Global Lords: I Have Information System

The M1 Pro and M1 Max are the first to bring system on a chip (SoC) architecture to professional systems. These chips feature fast unified memory, industry-leading performance, incredible power efficiency, and greater memory bandwidth and capacity. The M1 Pro offers up to 200GB/s of memory bandwidth and supports up to 32GB of unified memory. The M1 Max offers up to 400GB/s of memory bandwidth—double that of the M1 Pro, nearly six times that of the M1—and supports up to 64GB of unified memory. While the latest PC laptops top out at 16GB of graphics memory, having such massive memory capacity allows for graphics-intensive workflows previously unimaginable on laptops. The efficient architecture of the M1 Pro and M1 Max means they deliver the same level of performance whether the MacBook Pro is plugged in or using the battery. The M1 Pro and M1 Max also feature enhanced media engines with dedicated ProRes accelerators for professional video processing. The M1 Pro and M1 Max are the most powerful chips Apple has ever manufactured.

”The M1 changed our most popular systems with incredible performance, custom technologies, and industry-leading energy efficiency. Today, the M1 Pro and M1 Max bring system on a chip design to professional systems for the first time,” said Johny Srouji, Apple’s senior vice president of hardware technologies. ”With massive increases in CPU and GPU performance, up to six times the memory bandwidth, a new media engine with a ProRes accelerator, and other advanced technologies, the M1 Pro and M1 Max further elevate the performance of Apple chips, unlike any other notebook in the professional domain.”

M1 Pro: A New Level of Performance and Capability

The M1 Pro uses industry-leading 5-nanometer process technology and packs in 33.7 billion transistors, more than twice the quantity of the M1. The new 10-core CPU, including eight high-performance cores and two efficiency cores, is 70% faster than the M1, delivering incredible professional CPU performance. Compared to the latest 8-core PC laptop chips, the M1 Pro delivers up to 1.7 times the CPU performance at the same power level and achieves the peak performance of PC chips while using up to 70% less power. Even the most demanding tasks, like high-resolution photo editing, are handled with ease by the M1 Pro. The M1 Pro features up to a 16-core GPU, offering two times the speed of the M1 and seven times faster than the integrated graphics on the latest 8-core PC laptop chips. Compared to powerful discrete GPUs suitable for PC laptops, the M1 Pro provides higher performance while consuming up to 70% less power. The M1 Pro can be configured with up to 32GB of fast unified memory with up to 200GB/s of memory bandwidth, allowing creative professionals like 3D artists and game developers to do more than ever before.

The M1 Pro and M1 Max utilize up to 10-core CPUs, delivering 1.7 times the speed of the latest 8-core PC laptop chips at the same power level and achieving the peak performance capability of PC chips at 70% lower power.

M1 Max: The World’s Most Powerful Professional Notebook Chip

The M1 Max features the same powerful 10-core CPU as the M1 Pro and adds a massive 32-core GPU, offering four times the graphics performance of the M1. The M1 Max contains 57 billion transistors—70% more than the M1 Pro, and 3.5 times more than the M1— making the M1 Max the largest chip Apple has ever created. Further, the GPU performance matches that of high-end GPUs in compact professional PC laptops, while consuming up to 40% less power, and matches the performance of the highest-end GPUs in the largest PC laptops while using up to 100 watts less power. This means the new MacBook Pro generates less heat, the fans are quieter and run less frequently, and the battery life is impressive. The M1 Max revolutionizes graphics-intensive workflows, with up to 13 times faster rendering in Final Cut Pro compared to the previous generation 13-inch MacBook Pro. The M1 Max also offers higher bandwidth on-chip structures, doubling the memory interface of the M1 Pro, reaching up to 400GB/s, nearly six times the memory bandwidth of the M1. This allows the M1 Max to be configured with up to 64GB of fast unified memory. The M1 Max delivers unmatched performance, being the most powerful chip ever built for professional notebooks.

Charts show that the M1 Max and its up to 32-core GPU can deliver graphics performance comparable to high-end compact PC professional laptops, while consuming up to 40% less power.

Charts show that the M1 Max can deliver similar graphics performance to the largest PC laptops, with power consumption reduced by up to 100 watts.

The M1 Max features up to a 32-core GPU, delivering graphics performance comparable to high-end compact PC professional laptops, with power consumption reduced by up to 40%.

Compared to the highest-end discrete GPUs in the largest PC laptops, the M1 Max provides similar graphics performance, but with power consumption reduced by up to 100 watts.

Fast, Efficient Media Engine, Now with ProRes

The M1 Pro and M1 Max include an Apple-designed media engine that accelerates video processing while maximizing battery life. The M1 Pro also includes dedicated acceleration for the ProRes professional video codec, allowing for the playback of multiple high-quality 4K and 8K ProRes video streams with minimal power. The M1 Max goes further, offering video encoding that is twice as fast as the M1 Pro and featuring two ProRes accelerators. With the M1 Max, compared to the previous generation 16-inch MacBook Pro, the new MacBook Pro can transcode ProRes video in Compressor up to 10 times faster.

The M1 Pro and M1 Max add dedicated ProRes accelerators to their media engines, providing incredibly fast and energy-efficient video processing.

Advanced Technologies for Complete Pro Systems

The M1 Pro and M1 Max are loaded with advanced custom technologies, helping to push professional workflows to new levels: a 16-core Neural Engine for on-device machine learning acceleration and improved camera performance. A new display engine drives multiple external displays. Additional integrated Thunderbolt 4 controllers offer more I/O bandwidth. Apple’s custom image signal processor works with the Neural Engine to use computational video to enhance image quality, resulting in clearer video and more natural skin tones from the built-in camera. Top-tier security includes Apple’s latest Secure Enclave, hardware-verified secure boot, and runtime anti-exploitation technologies.
