I Am Not A Goblin Slayer

Chapter 501: Chapter 284: Recovery

As for the possibility that the other party might be considering the Adventurer’s Guild’s investigation, so they didn’t take action, this possibility can’t be completely ruled out, but Gauss didn’t want to overcomplicate the issue.

A gentleman judges actions, not intent.

Whether it was because of her nature or an inexplicable goodwill towards him.

The objective fact is that after he fainted, Albena remained dutiful.

Moreover, she also helped Aaliyah and others clean up and organize the battlefield, assisting in keeping the information confidential.

”Thank you, Albena,” Gauss sincerely expressed his gratitude.

”I didn’t do much, Lord Gauss, what are you thanking me for?” Albena scratched her head in confusion.

”I should be the one thanking you, Lord Gauss, it was agreed that I would hold off that creature on the front line, but in the end, you had to bear it alone.”

A trace of guilt flashed across Albena’s face.

She could still recall Gauss’s injuries from a week ago.

His skin was cracked all over, blood streaming down his face, and it was said that his internal organs had shifted.

The injuries the mage in the team suffered were a shame to her as a warrior.

In her view, it was Gauss who risked his life to protect them, and he was very likely to have opened some kind of extremely costly blood frenzy state at that time.

”Lord Gauss, you are too gentle.”

If previously her goodwill towards Gauss stemmed merely from admiration for his appearance, now she felt genuine respect for him.

He truly was a good leader.

Clearly, as a mage, he could have stayed within the protection of the team, and even if a teammate got hurt or killed because of it, no one could blame him, but he chose to take the greatest risk willingly.

The light in her eyes sparkled as she looked at Gauss, her cheeks slightly flushed, though her healthy tan concealed it well.

”Next time, please don’t be so reckless, just stand confidently behind me,” Albena took a deep breath, her gaze becoming firm.

Next time...

Gauss repeated silently in his heart, pondering for a moment.

But at the moment, he just nodded silently and replied with a smile.

”Okay.”

Because of the new injuries on his body, he would probably need to stay near Gold and Silver Town for a while.

To recuperate, train a dragon, and receive the improvements brought by this commission.

He could feel that some kind of change seemed to be taking place inside his body.

In the sea of consciousness, the source of power symbolizing the Magic Envoy and the sword soul was in a very active state, but due to the unusual injuries to his body, it maintained its current state.

Fortunately, he could feel that the speed of his body’s recovery was quite pleasing, so he wasn’t too anxious.

”Lord Gauss, once you recover, I’ve prepared a surprise for you,” Albena suddenly said mysteriously.

A surprise?

Gauss exchanged a glance with her and saw her secretive look, feeling a bit curious.

After Albena’s arrival, Serdur and Ying soon followed.

These days, they had been busy selling some materials scavenged from the Kobold lair.

”Captain, you need to rest well these days, don’t move around to avoid causing secondary injuries to your body,” Serdur checked Gauss over again. ”I’ll go prepare medicine for you later.”

Even though he felt Gauss’s injuries were not a major issue, to ensure absolute safety, he still advised seriously.

Injuries, whether for ordinary people or professionals, are something that cannot be taken lightly.

Many professionals have been adversely affected in their future level advancements or even had their lifespan shortened because they didn’t properly heal their injuries.

”Okay, okay.”

Gauss found that his teammates treated him as a priority protection target, causing him to smile wryly, but his heart was warm, filled with goodwill and concern.

”What about you, Ying, do you have any reminders?”

He looked at Ying, who was standing in the corner and silent, and asked with a smile.

”I...”

Probably didn’t expect Gauss to suddenly look at her.

Ying, who had been somewhat absent-minded since entering the room, was taken aback.

”Take good care of your wounds and get better soon.”

”Mm, got it,” Gauss looked at her and gave a wink.

He increasingly felt that she had something on her mind.

He had noticed her inexplicable low mood, which is why he took the initiative to strike up a conversation.

...

Time passed quickly.

In the few days after waking up, Aaliyah imposed strict management on Gauss.

He had no choice but to rest leisurely in bed for many days.

During this period, besides his teammates, the president of the Gold and Silver Town Adventurer’s Guild, Jon, also came to visit him.

Once again, there was a round of praise.

Although Gauss’s team didn’t report the existence of the Red Dragon Beast and that powerful Dragon Descendant, the workload of clearing out a large Kobold tribe couldn’t be overlooked.

Learning of the information, he was somewhat surprised by Gauss’s team’s speed and efficiency, their strength somewhat exceeding his expectations.

He originally thought it would take at least half a month.

In the morning, Gauss lay in bed, looking at the bright sun outside the window.

”My body should be able to get up now.”

Gauss had been lying down for nearly ten days; his joints were starting to feel rusty.

However, Aaliyah was a bit worried and insisted that Serdur conduct a thorough and careful examination again.

He turned his head to look at Serdur.

”How are the examination results?” Gauss was quite confident in his perception of his body.

”...”

Serdur hesitated for a moment.

From the examination results, there wasn’t much of a problem.

But out of caution, he originally wanted to instinctively give a conservative evaluation.

Yet, seeing Gauss’s ever-resolute gaze, after a moment’s thought, he still offered Aaliyah an apologetic smile.

”Sorry, Aaliyah. The captain’s body should be able to get up and move.”

”You!” Aaliyah gritted her teeth.

This guy actually betrayed her.

It was clearly agreed beforehand that, regardless of the results, Gauss should rest a bit longer since they were taking care of him, ensuring absolute safety.

She didn’t expect that he would change his stance in the end.

Not a reliable guy.

”Mm hmm?”

Gauss glanced at Aaliyah’s hand resting on his waist and gave her a knowing look.

After all, it was Aaliyah herself who said that with Serdur’s diagnosis without any issues, she’d let him move around freely.

”Hmm hmm.”

Aaliyah pouted.

She released her hand from Gauss.

Gauss got out of bed.

”Wu—”

That felt good.

The sensation of standing on his feet was marvelous.

It made him feel like he was a complete person again.

He stretched lazily.

”Crack crack—”

The long-immobile body produced crisp crackling sounds.

”Be careful,” Aaliyah urged, still worried.

After all, his injuries from that time were so frightening it nearly caused her trauma.

She was deeply afraid that if Gauss moved, his skin would crack open like last time.

”No worries, no worries.”

Gauss waved his hand.

He wasn’t some fragile plant; his constitution gave him stronger healing abilities, not to mention the bonuses from those racial talents.

”Lord Gauss does have a strong body.”

Albena nodded repeatedly on the side, her eyes full of admiration, her cheeks again slightly red.

She liked handsome men, and strong bodies too.

Gauss had both.

How could such a perfect creature exist in the world?

Especially thinking of Gauss in that half-human, half-dragon stance, suppressing a Dragon Beast with one hand, made her swallow hard.

It was truly heart-throbbing.

The group walked down the street.

Attracting quite a few gazes again.

During this time, under the promotion of the Adventurer’s Guild, almost all town residents knew that Gauss’s team set out to clear a Kobold nest located on a mine site not far from Gold and Silver Town.

There were rumors that the number of Kobolds was in the thousands.

Others claimed the number was ten thousand.

Carts filled with spoils of war stretched from one end of the town to the other.

As the saying goes, three men make a tiger, that’s the situation here.

No one could say exactly how many there were, because the specifics of most commissions aren’t disclosed to civilians.

The reason Jon was willing to share this information was truly because the commotion made by Gauss’s team was enormous that day, including the subsequent quantity of spoils, which was impossible to hide.

So instead, releasing the information proactively served to enhance Gauss’s reputation and also did him and his team a favor.
