”Really?” Adis snarled, adjusting the gun’s angle downward a few degrees, then pulled the trigger again.

The flash of fire illuminated the faces of several people, and with the previous bullet as a reference, Adis accurately shot the Great Sect Leader Valian between the eyebrows.

”I forgot to tell you, this firearm fires two rounds, the latest model.”

Adis’ mouth slightly curved upward, thinking he had succeeded so easily. But at that moment, his expression froze on his face.

A piercing sound echoed in the vast room.

A large number of white rats poured out from Valian’s body, from the collar, sleeves, eyes, and various other parts.

Rats, countless rats.

The chattering, piercing noise made everyone’s head spin.

Valian’s figure vanished from the spot, and those rats that suddenly appeared also suddenly leaped at the people nearby.

An elder holding a Blue Book and looking dazed was almost instantly overwhelmed by the sudden swarm of rats, constantly gnawing at his flesh.

”Rats!”

”Why are there rats!”

An elder with a broken leg, holding a crutch, had a face full of panic. He didn’t care about Adis at all but ran backward without looking back.

The door they entered was behind where Valian had been standing, but it was already submerged by countless rats, making it impossible to pass through.

However, he knew this room had two doors, one specifically for escape, known only to the elders in case they were trapped in this enclosed room.

The number of rats increased rapidly with the continuous devouring of flesh, and they were extremely aggressive. The two or three people who had been standing by Valian were all drowned in rats.

The other two elders knelt directly on the ground, continuously pleading for forgiveness from the rats, seemingly believing that they had angered the Divine Spirit.

”I repent for our arrogant actions. We shouldn’t have done such things, please forgive us, Black God, please calm your anger.”

But such repentance did not seem to appease the Divine Spirit. These horrifying swarms of rats probably couldn’t understand what they were saying, still pounced, engulfing them and tearing at their flesh.

In the blink of an eye, those pure white rats turned blood-red, dyed by the fresh blood. They seemed to relish wrapping themselves in the blood.

More striking were their pairs of bright crimson eyes, which, in such a dim environment, were clearly visible with countless scarlet little eyes.

”This is all your fault!” A relatively young elder drew a rapier from his waist and lunged at Adis, blaming everything on Adis. If not for Adis, they wouldn’t have ended up in this situation.

Indeed, that was probably the case.

Even now, Adis was still in a bewildered state, not understanding why the Great Sect Leader Valian of the Black Rope Sect turned into a swarm of rats after being shot once.

This was too bizarre.

Was he not human to begin with?

Seeing the elder lunging at him, Adis didn’t think twice and parried with a backhand, deflecting the opponent’s weapon, then casually slicing the elder’s neck.

This elder didn’t possess much combat ability, perhaps not even as much as an ordinary adult. They were too accustomed to comfort, making it extremely easy for Adis to deal with him.

He pushed the opponent to the ground, and the swarming rats pounced on the elder’s corpse.

”How many days have they been starving!” He couldn’t help but curse, turning to run back; the rats followed, but their numbers weren’t that large yet. Once they finished devouring those corpses, surely they would overwhelm the room.

At this moment, the elder with a broken leg was fumbling with something by the wall.

”What are you doing?” Adis ran over and asked.

The elder with the broken leg looked up at him and said, ”There’s a mechanism here that can open a hidden door leading outside. Help me find it quickly, or we’ll all die here.”

He only knew there was a mechanism here but had never used it, so he didn’t know the exact location of the mechanism.

He seemed very flustered, his hands trembling uncontrollably, constantly fumbling along the wall. A rat jumped onto his back, taking a large bite. He flung it to the ground and then shouted at Adis:

”Find the mechanism quickly, or you’ll die here too.”

Clearly.

This elder’s loyalty to the Black Rope Sect wasn’t that strong, even after Adis had killed their Great Sect Leader, his priority was survival.

Adis shook off a white rat from his hand, leaving a clearly visible wound behind, then pointed at a spot on the wall and asked:

”Is the hidden door here?”

The elder glanced at it, shook his head, and said: ”A bit more to the left, the mechanism is near the ground in this area, pressing down hard should open it.”

”A bit to the left...” Adis squinted, observing the wall, not immediately searching for the mechanism, but turned his head and looked at the elder with the broken leg: ”Do you remember me, Elder Wims? I once came to beg for medicine.”

The elder with the broken leg lifted his head to look at him, angrily said: ”Don’t know, there are plenty of people begging for medicine, how could I remember, aren’t you from the All Beings Sect? Why would you need to beg for medicine.”

”This is not the time to discuss this, find the mechanism... damn rat, damn Valian, with no regard for our lives.”

Adis stared at him, a cold smile appearing on his face:

”I remember kneeling before you, but you didn’t even glance at me. That was when I realized, in your eyes, we weren’t much different from beasts. Maybe that’s always been the case, just that I didn’t see it.”

It was snowing then, he stood all night at the church door because his son was near death and needed medicine for survival.

He even donated all his wealth but still didn’t get even a single dose!

Until morning, he waited for this elder to pass by and enter the church, still kneeling, praying, but the elder didn’t even look at him, only smiled and said:

”What right do you have.”

Then.

Adis knew, with his status, he couldn’t get medicine here, and when he returned, his son was near death.

”No need to find it, there’s no way out now!” Adis showed a ferocious expression, kicking Wims, who was searching for the mechanism.

”What are you doing! Are you crazy!” Wims roared, bouncing back from the ground, avoiding Adis’ attack:

”You’ve killed Valian already, what more do you want to do!”
