After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret

”If you don’t let him go, he’s going to die!”

Irwing shouted.

Han Lewis was looking weaker and weaker.

Holly Morgan also raised her Wood Grain Blade, looking like she might charge forward at any moment.

”Don’t move! If I die, we all die together!

The car is broken now, none of us can leave,

so how about this: you let me go, and I’ll lead you to the supplies in Whittaker Town.

There are tons of supplies here. Just listen to me and kill the rest of them...”

Wendell Lynch’s words came to a sudden halt. He stared in disbelief at the Diamond Sand Spike piercing his chest.

”Not necessary.”

This was the last thing Nina Jacobs said to him.

Immediately after, Holly Morgan swung her Wood Grain Blade and lopped off Wendell Lynch’s head in a single strike.

Seeing Wendell Lynch die on the spot, Irwing rushed to support Han Lewis.

But she found her hands covered in his blood.

”Don’t worry about me... Go, just go...”

Han Lewis said weakly.

”We have to get you back for treatment first. You can’t go on like this.”

Irwing didn’t understand why Han Lewis was in such a hurry.

”He... he’s going to blow up all of Whittaker Town.

It’s... it’s going to explode soon.”

Han Lewis’s speech was still slurred, but everyone understood him.

Irwing froze. She suddenly remembered something and said,

”I heard Lincoln White and General Hughes talk about this. If a large group of outsiders invaded Whittaker Town, the Whites would detonate explosive charges after evacuating. It was to protect the White Family’s secrets forever. Can that really be true?”

After hearing this, Nina Jacobs had Irwing place Han Lewis inside the car. She then asked,

”Chase, how much longer to fix this Wooden Wheel Car?”

”Not long. A few minutes. I just need to remove a wooden plank.”

Ethan Chase hadn’t expected to be useful so quickly.

He was even more surprised that Nina Jacobs seemed to have every tool imaginable in her backpack.

Meanwhile, Irwing was busy treating Han Lewis, but he had already fallen unconscious.

Nina Jacobs gave Han Lewis some water to drink.

[Host’s action will save one human in 0 days. ”Selfless Savior” title triggered. Reward: one bottle of Healing Potion.]

’Looks like Han Lewis won’t be dying after all.’

Soon, the Wooden Wheel Car began to move slowly once again.

Gradually, it picked up speed.

Less than ten minutes later, a series of explosions echoed from Whittaker Town behind them.

”So it was true... Looks like the others won’t make it out alive either.”

Irwing said, stunned.

Only that morning, the other survivors had been calculating supply distributions and planning to find the supplies hidden by the White Family.

”Master, Ethan must now take his leave. I will never forget your teachings.”

Ethan Chase murmured, gazing at the back of the Wooden Wheel Car.

A huge shockwave from the explosion rushed toward them from behind, but it was immediately blocked by a sand shield.

Everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

”I can’t believe we were so lucky this time. It’s all thanks to you two, Nina Jacobs and Holly Morgan, for saving me.

It’s just a shame about those guards who had just woken up. They were probably innocent, right?”

Irwing said.

When those men had gone mad with bloodlust, it was Holly Morgan who protected her; otherwise, she would have died countless times over.

After hearing this, Ethan Chase turned his wooden wheelchair around and said,

”Not a single one of them was innocent. They were the ones who first massacred the survivors of Whittaker Town.

It was only later that bastard Lincoln White turned them into... that, in batches.”

He had been locked up with those Puppet Guards all night, so he knew they were the same people who had slaughtered the town before.

Irwing was stunned into silence for a long time.

’There really wasn’t a single normal person in Whittaker Town.’

Seeing that Holly Morgan had been quiet the whole time, she was the first to break the silence, asking,

”Holly, what do you want to do after we get out of here?”

Holly Morgan seemed to take a moment to process before answering, ”Kill Anselm Hughes.”

Irwing jumped in shock.

”How can you kill him by yourself? He’s an Intermediate Superpower User.

Besides, he has a lot of people at Lornwood Base.”

’It’s almost impossible.’

”Then I’ll kill them all.”

Holly Morgan said.

”You young lady, could it be you were subjected to the Puppetry Technique?”

Ethan Chase couldn’t help but ask.

”Are there any side effects from being under the Puppetry Technique?”

Nina Jacobs asked.

The Healing Potion could indeed break the Puppetry Technique, but both Han Lewis and Holly Morgan seemed to have different side effects after waking up.

Ethan Chase shook his head.

”I’m not entirely sure either. I only heard from my master that the Puppetry Technique requires a reinforcement ritual every six months. If too much time passes without one, the puppet will gradually stop obeying commands.

Most people who have been subjected to the Puppetry Technique spend the rest of their lives living in fear, or they become bloodthirsty and strange.

After all, a key part of the Puppetry Technique is exploiting a person’s instinct for fear to completely destroy their mind.”

He had noticed earlier that something seemed off about Holly Morgan; her expression became particularly excited at the sight of blood.

Looking at the silent Holly Morgan, Nina Jacobs just smiled.

”I think Holly Morgan is just fine the way she is now.”

’At least she’s conquered her fear and knows how to protect herself and her friends.’

Irwing had been listening with growing concern, but after hearing what Nina Jacobs said, she thought it might actually be true.

Holly Morgan didn’t speak, seeming to wait for Nina to continue.

”There’s another base in Keldorn called Tomorrow Base. I’m going to take you there.

Also, Anselm Hughes’s next target is Tomorrow Base.”

Nina Jacobs explained briefly.

”Wait, Tomorrow Base? Is that a place with a lot of living people?”

Ethan Chase asked.

”You brought me out of there for this Tomorrow Base?”

He immediately recalled what Nina Jacobs had said before.

Nina Jacobs nodded. ”That’s right. Keldorn is short on energy resources. The Woodworking Skill will definitely be useful.”

Yesterday, she had stored all the supplies from the two small mountains into her system’s inventory, but there was a pitifully small amount of gasoline and fuel.

This showed that Keldorn was inherently lacking in these kinds of resources.

The fact that the Wooden Wheel Car could run like this, and that the wooden puppets could move without a power source, led her to believe this could be a major solution to Keldorn’s energy shortage.

”It’s just a shame about my legs...

Sigh. I wonder if they’ll be willing to trust me.”

Ethan Chase was suddenly lacking confidence. After all, he had spent almost his entire life inside Whittaker Town.

”Of course they’ll trust you.”

Nina Jacobs said with a smile.

This trip to Whittaker Town had filled her storage space to the brim.

It was all thanks to the Gold in the small mountains. Later, the small amount of Gold jewelry in the other mountain had triggered her ”Doomsday Gold Digger” title a few more times.

Otherwise, she definitely wouldn’t have been able to fit all the supplies.

She believed that the supplies from Whittaker Town alone would be enough to last Tomorrow Base for several years.

The next step was to return to Tomorrow Base, find a way to exchange these supplies for Crystal Cores, and in turn, trade those for System Experience.

In her past life, she had only managed to upgrade her system to the Sixth Level before she died.

But now, she already had a Level 5 System.

’I wonder what other good things the system will give me if I keep upgrading it.’

It was already afternoon when the group left Whittaker Town.

By the time the Wooden Wheel Car came to a stop, the sky had already grown dark.

”Let’s find a place to rest for the night. We’ll set out again first thing in the morning.”

Nina Jacobs said.

ROAR!

Several Mutated Zombies appeared in the darkness at once, startling Ethan Chase.

But Holly Morgan had already rushed forward excitedly.

”Zombies... have zombies become this powerful?”

Ethan Chase asked in shock.
