I Am Not A Goblin Slayer

Chapter 510: Chapter 288: Dragon Raising Insights

It turns out, not only humans but dragons also have strong plasticity.

Under Gauss’s arrangement, the Red Dragon Beast quickly got along with the team’s animal companions.

”Cheer up, this is your colleague, you know?”

”The more it works, the less you have to work.”

Gauss patted the chocobo while talking to the Dragon Beast.

Essentially, there’s not much difference between a chocobo and it; they are both mounts.

Just that the chocobo is the promax version.

Of course, considering the rarity of the Dragon Beast, the chocobo remains an indispensable means of transportation in Gauss’s team.

”Roar~”

The Dragon Beast let out a low growl.

Seeing the wolves and birds around it, who were not the least bit afraid, it felt a little dispirited.

Lying down...

Speaking of which, the Red Dragon Beast felt its head itching these days, as if something was about to grow.

Its thoughts seemed to be a tad smarter than before.

Of course, it wasn’t thinking much about this right now.

Thinking about why its thinking ability has improved is too much of an operation in itself.

It rubbed its head against the tree trunk beside it, alleviating the faint itchiness, making it feel much more comfortable.

It simply closed its eyes and took a nap.

Out of sight, out of mind; as long as it didn’t see these lowly creatures scurrying around, it could deceive itself into believing they didn’t exist.

Moreover, it needed to conserve its energy.

After all, every night Gauss would ride it around patrolling, landing to engage in battles when monsters were discovered.

This unknowingly altered its biological clock to a night mode; come daytime, it couldn’t muster much energy, or maybe dragons are inherently lazy creatures.

After all, sleeping is something deeply ingrained in their bloodline.

Their race is just too superior.

Growing stronger just by sleeping, who would be willing to put in the effort?

In the past, the Red Dragon Beast also enjoyed such good days.

Sadly, Gauss’s arrival ended all that.

No matter how much it reminisced about the past, the days of acting like a god in the kobold’s lair were over.

The Red Dragon Beast shook its head, it still had work to do at night, so it soon fell asleep again.

Gauss didn’t disturb its sleep, though.

He wasn’t actually a violent person.

Most of the time, he considered himself a reasonable person.

Resorting to persuading the Dragon Beast with fists was more out of helplessness.

When dealing with such giant beasts, gentleness is seen as weakness, strength is authority.

Taking a glance at the snoozing giant dragon, and the Ulfen and other animals surrounding it, Gauss and Aaliyah breathed a sigh of relief.

Then they stopped bothering them and each found an open space to practice skills.

Recently, Gauss’s wallet was well-funded, so he bought two 3rd Ring spells, Magic Counter and Haste. After advancing to level 5, the difficulty of learning 3rd-level spells had significantly decreased.

He had originally wanted to purchase Vampire’s Touch as well, but unfortunately, this remote town’s supply of 3rd-level spells was very scarce.

Magic Counter, being more mainstream, had relatively better circulation.

Gauss recalled the effect of Magic Counter.

Magic Counter, unlike Fireball Technique or Magic Missile, which are tangible, is more like a high-end offensive and defensive technique, most commonly used in mage duels.

It allows the caster to interrupt and nullify the spell the other caster is performing.

Based on Gauss’s understanding from his past life, when the enemy starts ”reading” to cast a spell, casting this spell on them immediately can ”cut off” their casting process, rendering their spell ineffective and causing backlash as a result of the spell’s failure.

Such backlash may generally be mild, but in battle, it can be extremely deadly.

Of course, using this spell doesn’t guarantee 100% interruption of the opponent.

Specifically, it depends on factors like the level of the spells, the difference in strength between the two, the timing and status during casting, etc.

Overall, it’s very complex, but in duels of similar strength levels, the side possessing Magic Counter can still gain some initiative.

Even without using it, the opponent will be cautious and quite hesitant.

As for others using this spell against Gauss.

Gauss stated he was not worried.

Because his attributes are normally much stronger than other casters’, anyone wanting to interrupt his casting would have to surpass the strength difference caused by the disparity in their attributes.

Furthermore, he possesses a talent called Master of Stable Spellcasting, which inherently provides enough anti-interrupt capacity, making it exceedingly difficult to end his casting.

As for enemies overwhelmingly stronger than him.

That’s not something to worry about.

If they’re truly that strong, they could defeat him even without using Magic Counter.

Therefore, Gauss needed to learn this spell.

The effect is not great if an enemy uses it on him, but it works wonders when he uses it; what could be better?

Gauss had already completed the spell model construction in the past two days.

However, it’s basically impossible to train this spell alone.

Gauss looked around.

Finally, he came to Aaliyah’s side.

”Aaliyah, are you ready for special training? I have a special anti-interruption spellcasting training, which can effectively improve your casting stability in combat.”

”Huh?”

...

”Bang!”

The Natural Power in front of Aaliyah exploded.

Smoke and dust filled the air, making her look quite disheveled.

”Cough cough...”

She inhaled some dust and waved her hand to disperse the dust in front of her.

Perhaps because the difficulty level in releasing Magic Counter itself is not as challenging as Fireball Technique or Flying Technique.
