Chapter 513: Chapter 97: An Easy Task

”Huh?”

Weiluo stood frozen in place with the sack, watching as Su Changxing vanished into the darkness. Immediately after, a crowd appeared on the road, rushing toward him.

”······”

Realizing the danger, he turned around and ran, but the crowd relentlessly pursued him.

It was only then that he realized the clown mask on his face; these people had mistaken him for that Joker.

He clearly wasn’t the one who killed that person; he was just a petty thief.

”Listen to me, I wasn’t the one who killed anybody, I was just passing by!”

Weiluo shouted as he fled, his form flickering in and out of the shadows. He didn’t dare reveal his presence.

If someone locked onto him, he’d lose all chances of escape.

”Still dare to argue? Catch him and let me see who he really is,” shouted a burly man dressed in a Priest’s Robe, swinging an Iron Hammer, his entire body glowing brightly.

Weiluo was on the verge of tears; all he did was steal something that didn’t even seem valuable, yet he was receiving such unwanted attention, and he didn’t even have the item on him. It was too difficult.

······

”Quite a skill you have there.”

Su Changxing watched from afar as Weiluo actually ran through the woods and escaped in the end.

His escape skills were undoubtedly top-notch, truly fitting for a thief. He wondered how Weiluo got caught by those two players before.

It was getting close to dawn.

Some employees were already starting their work at the slaughterhouse, needing to butcher and distribute the freshest meat to various places.

Su Changxing looked sideways at the energetic pigs in the pen, a peculiar expression on his face. From reading Klein’s diary, he learned that Klein fed these pigs a lot of human meat as a way to dispose of bodies.

After being chopped up and fed to the pigs, not even bone fragments were left.

Humans eat pigs, pigs eat humans······

Anyway, Su Changxing decided that he would definitely not eat pork outside for the foreseeable future, as it seemed all the restaurants he could go to received their pork from this slaughterhouse.

”Boss, yesterday someone came by to help us deliver pork, do you think they were a fraud? We’ve already prepared for the delivery.”

A white woman named Isha jogged over and said.

She was arguably the most diligent among the employees, coming earliest and leaving the latest, always dedicated to her work.

Su Changxing shook his head and said, ”I hired them.”

Isha said in confusion, ”Boss, isn’t that a waste of money? Xiaohai was already ready to make the delivery yesterday.”

Su Changxing thought for a moment and said, ”There’s another reason for this, you don’t need to worry about it, just focus on your work.”

Isha nodded slightly and said, ”Oh, okay.”

She didn’t say much more because she didn’t want to upset Klein.

Klein held significant authority on the farm, which was one of the reasons they hadn’t been discovered.

Su Changxing even felt that someone might have noticed something strange but said nothing, because these employees also needed to make a living out of this.

It’s not that easy for ordinary people to live peacefully in this era.

······

”Hey, I got a hidden quest—do you want to lend a hand? I’ll split 20% of the reward with you two when it’s completed.”

Player Bai Qianyu said as he walked forward, a look of irrepressible pride on his face.

One of the female players said in surprise, ”Second brother, you got a hidden quest? Is it really a hidden quest?”

Bai Tianyu nodded affirmatively, with a serious expression:

”I’ll send you the quest information, and you’ll understand. But I suspect that the quest is not so simple, so I need you two to watch my back······at least make sure I don’t die. If I die, the quest will fail.”

As a relatively seasoned player, he had discerned a critical point in the quest: death equals failure. In other words, there was a high likelihood of him dying during this mission.

All three of them were above Level 10 and Tier Eight players, but their professions had different focuses and could complement each other.

”Delivering pork? What a strange quest, and it’s purple? But the difficulty is low anyway.” Another player dressed in a Priest’s Robe remarked as he looked at the information sent by Bai Qianyu.

The quest seemed unusual at first glance, very different from their previous ones. Even if it wasn’t a hidden quest, it was definitely something special.

Thus, the three of them cautiously embarked on the mission to deliver pork, one keeping watch and two escorting, taking extreme precautions, as if they were transporting some valuable Mysterious Item.

The strangest part was that they encountered no trouble at all, and no one bothered them; they effortlessly reached Bailan Restaurant and successfully made the delivery.

Yet the quest still didn’t show as complete, as if something else needed to be done.

”Still not complete? Just as I thought, this quest isn’t that simple.” Bai Qianyu said with certainty, brushing his hand over the white feather on his head.

Then they made their way back to Chaixi Town, remaining just as vigilant as before, even changing their outfits and putting on masks.

······

”Hmm, why are you wearing masks?”

Su Changxing stood at the farm’s entrance, looking puzzled as he asked.

Bai Qianyu laughed and said, ”The sun’s quite strong today, protecting our skin.”

Su Changxing assumed a knowing look and said, ”Ah, I see, but isn’t it overcast today?”

”······”

Bai Qianyu continued to laugh, ”Haha, just being cautious.”

At that moment, his heart was pounding with anxiety because the quest wasn’t finished yet, even after they had returned to the farm.

So what were the quest completion conditions?

Su Changxing looked at the invoice they had brought back, pondering for a while before saying slowly, ”Hmm, you did well. I’ll give you your payment now.”

With that, he handed Bai Qianyu a prepared yellow bag.

At this point, the quest was finally marked as complete.

”Co·····Completed?” Bai Qianyu looked incredulous, feeling as though the quest was only halfway done, yet it came to an abrupt end.

Wasn’t this too easy?

The three players exchanged glances, each with a peculiar expression.

”This is one of my treasured items, something that should be useful for detectives like you who often run into trouble,” Su Changxing said with a hint of mystery and a smile.

Bai Qianyu quickly nodded and said, ”Thank you for your kindness, Mr. Klein······ but we have other things to do, so we’ll take our leave now.”

With that, he and his companions left, soon opening the bag and looking astonished at its contents.

”This is·····cough syrup!”

The player in the Priest Robe said in shock, noting how the item had a production date, something entirely out of place in this world.

[Self-heating Syrup (Dingguan, Upper Rank): Add hot water and drink the syrup to rapidly restore a large amount of health and stamina.]

Bai Qianyu thought for a moment and said:

”Hmm, I reckon this is just the designer’s sense of humor, but it does work well; it can speed up healing······akin to a slow-acting Recovery Potion, with quite a potent effect.”

Recovery Potions are also considered High-tier Mysterious Items, though they are extremely rare, with a few Recovery Potions leaking out from the Church.

Generally speaking, the stronger one’s physical body, the less effective restorative items are. This makes such auxiliary recovery items more practical.
