After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret

In her past life, the deep freeze hadn’t arrived suddenly. Although the temperature plummeted, the process still took several days.

It took about a week for the temperature to drop from highs of over sixty degrees Celsius to freezing.

After that, the temperature continued to drop drastically.

The apocalyptic freeze brought no rain or snow—just a pure, relentless drop in temperature.

Even when the sun shone brightly, people couldn’t feel any of its warmth.

The only small comfort in this bizarre weather was that solar power systems were unaffected...

Audrey Crowley was delighted that Nina Jacobs had agreed to travel with them.

”I think Tomorrow Base is a real gem of a location,

we’ve been seriously considering the feasibility of what Silas said. The Crowley Group and the Lucas Family... perhaps we really could relocate here.”

Audrey Crowley watched Nina Jacobs’s reaction as she spoke.

Just as Silas had predicted, Nina didn’t object. On the contrary, she stated her position generously:

”The gates of Tomorrow Base are always open to the Crowley Clan. Silas is my friend, and I hope the base and the Crowley Group can achieve mutual success.”

’So Audrey Crowley is someone who follows her heart. Silas must have repeatedly analyzed all the benefits of moving, but to little avail.’

’And yet, just because of some rumors about this place being a ”land of good fortune,” she completely changed her tune...’

A look of admiration appeared in Lyra Thorne’s eyes.

’For someone so young, her presence is second to none. And to agree without any conditions... that shows incredible foresight.’

”I’m glad you feel that way, Miss Jacobs,” Audrey added. ”However, the affairs of our Crowley and Lucas families are complex. We might also be entangled with an organization called the Mystic Sect. I wonder if you’ve heard of them?”

Nina’s eyes flickered. ’It seems Silas hasn’t told Audrey and the others anything about my dealings.’

So she nodded. ”I’ve heard a little. I had some dealings with the Ziegler Family of Wyrfield before. They were... interesting.”

”The Ziegler Family?

You’ve actually had dealings with them?”

Audrey Crowley was completely taken aback that Nina even knew about the Mystic Sect.

”Yes.”

Nina didn’t mention what happened in Whittaker Town. The fewer people who knew about that incident, the better.

”Since you already know, I won’t go into detail,” Audrey Crowley said, ”but suffice it to say, there’s no way the Crowley Clan and the Lucas Family can coexist peacefully with the Mystic Sect.”

Nina took the opportunity to say, ”I’m also very curious about the Mystic Sect’s ultimate goal. If I get the chance, I’ll visit the Crowley patriarch in Stenmore.”

Hearing Nina say this, Audrey Crowley was completely put at ease.

They set their departure for two days later.

Over the next two days, Nina briefed everyone and handed over her duties.

Ethan Chase was reluctant to see her go, but more than that, he was worried about her safety.

”You’ve found me a great helper. That kid, Zoraida, is incredibly talented, smart, and sensible.

It’s you I’m worried about. Be careful on the road.”

The traps around Tomorrow Base had been fully restored, and for the past few days, he had been researching wooden mechanism traps that would be best-suited for the base.

Zoraida had been a great help to him and was already learning the basics of woodworking.

”Don’t worry, Chase. I’ll be back often,” Nina said with a smile.

She wasn’t too worried. After all, she had the Teleportation Gate.

Of course, the person she was most worried about was Holly Morgan.

Although she’d had Holly Morgan absorb the Mystic Ice Core, and according to her teammate status in the system, Holly was close to advancing to the Intermediate rank.

But bringing Holly to City D Base, a place completely unfamiliar to her, didn’t seem wise.

Besides, Harlan had been taking excellent care of her ever since she returned.

She had Valerius Lucas temporarily promote Holly to vice-captain of a newly formed city defense force unit, with Hartley as the captain.

Hartley was more level-headed and was also a Spiritual Element Superpower User who had absorbed a Mystic Ice Core. With Holly, they were the brains and the brawn; they might become a good pair.

Of course, she had also reminded everyone that suddenly falling into a deep sleep was most likely a sign of a Superpower advancing.

”Will I get stronger after my Superpower advances?” Holly Morgan asked.

”Of course. But are you sure you want to join the base’s city defense force?” Nina asked.

Evander Langdon had joined a different Superpower team, but Holly Morgan apparently had no plans to follow him.

Joining the city defense force had been her own request.

”Yes. Evander wants to live for himself, and so do I. I want to get stronger, just like you.”

Holly Morgan stood with Nina Jacobs atop the city wall, turning to her and answering with deep earnestness.

When she had awakened on the verge of plunging into an abyss of hatred, it was Nina who had made her confront everything and helped her tear her way out.

To her, Nina was more than a savior; she was the courage to bravely face the world and break convention.

Nina beamed at her words. ”Good. I’m looking forward to it.”

Although Cordelia and the others were sad to see Nina and Silas leave, they knew they were going to see their families, so they could only exchange reluctant goodbyes for now.

”Don’t worry, man. I’ll definitely be back,” Silas Crowley said to a teary-eyed Tobin.

”Okay.”

Tobin said nothing more. They had all been working so closely together lately, and he was truly sad to see two of them suddenly leave.

Before leaving Tomorrow Base, Nina made one last trip to Crestfall.

Distance wasn’t a factor for the Puppetry Technique, so even after she left Keldorn, the Puppet Zombie could remain in Crestfall to continue killing zombies.

However, from her recent observations, she suspected the technique’s stability was related to the piece of Divine Wood inside the Puppet Zombie.

The Divine Wood could absorb her Wood Element Superpower, taking in any amount she injected. She had come this time to infuse the Divine Wood with her power, hoping to make the Puppetry Technique more durable.

Only after pouring all of her internal Superpower into the Divine Wood within the Puppet Zombie did she issue it a detailed set of routine commands.

This time, she instructed the Puppet Zombie to rest every three hours and to flee if it encountered a Mutated Zombie it couldn’t defeat.

This was to ensure the Puppet Zombie would last as long as possible...

In an open field near Tomorrow Base, Wayne Warner followed behind Nina Jacobs, carrying a cat carrier.

Lexy sat obediently inside the carrier.

Ahead of them were several brand-new helicopters.

This wasn’t Nina’s first time riding a helicopter in the apocalypse, but the ones Audrey Crowley’s group had brought were clearly far more advanced.

The helicopters came equipped with a detection system that provided a clear view of the area for several kilometers in every direction. The fuselage was made of blast-proof steel, but not at the expense of interior comfort.

She planned to take Lexy with her on this trip away from Tomorrow Base.

After all, while Lexy was just a cat, its appetite had grown enormous under her care. She doubted anyone at Tomorrow Base could keep it fed if it stayed behind...

”Our drones have already scouted the path ahead; it’s clear for the time being. We’ll have drones constantly scanning the area in front and around us during the flight, so there’s no need for you to be too concerned, Miss Jacobs.

We will make everyone’s safety our top priority.”

Lyra Thorne rode in the same helicopter as Nina Jacobs and Wayne Warner. The pilot was none other than the programmer from before, Julian Thorne.

”Understood.” Nina Jacobs nodded.

In truth, she wasn’t worried. She had already awakened her Wind Element Superpower. Even if something unexpected happened, she was confident she could protect both Wayne Warner and herself.

But unless it was a last resort, she had no intention of revealing her Wind Element Superpower.

The helicopter lifted off quickly, and the people seeing them off below gradually shrank into tiny black dots on the ground.

A gust of wind swept by, and on the ground, Cordelia felt a sudden chill on her sweaty back.
