Beast Taming: I Can Add Points

Ten minutes later, Su Zhi was sitting in a large, spacious room.

In front of him, to his left, and to his right were long tables. Four solemn-faced examiners sat behind each one.

Hall Master Yan sat to the left of center at the middle table, his expression just as blank.

Yang Shuyue sat at the end of the left table, giving her junior a playful look, as if asking him what he thought.

Surrounded by big shots, Su Zhi quietly folded his hands. Cai De didn’t dare make a peep.

’Damn, the flag I raised this morning already came true.’

Yan Dingyi spoke up. ”Examinee, your entrance assessment for the team is about to begin. Are you clear on the specific procedures?”

Su Zhi nodded. ”I am.”

’Yan Dingyi explained the procedure to me himself. If I said I wasn’t clear, the old man would probably drag me out of here on the spot...’

Another old man spoke up immediately after. ”Good. The first round of the assessment will now begin. In this round, you will face an opponent of the same level. You must defeat the examiner’s Pet Beast to pass.”

As soon as he finished speaking, a large screen lit up, flashing with a dazzling array of symbols.

This was the ”question bank” for the entrance assessment, from which the examinee would randomly draw. It included 67 common Pet Beasts found in high school and 112 Grade-2 rare Pet Beasts.

The screen finally stopped on a water droplet, symbolizing the Water Attribute.

SWISH!

A bright white Beast Taming Light Array appeared, and from within it flew a long, slender Pet Beast shaped like a Sea Serpent.

It had four limbs, each tipped with sharp claws, and its cold, vertical pupils were a deep blue.

[Pet Beast: Azure Wave Claw

Attribute: Water Element

Race: Low Level Elite Race

Real-time Energy Value: 680]

It was currently the eighth week after the high school contract period, and the average Energy Value for high school students was between 450 and 600.

The assessment’s random selection, however, pulled from ranges like 300-500 and 500-700.

”Looks like the kid’s luck isn’t great. Drew a counter-attribute in the first round, and with such high Energy Value too.”

”Eh, this is all just a formality anyway. Who really expected him to pass the assessment...”

The examiners below began to whisper dismissively amongst themselves. Some shot playful glances at Yan Dingyi.

On Thursday afternoon, Yan Dingyi had suddenly sent a message: he intended to recruit a kid to the Alliance Youth Team.

Everyone present was a core leader of the Huai City Alliance. They were already busy enough on a normal basis, so they naturally weren’t happy about having their Saturday taken up.

But this kid, Su Zhi, had somehow pulled some strings to get an endorsement from Beast King Peng Kai, who had even gone on to praise him to high heaven.

Yan Dingyi had also sent over Su Zhi’s battle videos, guaranteeing that he was definitely a promising seedling.

At the time, they were in another meeting and extremely busy.

The old-timers didn’t have time to learn about Su Zhi. In the end, because he was jointly recommended by Yan Dingyi and Peng Kai, it was too awkward to refuse, so they had to approve it.

The time they could have been using to play mahjong was now being used for work. The senior council members were actually a bit disgruntled and couldn’t wait for Su Zhi to be eliminated.

The competition light turned from blue to green—the assessment began!

On the examination stage, torrents of water were already swirling around the Azure Wave Claw’s claws as it charged aggressively toward Yu Bao.

Azure Wave Claw’s Core Skill: Torrential Breakthrough Strike!

Most of the examiners weren’t paying attention to Su Zhi’s Pet Beast. They were slacking off in their own private group chats.

Then, a single ”Holy shit!” was heard. All the senior members who hadn’t been watching the stage looked over, and then froze—

Before the dumbfounded gaze of the Azure Wave Claw, Yu Bao dissolved into a gust of sand and flashed behind it.

The battle with Diya had sharpened Yu Bao’s combat instincts. Seizing the moment the Azure Wave Claw was stunned, Yu Bao turned into a gust of sand and attacked again!

”HISS!”

The Azure Wave Claw hurriedly used the torrents to retreat and create distance, wary of the Yu Dian Dog’s Rock-Breaking Teeth.

But Yu Bao feinted, charging forward a short distance before rapidly retreating, also creating distance.

Immediately after, sand and dust rapidly gathered—Furious Sand Blade activated, slamming viciously into the Azure Wave Claw!

”QAQ HIIISSS—”

The Azure Wave Claw was knocked out of the ring on the spot. It flopped around for a few seconds like a salted fish, then lay defeated in a state of utter confusion.

It had been beaten senseless without understanding a single one of the Skills used against it.

”Woof!”

”Mm, nice job.” Su Zhi clenched his fist. ”But don’t let your guard down. The real assessment starts now.”

”Woof!” (Got it!)

”Esteemed examiners, can we... perhaps begin the second round now?” Su Zhi blinked.

The old-timers’ expressions were priceless, a bit like that ”brain.exe has stopped working” meme.

Yan Dingyi craned his neck to look around. Seeing they were all stunned, he took a satisfied sip of his tea.

’A pity. I should have invited them to watch this over tea.’

”...” Su Zhi stood properly, hands folded.

’Maybe this is part of the assessment too? A test of my ability to handle awkward situations.’

’This is a ”just keep smiling” moment.’

”...We will now take a short intermission. The examinee may rest for a moment.”

Finally, the chief examiner sitting in the center spoke in as calm a voice as he could manage.

A seam slowly appeared in the minimalist white wall, revealing a conference room behind it.

All the examiners rose and followed the chief examiner into the conference room.

The door closed.

Su Zhi looked at Yu Bao, and they tilted their heads in sync, confused.

’Hall Master Yan said there wouldn’t be any breaks... to test our endurance in continuous combat, right?’

·

”Old Yan, what the hell kind of little monster did you recruit?”

Inside the conference room, the chief examiner could no longer contain his increasingly wild delight. ”And you call this ’a talented first-year high school kid’?”

”I sent you all his battle videos. It’s your own fault for underestimating student Xiaosu.”

Yan Dingyi chuckled while sipping his tea. ”Got put in your place, didn’t you?”

No one paid attention to Yan Dingyi’s gloating. Everyone was currently busy watching those two battle videos.

One was the match against Xiaoyue, and the other was the match against Diya in the Fengyun Arena.

Then, they fell into a new state of shock.

”Holy shit... what the fuck...”

”What is this? Why can’t I understand his Skills?”

”To be honest, my third Pet Beast might not even win against Diya’s, and I can’t believe he actually managed it.”

”The younger generation is truly something to be feared...”

”...”

Yang Shuyue was the only one who appeared relatively calm, but it wasn’t because she wasn’t shocked... it was just that it wasn’t proper for a girl to have ”Holy shit” as her go-to phrase.

She had thought Su Zhi would be a reasonably outstanding kid, and even if he didn’t pass the assessment, she had planned to recruit him as a reserve member.

She just never expected Su Zhi to be *this* strong...

”What’s the point of testing him? Just admit him without an exam,” an examiner said calmly, recovering from his shock.

”Agreed.”

”Have to agree.”

Everyone was surprisingly in agreement.

”But it’s not appropriate to let him know he’s been admitted early. We can’t have him getting complacent just because he has a bit of talent.”

Yan Dingyi propped his chin on his hand. ”How about this: Su Zhi can, of course, join the team early, but we still have to go through with the second round of the assessment.”

”Since he’s already been admitted, let’s put some pressure on him and see what his upper limit is... Xiaoyang, your primary Pet Beast is Quasi-Two-star, right?”

”That’s right.”

”Alright, then you go. Test Xiaosu’s limits.”

”Okay~”
