Hogwarts: I Am an Exemplary Wizard

Chapter 851: Chapter 719: Newt and the Snake Woman’s Affairs (Part 2)

Regarding that name they mentioned, Kael had no impression at all, and it seemed not to be an important person.

”Oh, it’s Galadia, the Defence Against the Dark Arts professor, an old colleague of mine.” Dumbledore said from the side, ”He’s about to retire, and Riddle probably wanted to take over his position around that time.”

”But you refused him,” Kael said.

”Yes.” Dumbledore said, ”I persuaded Armando to reject his application to stay on, even though at that time many professors, including Galadia, believed Riddle was capable of taking on the role of Defence Against the Dark Arts professor.”

Dumbledore’s expression was very calm.

He was sure that Riddle’s goal wasn’t to just become a professor at the school but had other intentions, which is why he rejected the application twice.

”So is he now trying to verify this news with Professor Slughorn?” Kael asked.

”No.” Dumbledore shook his head and said, ”He is showing his abilities to Professor Slughorn; sometimes gathering information is also a form of capability.”

Things were just as Dumbledore said.

Slughorn looked a bit surprised, ”Where do you get your information, kid, you know more than most professors.”

Riddle smiled but said nothing.

”You little rascal, always knowing things you shouldn’t and cleverly pleasing important people...” Slughorn seemed to want to scold Riddle, but his tone sounded more like teasing, ”By the way, thanks for the pineapple, you guessed right, it’s my favorite...”

A burst of laughter erupted around them.

But just at this moment, they were suddenly surrounded by thick white fog, blocking Kael’s view.

”This memory has been tampered with!” Kael blurted out.

This fog in the memory was like a mosaic, added later, clearly someone didn’t want them to hear or see something.

The white fog covered everything, and Kael only heard a high, unnaturally pitched voice saying, ”...You’ll make mistakes, kid, remember my words.”

He twitched the corner of his mouth and asked, ”Whose memory is this?”

”Professor Slughorn’s,” Dumbledore said.

”So...” Kael turned to look at Dumbledore, ”Is Professor Slughorn not very good at things other than Magic Potion, this fake voice is too crude.”

That high-pitched voice was entirely different from the natural speaking tone from before, too deliberate, obviously trying to cover up something.

This feeling was like in a Quidditch match, someone’s broomstick suddenly turning into a Fire Dragon, hard not to notice.

”Yes, he indeed wasn’t very good at Memory Charms at this time.” Dumbledore said, ”But later, he remedied this shortcoming.

”As for the reason, keep watching and you’ll find out, it should be soon.”

After Dumbledore finished speaking, the white fog in front of Kael also dissipated.

By this time, Slughorn had finished eating the pineapple preserves, and the golden little clock on his desk had jumped from nine-thirty to eleven.

It was already curfew time, everyone else had left the office, leaving only Riddle lingering behind.

After everyone left, he said, ”Sir, I have something I’d like to ask you...”

”Then ask quickly, child.” Slughorn urged.

”Sir, I want to ask if you know about... Soul Artifacts.”

Once again, the thick fog appeared in the office, followed by another excessively fake voice.

”I know nothing about Soul Artifacts, even if I did, I wouldn’t tell you, leave immediately, never let me hear you mention this again!”

But by now, Kael had already guessed the purpose of why Dumbledore let him see this memory.

The next second, the two left the memory.

”Professor,” Kael said, looking at the Pensieve in front of him, ”do you think Riddle learned the secret of Soul Artifacts at that time?”

”Undeniably, Professor Slughorn certainly told him some secrets, otherwise he wouldn’t have been ashamed enough to tamper with his own memory.”

Dumbledore said softly, ”That’s also his weakness, he always finds it hard to refuse those children he values, and Tom was once his most promising student, for a long time he believed Tom could achieve great things.”

”He was right, wasn’t he,” Kael said, ”In some ways, Riddle indeed achieved something.”

”But it obviously wasn’t what Professor Slughorn wanted to see, which is why he wanted to hide the mistakes he made in the past.” Dumbledore took out the memory from the Pensieve and returned it to the bottle.

”His method is clumsy, but that’s also good news.” Dumbledore continued, ”It shows he couldn’t bring himself to completely erase these memories, but chose to cover them up.”

”I hope you can help find it out.”

”Ah? Me?” Kael blinked, not really wanting to agree.

”Just as I said earlier.” Dumbledore gave him a glance, ”Professor Slughorn finds it hard to refuse those children he values.

”And the reason he’s back at Hogwarts is because of you and Harry, so it’s most fitting for you to do this task.”

”Harry?” Kael looked around.

”He’s not here, I still haven’t decided how to explain this to him yet, after all, he’s different from you, I need to explain a lot in advance.”

Dumbledore looked at Kael, seemingly waiting for him to say something.
