My Youth Began With Him

“Anne Hathaway? Is that the actress of the White Queen in the movie Alice in Wonderland?”

“Yeah, isn’t she pretty?”

“It’s your preference, but I really don’t understand,” said Huo Mian while trying hard to not laugh.

“Fine, I don’t have the same preferences as you, country girl,” teased Su Yu as he waved his hands.

“Okay, it’s really a pleasure for a country girl like me to have lunch with you, Young Master Su. Ha… Have some braised pork.”

Huo Mian picked out the braised pork from her plate and put some on Su Yu’s plate.

Huo Mian didn’t like eating fatty meat, so usually when she ate, she would just put them in Qin Chu’s bowl, which had now become a habit. She didn’t think too much of it, but for Su Yu, it was a gesture that made him full of happiness.

Looking at the braised pork given to him by Huo Mian, for one second, Su Yu didn’t even want to touch it.

“Why are you frozen, don’t you also like fatty meat?”

“No, I like eating it.” Su Yu looked down and finished the piece of meat with a huge bite.

“Today is such a tiring day. I haven’t had urgent cases like today for a while. Focusing on surgery a hundred percent is way harder than working overtime for a week,” Huo Mian complained.

“There are so many doctors in your hospital, what are they doing? You are already the deputy director of the hospital, why do you still need to do this? I really don’t understand.”

Su Yu felt sorry for how much work Huo Mian had to do, so he was complaining.

“No, it’s not always the case. Today’s situation is special because no other doctor dared to take responsibility.” Afterward, Huo Mian briefly explained the whole thing to Su Yu.

Su Yu looked at Huo Mian with his eyes wide open.

“What? What’s with that look?”

“Why do you do things that other people don’t want to do? Are you really dumb?” Su Yu stared at her.

“Hahaha…” Su Yu’s ‘are you really dumb?’ made Huo Mian laugh so hard.

“You’re still laughing? Come on! Use your brain!” Su Yu was speechless.

“I, as the Deputy Director, have to try my best to save the patients’ lives. This is my responsibility. I can’t say that the reason I became a doctor is for healing the wounded and rescuing the dying. In fact, I’m not that ambitious anyway. But I can never stand to see a patient die in front of me. I will never let things like that happen. As for the rest, I really didn’t think too much about it.”

“What if the patient’s husband tried to beat you? You are one silly country girl…” Even Su Yu was worried after hearing this story.

Dealing with an unreasonable mom and son, what if they started bullying Huo Mian? After all, she was just a vulnerable girl.

“I’m not that weak okay? Even though I’m not like Ning and I don’t know any martial arts, I have some hard stuff with me. If someone makes me mad, I’ll just give them a shot. Besides, South Side is my turf. My colleagues won’t let me get bullied, so don’t overreact.”

“What the… I really think you are playing with your life with this job…” Su Yu wasn’t happy.

“Alright, let’s not talk about it. Do you want soup? I’ll go get one for you.”

“Nah, I’m full. Oh, by the way, the reason I came here today is to deliver something for you.”

“Deliver something? Where is it?”

“I left it in your office.”

“Huh… what is it?” Huo Mian was confused.

“Grandpa brought it back from Jing City. It’s said to be the most advanced remote-controlled robot. It can sing and dance, chat with you, play games, and even battle. It’s really interesting. Stuff from abroad is more advanced, after all. I heard that those robots were developed by a tech company and aren’t even on the market yet. When Grandpa went abroad to visit, they gave it to him. Grandpa thought this was interesting and just got two and asked me to bring them to Pudding and Little Bean.”

“Grandpa Su is so nice, please thank him for me!”

“He just loves the twins. Don’t worry about it.”

“Eh… Su Yu, can I talk to you about something? And… After you hear it, can you promise not to be mad?” Huo Mian said, a bit hesitant.

“You say it first. Let me listen to it before I decide if I want to be mad or not,” laughed Su Yu.
