I Am Not A Goblin Slayer

Chapter 356: Chapter 231: Just a Passerby

”Hey? You’re back so early today?”

Passing by Gauss’ room, Aaliyah peeked inside as she noticed the door was ajar, and seeing him still in his room at noon, she was somewhat surprised.

”Yeah. Today there’s a bit of a special circumstance, so I didn’t take on any commissions.” Gauss put down his book and looked toward the doorway.

According to his daily routine, after submitting the previous day’s commission in the morning, he would immediately take on a suitable task to save time.

However, today he was a bit concerned with what the Guild’s Advanced Councilor said, so he didn’t search the board for commissions.

”Oh?” Aaliyah’s expression became more serious upon hearing this.

As Gauss’ old teammate, she knows his temperament too well.

These past few days, if not slaying goblins, he was on his way to slay goblins, never having a moment of leisure.

Or he was finding a clearing to practice magic.

Like today, sitting honestly in his room reading a book, it truly was an unusual rest for him.

He would usually read during travel, utilizing the free time on a carriage or on a bird’s back.

”That’s quite a coincidence. I mastered the new spell ’Demon Fire’ today.” Aaliyah seemed to be in a good mood, with a bright smile.

But if you count the time, you’d instantly know why she’s happy.

This girl has no pretense; her mood is written all over her face.

In just a few days, from acquiring ’Demon Fire’ to mastering it, for her, it was a speed far exceeding normal, even beyond her own expectations.

So fast that she herself found it incredible.

”That’s a great pace, congratulations.” Gauss glanced at her radiant face and, a beat slower, understood her joy.

”Hehe...” Aaliyah scratched the back of her head after being praised by Gauss. ”Actually... I feel like I benefited from your presence, hehe...”

Aaliyah said with a smile, showing her white teeth.

”Do you remember what you said last time about the mysterious energy merging with me and Serdur?”

”I feel like my spell practice speed has significantly increased a lot.”

”I can’t quite explain the mechanism, but I can feel it has greatly aided my practice of Demon Fire.”

”Maybe your talent is starting to show,” Gauss nodded.

”My talent shouldn’t be that great.” Aaliyah shook her head sincerely.

”You never know, you have to believe in yourself more.” Gauss continued to add. ”You know, I’ve been reading. There’s a very authoritative book that says people’s potential sometimes only needs an opportunity or comes to a special period to naturally be triggered. ’Late blooming’ is just like this; perhaps you’re at that stage now.”

Aaliyah stared at Gauss, silent for a long moment.

”Hehe. Then I’ll take your good words.”

She actually wanted to say that she also resonated with Gauss’ words just now.

After all, her opportunity was last year when she encountered Gauss in the Jade Forest. After that, her adventurer career seemed to steer in a completely different direction.

But she thought those words sounded a bit cheesy, so she pondered for a moment, and those words stopped at her lips.

”So, what special situation happened today?” She couldn’t help but be curious about Gauss’ earlier answer.

Gauss pointed to the door.

He gestured for Aaliyah to close it.

He kept the door open not just for ventilation but also to be the first to see returning teammates.

After all, his unusual stay in the room today was to discuss the morning’s commission with Aaliyah.

”So mysterious?” Aaliyah shooed her pets back to her own room before closing the door and found a chair to sit down.

”The Guild gave me an undisclosed commission this morning, with high risk and high reward. It involves subduing a group of goblins from the ’Black Tooth’ tribe. I temporarily replied to them with a decision to consider first, then wanted to discuss this with you and Serdur...” Gauss used the Communication Technique to inform Aaliyah of the morning’s events.

The caution was due to the Guild’s councilor specifically advising not to disclose commission content.

However, this was the extent of what he could do, which should be enough.

If someone really wanted to ’eavesdrop.’

They would first need to break this Trick and coincidentally focus on his movements at this particular time, able to avoid his Detection and discovery, meeting all the above conditions, only then could they possibly know about the commission information he spoke of.

But a character like that, their information channels would surely be more well-informed than most adventurers. Such seemingly ’secret’ information might not really be news to them.

Once Aaliyah finished listening to the information, she momentarily fell into deep thought.

Even though she habitually handed over the majority of team decisions to Gauss.

But it didn’t mean she wouldn’t contemplate it in her mind.

Though the probability is small, if Gauss showed signs of irrationality, she must step forward to point out the issues.

”Black Tooth Tribe...”

She wasn’t unfamiliar with this term.

Any adventurer with a slight understanding of the history of that Demon war would have heard of the five major goblin tribes.

Imagine millions of goblins surging into human territory like an ocean, how terrifying the scene would be, just thinking about it is chilling.

It’s said that even now, in some remote and rarely visited mountain ranges within the Human Kingdom’s heartland, offspring of those goblins from a hundred years ago still exist.
