After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret

A small Wind Dragon Vortex materialized in her palm.

It merged with the Fire Dragon Roll in her other hand, and the power of their combination instantly doubled.

Because she was already an Intermediate Superpower User, her Wind Element Superpower was at an Intermediate level from the moment it awakened.

She could also control the Fire Dragon Roll to envelop the Wind Dragon Vortex, so that even outsiders wouldn’t be able to tell she was using two different Superpowers.

[Host has used the first and fifth Superpowers in conjunction for the first time. The ”Superpower Fusion” title has been triggered. Reward: ”Superpower Energy Stone”!]

’It’s been a while since I’ve gotten a new title.’

Nina Jacobs had already accumulated several ”Superpower Energy Stones,” but she had rarely used them since becoming an Intermediate Superpower User.

She also had ”First Superpower Cards” and ”Second Superpower Cards.”

At the moment, she had 52 ”First Superpower Cards” and 7 ”Second Superpower Cards.”

Nina Jacobs tapped on the ”Second Superpower Card.”

She’d had the idea to awaken a second Superpower for Wayne Warner for a while now, but she’d been constantly on the move and had to put it on hold.

After selecting Wayne Warner, Nina Jacobs chose the Thunder Element Superpower.

’A Strength Element Superpower is good for close-quarters combat, while a Thunder Element Superpower is suited for ranged attacks.’

’Besides, that Thunder Element Superpower User named Redmayne Spencer, back in the underground warehouse at Lornwood Base, had used his power to break an electronic lock, which seemed quite useful.’

After confirming her selection, Nina Jacobs opened the door and walked out.

”Thanks for all your hard work.”

Nina Jacobs took a few cold drinks, two roast chickens, and some snacks like cold noodles and grilled tofu out of her storage space.

They had already eaten lunch, so this could be their afternoon snack.

”Mhm.”

Seeing the food and drinks, Wayne Warner immediately came and sat down.

”Once we’re done here, we’ll head back to City D Base.”

Nina Jacobs paused after she said that.

’City D Base is too far from Keldorn. If we leave this time, we might not be able to return until after the global freeze... which is ten months away...’

’But it couldn’t be helped.’

Seeing Nina sigh, Wayne Warner, who was in the middle of feasting, handed her a glistening chicken leg, while Lexy snuggled up against her feet.

”It’s okay,” Nina said with a smile for the man and his cat. ”Let’s just focus on what’s in front of us.”

Worrying about the future wasn’t her style; besides, she had plenty to do in the present.

「Inside a spacious apartment in Tomorrow Base.」

After a bruised and swollen Silas Crowley finished recounting his recent ordeals, Audrey Crowley hugged him and burst into tears all over again.

”I never thought something like that could happen inside Lornwood Base,” Lyra Thorne said.

To think a major base would force everyone to go looking for water.

”So, back in Veridia Town, if we hadn’t run into Nina Jacobs, I would have died from my injuries,” Silas Crowley explained.

That was the main reason he was willing to stay with Nina Jacobs instead of returning to Stenmore.

”To be precise, she saved our lives, too,” said Audrey Crowley.

Audrey Crowley knew that while they had cleared a path for Nina’s group with the helicopter, dealing with those zombies wouldn’t have been a problem for them given their abilities.

Silas Crowley smiled. ”That’s just how she is. Show her an inch of respect, and she’ll give you a mile back.”

What was a simple gesture for Nina was a life-or-death rescue for others.

”So, you’re not planning on coming back with us?”

Audrey Crowley recognized that tone in his voice.

He’d been the same way when he refused to take over the family business, insisting on becoming an actor instead.

”Sis, Mr. Thorne... what I’m actually trying to say is...”

”What if... we moved the Crowley Group here?”

Silas Crowley said after a moment of thought.

”There’s no base over in Stenmore. The Crowley and Lucas Families are isolated, and we’ve already made enemies of those people from the Mystic Sect.”

”If they decide to make a move against us, with the number of people we have, we’ll be completely outmatched.”

”Look at you, getting bold now, are we? You want to uproot our ancestors’ entire legacy?”

”Besides our Crowley Clan, Stenmore also has Gemma’s Lucas Family.”

”Do you think that’s something we can just up and move?”

Audrey Crowley was furious when she heard this.

Lyra Thorne, however, fell into deep thought. He interrupted the siblings, saying,

”I think Silas has a point.”

”It’s a way of planning ahead. The Mystic Sect is truly a handful, and the Crowley and Lucas Families can’t compete with their sinister methods.”

”You think so, too?”

Audrey Crowley frowned.

”Sis, Lornwood Base is about to attack in the next few days.”

”Why don’t you take this opportunity to see what Tomorrow Base is made of? Then we can talk. How about it?”

Silas Crowley flashed a confident smile.

Audrey Crowley frowned. ”Even if that’s the case, do you think Grandfather will agree to such a reckless plan?”

”Besides, the two places are so far apart.”

”So what if it’s far? The Crowley Clan has *that thing*. It doesn’t matter how much stuff we have.”

Lyra Thorne cut Silas off with a sharp look.

”The whole reason those Mystic Sect people were hounding us before was to force us to hand that thing over,” Audrey Crowley warned.

”Our official story is that it was destroyed and the Crowley Clan no longer possesses any Exotic Treasure. So, don’t you ever say things like that again. Walls have ears.”

”I get it,” Silas said. ”I have work to do. I’ll find someone to show you two around the base.”

With a wave of his hand, Silas pushed the door open and left.

”That brat... His own sister comes all this way to find him, and what does he do?”

”He ’finds someone to show us around’?”

Audrey Crowley almost laughed out of sheer exasperation.

To think she had actually believed he was dead, even leading a group to slaughter zombies just to vent her rage.

”Silas has always been like this, even as a kid. He has his own way of thinking,”

”It’s not a bad thing,” Lyra Thorne said comfortingly.

Silas Crowley found Nina Jacobs soon after.

Nina was personally helping an older man who had lost a leg get settled.

The man was extremely gaunt, but he seemed to be in good spirits.

”And this is...?” Silas asked curiously.

”This is Chase. I brought him back from Whittaker Town with me.”

”Chase is a skilled carpenter.”

Nina introduced the two men.

It looked like Silas had already caught up with his sister.

”Whittaker Town? The White Family... You mean The Whites of the Snowlands?”

Silas blurted out.

Nina’s eyes gleamed. ’Perhaps,’ she thought, ’the Crowley Group is also one of the Ancient Martial Clans, just like I suspected.’

”Heh, you know quite a bit, young man,” Ethan Chase replied.

”But I’m not one of The Whites. I just picked up a little bit of carpentry, that’s all.”

Nina had arranged a clean suite for him and had also brought a child over.

The little girl was smart and hardworking, and she affectionately called him Grandpa Chase.

”Zoraida, I know you’re very capable. Would you be willing to stay with Grandpa Chase and learn more skills from him?”

Nina asked.

Ethan Chase was fiercely independent and refused to let others wait on him.

Still, there were always errands to run or small things that required a helping hand, which was why Nina had thought of the two sisters, Naomi and Zoraida.

Naomi Summers was still helping out in Harlan’s infirmary, swamped with work every day. Zoraida, on the other hand, was bored stiff. Ever since Nina had returned, the girl had been following her around like a little shadow.

If Zoraida stayed with Chase, she might even pick up some woodworking skills.

”Of course! I’m great at taking care of people, and I want to learn how to do crafts with Grandpa Chase.”

Back at Lornwood Base, Zoraida had always been timid, keeping her head bowed. But in just a few days, she had transformed, now able to lift her little face and laugh with confidence.

”Good. Then I’m entrusting this glorious and difficult mission to you.”

After speaking, Nina turned to Silas. ”Silas Crowley, come with me for a second.”
