After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret

He also seemed to be waiting for someone. ”My name is Felix Finch. I’m also new here.”

”Mm.”

Mordecai Quinn replied coolly.

”Sorry I’m late. What a god-awful base. The inspection process isn’t user-friendly at all, seriously...”

Just then, a complaining voice came from the inspection entrance they had just passed through.

Elara Calder walked up to Felix Finch. It was already dark, so she didn’t notice Nina Jacobs and Mordecai Quinn standing to the side.

”Miss Calder, inspections are like this at every base. You must not have been out in a while. This is Commander Mordecai Quinn.”

Felix Finch said hurriedly.

Elara Calder’s expression stiffened slightly. In the darkness, she couldn’t see Mordecai Quinn’s face clearly, but she knew Felix Finch’s expression beside her was as dark as a thundercloud.

”My apologies. I’m just not used to taking my clothes off in front of others.”

Elara Calder also noticed Nina Jacobs standing next to Mordecai Quinn.

”My name is Elara Calder, from Riventon Base. And may I ask your name, miss?”

She suspected Nina Jacobs was Commander Quinn’s woman, but considering her own status, a hint of arrogance crept into her tone.

Seeing that Nina Jacobs had no intention of answering, Mordecai Quinn shielded her with his body.

”It’s getting late. You two should head into the base.”

The gate ahead was the final entrance to the base. Mordecai Quinn planned to wait here with Nina Jacobs for the others.

”In that case, Commander Quinn, we’ll see you tomorrow.”

Felix Finch pulled Elara Calder away.

Elara Calder grew even more displeased. Once they were out of earshot, she shook off Felix Finch’s hand.

”We’re here for a fair trade, not to grovel. I bet that woman is his mistress, the way he’s so protective of her.”

Felix Finch suppressed his anger and said,

”Miss Calder, you should watch what you say. We all have a mission this time. There’s no need for you to be so conspicuous.”

”I’ll complete the mission, of course. But we have Holy Water. Why are you so subservient? Meridia Base is just a small, unrated base. In the future, it’s not certain who will be begging whom.”

Elara Calder saw a few of their companions waiting ahead. After her cold retort, she ignored him completely.

Meanwhile, Nina Jacobs had waited long enough for Wayne Warner, Silas Crowley, Audrey Crowley, and the others to successfully pass through the base’s inspection.

”I didn’t expect you two to know each other.”

Lyra Thorne said with a surprised look on her face.

”Yes, Miss Jacobs saved my life.”

Mordecai Quinn didn’t hide it, stating it plainly.

He was also very curious about what Nina Jacobs had experienced since she left, and why she had now come to Meridia Base with people from the Crowley Clan.

”It was nothing. Commander Quinn has also helped me a great deal.”

’If it weren’t for Mordecai Quinn, I wouldn’t have found out about the Ziegler Family and the Mystic Sect.’

”Everyone, please follow me inside. It’s late, and I’ve already had arrangements made.”

Mordecai Quinn said with a smile.

He noticed that Wayne Warner was still with Nina Jacobs, but compared to last time, she now had a cat with her.

Once the cat was inside their quarters, he realized it was somewhat larger than a normal cat, with a more agile build.

”I’ve still kept the room for you two.”

Mordecai Quinn said, pointing in a direction upstairs.

He had arranged for Audrey Crowley and her group to stay in the building next door, while Nina Jacobs and Wayne Warner would still be staying in his residence.

Some food was already prepared on the dining table. Knowing Wayne Warner had a large appetite, he had deliberately prepared a more lavish spread.

The dinner for the group next door had also been set up.

”This is mutated boar meat. We gave it some special treatment. I think it tastes pretty good.”

Mordecai Quinn said to the two of them.

Meridia Base wasn’t far from Mornfell, so he often led parties out to hunt Mutated Animals.

Wayne Warner seemed very interested in the mutated boar meat. Next to it was a huge, roasted mutated wild chicken.

Nina Jacobs gave Lexy some of the mutated chicken, then asked, ”I just heard one of them mention Holy Water. What is Holy Water?”

The mutated boar meat was indeed well-prepared. She chatted casually with Mordecai Quinn as she ate, as if they were old friends catching up.

Mordecai Quinn’s expression turned serious.

”Holy Water is a new type of potion that appeared in the last month. It can cure all ailments except the zombie virus. Even if you suffer a grave injury, it can save your life.”

”The problem is, the research institution and personnel are completely unknown. I’ve sent people to investigate, but we don’t know the origin or source of this potion. Most of these dealers probably get it secondhand and then resell it at an exorbitant price.”

Mordecai Quinn noticed a slight change in Nina Jacobs’s expression.

”You know about Holy Water?” Mordecai Quinn asked.

”I don’t. You’re saying this Holy Water can save severely injured people? Do you know the approximate dosage?”

Nina Jacobs was reeling internally.

’What Mordecai Quinn is describing is clearly the system’s Healing Potion, but I’m absolutely certain I’ve never sold it directly.’

’Could someone have concentrated the Blood Stopping Spray to create Holy Water?’

’But that seems impossible.’

”The dosage isn’t large. One bottle is less than 100 milliliters.”

Mordecai Quinn replied.

Nina Jacobs began to think. ’If such a small amount can save a life, then I can basically rule out the Blood Stopping Spray.’

”Do you have any Holy Water here? I’d like to see it.”

Nina Jacobs said.

Mordecai Quinn shook his head. ”Holy Water is so precious it’s sold by the drop. I’ve only heard about it from a trusted friend. It’s generally only sold to large bases at an incredibly high price. No one comes to a small base like ours to sell it. The person who was just here claimed to have ten bottles, which makes me doubt if they’re real.”

After listening to his explanation, Nina Jacobs more or less understood.

Holy Water could indeed heal injuries and save lives, but its origin was unknown.

Each bottle of Holy Water could be exchanged for a massive amount of supplies, and only the upper echelons of large bases could afford to buy it.

After all, it was something that could save your life, so all the major bases had begun scrambling to acquire it.

Ten bottles of Holy Water was an astronomical sum to Mordecai Quinn.

’If the Holy Water isn’t my Healing Potion, then where on earth does it come from?’

’Besides, I never heard anything about Holy Water in my past life.’

’Of course, it could be that I simply never traveled far. Some things might have been happening all along, and I just wasn’t aware of them.’

At that moment, a thought popped into Nina Jacobs’s head: ’Maybe I’m not the only one in this world with a system.’

Seeing Nina Jacobs lost in thought, Mordecai Quinn didn’t interrupt. He just listened as she spoke again.

”I ran into the Zieglers in Keldorn. They said they were looking for Zachary Ziegler. Are the Zieglers still in Meridia Base?”

When she left Meridia Base before, the Zieglers should have still been at the base.

After she killed Zachary Ziegler on the road, she didn’t know how Mordecai Quinn had handled things upon his return.

Mordecai Quinn sneered. ”They did suspect me. But with so many eyes watching, my people never saw Zachary Ziegler at all. Later...”

It turned out that Mordecai Quinn had already expelled all the Zieglers from Meridia Base and banned them from ever returning.

After returning to her room, Nina Jacobs called up the system.

A message from the system appeared. ”In response to the host’s question about whether others possess this system, this system is unable to answer at this time.”

’As expected...’

Nina Jacobs collected her thoughts. ’If there really is a second person with a system, it might not actually be a bad thing.’

’Besides, it doesn’t affect my current situation.’

’I’ll just have to take it one step at a time.’

’At the very least, the fact that I have a system is something that absolutely no one can ever find out.’
