After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret

Back in Whittaker Town, it was Han Lewis who had ultimately pointed out to her exactly where the White Family was hiding their supplies.

With Han Lewis’s amnesia, no one else would know where those supplies went.

Besides, Han Lewis’s eyes were clear now, and he spoke as articulately as anyone else. He had clearly forgotten the unpleasant experience in Whittaker Town.

”So, does this mean I’m a Superpower User, too?”

Han Lewis asked in pleasant surprise after listening to Irwing’s explanation.

Immediately after, a whole box of crackers materialized in his hand.

Han Lewis laughed out loud in delight.

”There’s more? And more! I have this much food in my space?!”

Han Lewis began pulling out supplies nonstop.

At the same time, he could now see all the supplies inside his space.

Besides all sorts of miscellaneous snacks, there were also bags of grain, boxes of crackers, instant noodles, and self-heating hot pots.

”So what you all said was true. That means you saved me. Don’t you worry. In the future, as long as your big bro has a bite to eat, you will too! Hahaha!”

Irwing noticed that Han Lewis’s memory loss wasn’t total.

He still retained his personal memories from before the zombie virus outbreak, and he even knew about the period of global acid rain.

Nina Jacobs guessed that the vast majority of the supplies in Han Lewis’s space must have been from Wendell Lynch’s private stash.

The quantity wasn’t huge, but for Han Lewis, it was probably quite a lot.

”You traded your life for those supplies, so it’s up to you how to use them. But once we get to the base, you’ll have to rely on yourself to protect them.”

Nina Jacobs had no intention of taking Han Lewis’s supplies, but she was warning him to be mindful of his own safety.

Han Lewis nodded, only half understanding.

He looked at the others in the car, growing more and more curious about what had happened to him back in Whittaker Town.

”I don’t think you’d be very happy if you knew.”

Irwing gave Han Lewis a sympathetic glance.

Nina Jacobs was right; Han Lewis’s amnesia was a good thing.

Meanwhile, after learning the fate of Arcadia White and her mother, Godfrey Thatcher felt nothing but immense satisfaction.

That pair had harmed others only to bring about their own doom, and they had nearly turned him into a zombie.

He would never forget that near-death experience for the rest of his life.

”They got what they deserved. The two of them killed a lot of people before, but there was nothing anyone could do.”

Godfrey Thatcher said as he drove.

From what he knew, hundreds of people had been killed by them.

Nina Jacobs remained silent. She hadn’t personally killed Arcadia White and Julia Hughes, but she had killed Lincoln White and Chuck Willow.

After killing Lincoln White and Chuck Willow, the system’s ”Selfless Savior” title was triggered, rewarding her with several hundred bottles of ”Healing Potion.”

Speaking of Lincoln White, Nina Jacobs hadn’t forgotten the ”Divine Wood” she had taken from him.

She had already poured out the bloody water from the ”Divine Wood,” washed it several times with clean water, and was soaking it in fresh water again.

As for the thin Ancient Book, the ”Puppetry Technique” it recorded was not much different from what she already knew.

However, she did know that this piece of Divine Wood had been alive for over a thousand years.

The book mentioned that the Divine Wood had several offshoots, each capable of surviving independently. Nina Jacobs guessed that these offshoots had likely been taken by Arcadia White, Ambrose White, and Flynn White to create puppets.

The ”Puppetry Technique” didn’t involve any particularly difficult magic. One just had to soak the Divine Wood in the master’s fresh blood for seven days and seven nights, then cut off a piece and place it inside the puppet’s body.

Of course, the puppet’s mind had to be taken from it beforehand.

Ethan Chase also had some other knowledge about the ”Puppetry Technique.”

”I once heard an acquaintance of my master say that the Divine Wood of the ’Puppetry Technique’ is supposed to contain a special type of mycelium. After this mycelium enters a human body, it can quickly influence the puppet, achieving a state of master-servant coexistent control...”

Ethan Chase spoke to Nina Jacobs alone before they rested for the night.

He didn’t know that Nina Jacobs had already obtained the ”Divine Wood”; he just assumed that the legendary piece of ”Divine Wood,” passed down through the ages, had been destroyed along with Whittaker Town.

”It’s better that it was destroyed. It’s not a good thing, anyway.”

”Also, I have to thank you young people for these past few days.”

Ethan Chase said.

The bedsores on his body and the agonizing pain from his injuries that had tormented him every night were gradually healing.

Along the way, the young people would also proactively help him collect pieces of wood he spotted on the roadside.

In the eyes of a carpenter, all kinds of wood were treasures.

”You’re too kind, Chase. I believe I’ll be the one thanking you in the future.”

Nina Jacobs said.

Back when she rescued Ethan Chase from the cellar, the system’s ”Selfless Savior” title had been triggered, rewarding her with a whopping 1,100-plus bottles of ”Healing Potion.”

That was how she knew Ethan Chase would definitely be of great use to the base in the future.

Ethan Chase just thought Nina Jacobs was being polite, but it was rare for someone to think so highly of him, so he was quite happy.

The group rested in a small, clean building.

Nina Jacobs walked upstairs, feeling extremely relaxed.

The reason she felt so at ease was that this small building was her safe house.

The number of zombies in Keldorn was increasing, and with so few people in their group, their defenses were certainly inadequate. So, she had simply set up the safe house in advance.

”This place is remote. No one needs to stand guard tonight. Everyone get a good rest.”

Nina Jacobs said.

”Are you sure we don’t need a watch? I can take a shift.”

Irwing was still a little worried.

”No need. I’ll keep an eye on things.”

Nina Jacobs had already released four Little Zombie Rats around the house.

Only then did Irwing nod.

After returning to her room, Nina Jacobs took out the container holding the Divine Wood.

’Mycelium?’

She observed it closely and tried to nourish it with her Wood Element Superpower.

She had already decided that if this thing was still as sinister as before, she would burn it to a crisp.

However, as she nourished the Divine Wood—now cleaned and soaking in a shallow layer of fresh water—with her Wood Element Superpower, something seemed to sprout from it.

This discovery made Nina Jacobs think she was seeing things.

Her Wood Element Superpower was inherently linked to growth and control. As she continued to infuse it with that power, short, white tendrils actually began to appear faintly from the bottom of the Divine Wood.

’Are these... roots?’

Nina Jacobs still had plenty of Superpower Energy, so she continued to stimulate its growth until a full root system emerged from the bottom.

’I just don’t know what the use of continuing to grow it would be.’

Nina Jacobs decided to simply use her Wood Element Superpower to cut off a small piece of the Divine Wood.

There were no test subjects here, so she decided to go out and find a zombie to experiment on.

The quiet night soon became not so quiet.

After some difficulty, Nina Jacobs captured a lone, ordinary zombie. After trapping it with a Gold Chain, she shoved the piece of wood directly into its mouth.

She had tried to control zombies with her Wood Element Superpower using seeds before, but all her attempts had failed, probably because the zombies were too large.

Now, she quietly watched the changes in the zombie before her, trying to stimulate the piece of Divine Wood with her Wood Element Superpower.

Just as she was about to give up, the roaring gradually stopped.

Nina Jacobs immediately retracted the Gold Chain.

Just as she expected, the zombie didn’t attack her.

”Now, kill yourself.”

Only after speaking did Nina Jacobs realize the zombie couldn’t understand human speech.

After she mobilized her Wood Element Superpower, the zombie in front of her did indeed raise its sharp claws and abruptly gouge at its own forehead!

’It worked!’

Watching the black zombie blood splash everywhere, Nina Jacobs finally noticed she had used a large amount of Superpower Energy.

’Looks like I can only control a small number of zombies. Large-scale control is probably not possible yet.’

And... that made the piece of Divine Wood seem all the more important.

She tried to find the piece of Divine Wood inside the zombie’s corpse, only to discover that the wood had turned into a pile of mush...
