I Am Not A Goblin Slayer

Chapter 395: Chapter 245: Ying’s Choice to Stay or Leave

Gauss was not the only one conflicted.

Others were equally torn about their choices.

Selecting spells isn’t simply a big or small matter.

For one, there may never again be such a comprehensive list.

Many spells, even if you have the money, can’t be bought immediately because some spellbooks or skill books may not have much stock, or they might be quite niche.

Moreover, it’s best to choose spells that suit you as much as possible.

Choosing spells isn’t solely a financial issue; there’s also the time cost involved.

If you invest a lot of time only to find out it’s not suitable for you, for your team system, or even if you fundamentally can’t learn it, then you’ve wasted valuable time and energy.

Gauss hesitated for a long time.

Finally, he made his choice.

”My choice is...”

Adelle looked over.

”Fireball Technique and Flying Technique.”

Despite how tempting many spells appeared to him.

After much consideration, he still chose these two spells.

Fireball Technique is a famous spell, even before formally becoming a professional mage, he frequently heard people mention it.

A strong offensive spell never seems too much for him.

As for Flying Technique, it’s because of the deep impression left by the last encounter with the Goblin Bat Knight.

Although that night, he relied on Ying to stall it, slaughtered its companions clean, and thus scared it off, the apparent success masked underlying crises.

If that Goblin Bat Knight hadn’t retreated, but chose to rely on the night to hover over their heads and continuously harrass them with attacks, they truly wouldn’t have had a way out, possibly being driven to desperation.

As the level increases, the enemies faced may become stronger, and those with flying abilities might appear consistently.

Others can fly, while we can’t, putting us at a natural disadvantage.

Most spells have a limited range.

And even if they reach, if the distance is too far, it’s easy for opponents to dodge or for the spell’s power to be greatly reduced.

Even setting those aspects aside, the Flying Technique can grant the team greater mobility.

If overwhelmed, as long as the enemy lacks flying ability, there’s at least another escape route.

Whether they can escape is another matter, given the restrictions on speed and flight duration of the Flying Technique.

As for countering spells, he considered and abandoned this option because he currently faces more demons primarily, and not all demons possess spell skills, plus his Gauss Force Field and spell resistance talent give him more confidence against spell attacks.

”Are you sure it’s these two 3rd-level spells?” Adelle discreetly paused for a moment on the 3-star Adventurer’s Badge in front of Gauss, and reconfirmed.

Her implication was clear; he’s not yet a level 5 caster. Choosing two 3rd-level spells so readily means they won’t be useful soon; it would be more feasible to choose one 2nd Ring and one 3rd Ring as a transition.

”Is it not allowed to choose two 3rd-level spells?” Gauss scratched his head.

”Not exactly,” Adelle shook her head.

This reward itself carries a nurturing aspect, and since Gauss excelled in completing the task, the Adventurer’s Guild doesn’t care about these minor advantages.

”That’s good,” Gauss breathed a sigh of relief.

Then he looked at the other reward list.

Besides selecting two skills, everyone had 100 points, which needed to be spent in this redemption.

Next to other rewards, the corresponding exchange reward amount was listed.

For instance, a mount, a well-trained level 2 Gryphon mount, needs 80 points, excluding later purchases of Gryphon-specific equipment, and feeding Gryphons is also a significant expense.

Gryphons are more expensive than Gauss imagined.

He really couldn’t afford them.

No wonder he seldom saw Gryphon mounts outside.

Currently, he’s only seen the badge of Abelhard in Gray Rock Town and a few knights from the provincial capital arriving in Gray Rock Town during New Year with Gryphon mounts.

Either backed by a local adventurer guild leader or tied to rich noble defensive forces.

Ordinary adventurers simply can’t afford them.

Gauss temporarily abandoned the thought of becoming a noble Griffin Knight.

Someday he’ll have the chance.

He continued to linger on the list.

”Eh?”

He suddenly spotted a special magic item, his eyes lighting up unexpectedly.

The list actually included Magic Clay for redemption!

Magic Clay dropped after the death of the level 3 Elite Demon Crimson Freeze Monster.

Normally, Crimson Freeze Monsters are level 2, with stronger powers meaning often higher quality materials produced.

points for 300 pounds (approximately 136 kilograms) of clay.

Barely enough to form the size of two goblins or one relatively large goblin.

Though it looks small in quantity, higher-quality materials mean its power will become stronger.

If a level 3 clay creature could be manufactured, imagine how troublesome it would be from the enemy’s perspective.

As it’s something without pain, fearless of death, as long as magic power is supplemented, it can revive again, normal level 4 and even level 5 demons don’t want to encounter them.

It’s a pity there isn’t much.

But this hundred and some kilograms require multiple Crimson Freeze Monsters to produce.

It’s vital to know that not all demons can produce corresponding quality magic materials.

Gauss silently checked it off the list.
