Global Game: I Have Portable Store

The superiority of a player lies in the fact that they do not truly experience death. They can dictate the fate of NPCs, steer the direction of events, and even control this world.

But when they lose all this, they are no different from NPCs.

”What do you mean I’ll die?” Lu Mengyao quickly asked, her eyes quivering slightly under the brim of her black hat, realizing something was amiss.

Su Changxing looked at the approaching attendants not far away, and said in a low voice:

”It’s just as it sounds. But I’m only guessing. If you don’t believe it, you can try it yourself.”

Lu Mengyao suddenly showed a face full of astonishment and said, ”I can’t exit the game, what’s going on! Is this really not game lore?”

Su Changxing turned his head to look at this naive girl, remembering Shen Jinxuan, and said:

”It could be, or it might not be. But as long as you leave this place, you should be fine... When playing this game, you’d better be prepared to die.”

Though he still couldn’t kill a player, those more powerful Extraordinaries surely could kill players using some special means, more direct than such rituals.

On the other hand, this game should also have more restrictions on those powerful Extraordinaries.

Lu Mengyao sensed the unusual calmness of Su Changxing, blinked, and said: ”Do you know how to get out? Shall I follow you?”

Su Changxing said nothing, indicating tacit approval, and also wanted to observe what changes might occur to Lu Mengyao. This was crucial. Perhaps he could figure out what Po Lai really wanted to do.

Several attendants walked up head-on, and the leader of them saw them and said politely:

”Both guests, the manor is currently on lockdown, please don’t roam freely.”

Su Changxing nodded and said, ”Alright, we’ll head back immediately. We don’t want to cause trouble for you. I’m really sorry, it’s mainly because she insisted on coming out for a walk... Women are such a hassle.”

”...” Lu Mengyao.

The attendant smiled and said, ”It’s okay, as long as you go back now.”

Su Changxing led Lu Mengyao back, bypassing the attendants, and continued walking towards the west side, approaching the rear hill, using part of the domain to sense the positions of the attendants for easy avoidance.

Upon reaching the west side of the manor, several attendants saw the two of them and were about to say something, but a flying bullet pierced through their foreheads.

The entire process was utterly silent, without any commotion, creating a contrasting sense of disarray.

Su Changxing put away the Silent Spear and, seeing no one around, tossed the bodies into the Pocket Galaxy.

”You’re so strong!

Lu Mengyao gaped at Su Changxing’s series of skilled movements and teased: ”You actually pretended to be an Ordinary Person before. Could you possibly be the killer of Po Lai?”

Su Changxing shook his head and said: ”Not me. Although I tried, I didn’t succeed.”

”Did someone else kill Po Lai?” Lu Mengyao asked.

Su Changxing shook his head and said: ”It’s highly likely he’s not dead yet, still in this manor. All of this is his doing... I reckon other players have died here already.”

The two followed the lush forest path to the behind the mountain, where Su Changxing suddenly stopped and stared ahead.

Lu Mengyao tilted her head and asked: ”What’s wrong?”

Su Changxing frowned slightly: ”The space here has been partitioned off, creating a separate space, and it can’t be exited.”

Upon reaching here, he realized that the inside and outside of the manor had become two separate spaces, with a clear spatial dislocation. For those inside, the outside world was merely a mirage.

Lu Mengyao tentatively threw a stone past, and the stone hit the spatial dislocation, being sliced in half, with one part rebounding back and the other disappearing.

This is a grand gesture.

Using spatial dislocation to separate the entire manor from the outside, although such spatial dislocation generally doesn’t last too long.

”What should we do now?” Lu Mengyao habitually asked.

Su Changxing thought for a while and said: ”Stay here and watch when the spatial dislocation disappears. If there is no extra Power supporting it, it will vanish soon, then you inform me.”

Speaking, he handed Lu Mengyao a communication coin.

Lu Mengyao examined the coin in her hand and said: ”Okay... But how do you use this thing?”

”Hold it in your palm and flick it three times.”

······

Su Changxing returned to the previous tavern once again, everything still appearing calm. Due to the manor’s lockdown and no entry or exit, no one had noticed the surrounding space had already been disconnected.

He found Lina, who was maintaining the manor’s order, pointed at the shadow above the castle and said: ”Did none of you notice there’s something wrong with that thing?”

Lina glanced curiously at Su Changxing and said: ”Our team leader has gone to the castle to inquire, there should be results soon. But what are you doing out here, the manor seems to prohibit roaming around.”

Obviously, she hadn’t realized the seriousness of the situation, or maybe subconsciously she had already been hinted that there’s no big issue.

Su Changxing raised his brows again, confirming: ”Is there really no problem? I just saw someone die on the street, and their body was dragged into the castle by the attendants.”

This is certainly not something he made up. He happened to see someone who seemed to be a player die in the castle while he was on the mountain.

”Someone died?”

Lina looked puzzled and asked, ”How do you know?”

Su Changxing, with a hint of being frightened and unsettled, said seriously:

”I got lost just now and wandered over there, just happened to see... Luckily, they didn’t notice me. Can you help me get out of here? It’s too dangerous.”

Lina thought for a moment and said, ”Getting out might not be possible, at least not until tomorrow...”

While they were talking, a man with a black coat, light yellow hair, slim figure, and a rather good-looking face approached.

”Captain, how’s the situation?” Lina asked as she saw him.

The man, with a warm smile, said:

”There shouldn’t be any problem. It’s just some funeral ceremony accident; they said it could be resolved soon, so let’s not worry too much.”

It was obvious he was lying.

If Su Changxing didn’t know some of the facts, even he wouldn’t be able to tell he was lying.

Lina breathed a visible sigh of relief when she heard this and introduced to Su Changxing:

”This is our captain, Chris, a very capable person and also from a civilian background.”

Many in the Imperial Police are descendants of the nobility, joining to build their reputations.

”And this is?” Chris looked at Su Changxing, displaying a friendly expression, without a hint of the haughtiness expected of an Imperial Police captain.

Without waiting for Lina to speak, Su Changxing immediately stepped forward and shook hands enthusiastically, saying: ”I’ve heard so much about you. I’m Lina’s dear friend; she often mentions you.”

Dear friend?

Lina raised her eyebrows, remembering she’d only known Chris for a few days, finding him bolder than expected, but not offensively so.

She guessed it might be because Chris’s appearance was not tiring, as looks often played an important role.

Chris looked at this ordinary person before him, his smile deepening, and said:

”So, you have a good relationship with Lina. She’s an excellent police officer.”

His eyes twitched slightly, and this man in front of him gave him a strange feeling, ordinary yet extraordinary, reminding him of his former self, leading to a surge of disgust.

He detested his past self, hated those ordinary people, who were ordinary yet ignorant, no different from animals.

Su Changxing shifted the conversation and said, ”Captain Chris, I just saw someone die near the castle, killed by a servant.”

At this, Chris’s expression changed slightly, and he said, ”Is that so? I’ll take a look in a moment... Could you have been mistaken? The estate’s servants are strictly trained and won’t act on their own, at most subdue someone.”

Lina nodded and said, ”That’s indeed the case.”

She also found the information Su Changxing provided somewhat abrupt.

Su Changxing shrugged slightly, seemingly indifferent, and said, ”Ha, maybe I was mistaken, given the distance... If there’s nothing else, I’ll head off. You guys seem busy.”

He sensed the scent of conspiracy.

This man named Chris had major issues, and even more so, Lina was still in the dark. She seemed smart yet knew nothing, perhaps trusting this captain too much.

Chris watched Su Changxing’s back, smiled, and said, ”Quite an interesting ordinary person.”

Lina glanced at Chris and thought for a moment, saying:

”He actually has the potential to become an Extraordinary, but he prefers being a farm owner.”

Chris didn’t dwell on the topic, instead saying, ”Let’s grab something to eat first. There’s a lead on the assassination of Bo Lai. It might be an inside job.”

Lina paused in silence, saying, ”I already ate.”

When messing around, her mouth never stopped, with wine, tea, biscuits, cheese slices, and bread... Even more so, the food made at this estate was too delicious.

Chris surely knew Lina had been slacking off earlier and didn’t mind, smiling as he said, ”Well, I’ll grab something to eat first, then let’s head to the castle later. I suspect the Duke’s butler might be problematic.”

Lina showed a surprised expression, turning her head to ask, ”The butler is problematic?”

Chris nodded, speaking in a low voice, ”Yes, his words are inconsistent, as if hiding something.”

Lina leaned against the flowerbed in deep thought for a moment, always feeling something was wrong but unable to pinpoint exactly what, as things grew extraordinarily complex.

If the butler had issues, why seal the estate? Wouldn’t claiming the killer escaped make more sense?
