweet spot.”

He could distinctly feel that this time’s ”Fluent in Language” was at least twice as effective as before.

”Let us escort you home, you can continue reading on the way.”

”Okay.”

No more time wasted.

Gauss and his party mounted their steeds and headed towards Maggie’s village.

As an adult, Maggie originally had some literacy skills, and she also had some archery foundation. The only problem was the difficult concepts and principles in the skill book.

But the breath casting of Fluent in Language with Dragon Language’s enhancement seemed to not only allow her to understand language during the spell effect but also had a special auxiliary function.

During the journey, she had managed to grasp the gist of the skill book.

Though Gauss wasn’t a Ranger, with his professional level, his understanding of this archery skill naturally grasped the key points.

After a brief communication with her, he knew she largely understood it.

Next, she just needed to train according to the contents and methods in the skill book, and mastering this skill might not be too difficult.

Though Maggie’s personal talent and her foundation as a Hunter played into it, even without his help, she might have been able to self-study, grasp the ”Rapid Fire” skill by herself, but his spell evidently accelerated the process, also reflecting the uniqueness of”Fluent in Language” he released.

Perhaps, paired with Dragon Language, Fluent in Language had somewhat transcended its original base, becoming a new spell?

Gauss’ Inspiration Spell?

Perhaps he was quite suited to being a teacher?

Shaking his head.

Gauss temporarily set this idea aside.

In his feeling, this version of Fluent in Language just acted as a catalyst, speeding up the process.

If it was originally a piece of decayed wood, it likely still couldn’t achieve the effect of turning decay into miraculous.

”We’re here.”

Gauss and his party stopped in front of a village.

Maggie’s village wasn’t anything special, just like most villages.

It wasn’t particularly poor, nor was it some affluent village.

Under the surprised gazes of the villagers, Gauss escorted the ”missing” Maggie back to her home.

He chose not to go inside.

”We’ll be going, Maggie.”

Maggie knew that people like Gauss as ”big figures” were surely very busy, and she had already taken up a lot of his time, so wasting more of his time wouldn’t be polite. Thus, she had no intention of presumptively asking Gauss to stay.

”Okay, thank you so much. Farewell, Lords.”

She deeply bowed.

”Take care, see you again if fate permits, Maggie.”

Gauss waved his hand.

Under Maggie’s watch, he left the village along the village path.

There were still many things for him to do when he returned to the town.

Submit commissions.

Thoroughly receive the ”information flow” that came with Dragon Language, then use Elite Points to advance Dragon Language talent.

He felt Dragon Language talent might have more room for development, much like the situation with Fluent in Language.
