Global Lords: I Have Information System

Over the course of the 15-year study, people who got 17% to 21% of their calories from added sugar had a 38% higher risk of dying from cardiovascular disease compared with those who consumed 8% of their calories as added sugar.

A 15-year study showed that for those whose calories consisted of 17%–21% from added sugar, their risk of dying from heart disease was nearly 40% higher than those whose calories contained 8% from added sugar.

Is there really milk in milk tea?

Although ”milk tea” and ”milk” differ by only one character in Chinese, in some milk teas the ”milk” is not actually milk, but is instead replaced by plant-based fat powder or creamer.

Research shows that tests on the protein in milk tea found the protein content to be low, while the trans fatty acid content was high.

In this regard, experts believe that the imbalance between protein and trans fatty acid indicators suggests that businesses may not be using ”genuine ingredients,” and that in terms of raw materials, milk is very likely being replaced by products such as creamer.

But what are trans fatty acids?

Artificial trans fats (or trans fatty acids) are created in an industrial process that adds hydrogen to liquid vegetable oils to make them more solid. The primary dietary source for trans fats in processed food is ”partially hydrogenated oils.”

Artificial trans fats (or trans fatty acids) are produced during industrial processing, where hydrogen is added to liquid vegetable oils to make them more solid. The main dietary source of trans fats in processed foods is ”partially hydrogenated oils.”

Trans fatty acids are commonly used in foods such as cakes, cookies, frozen pizzas, French fries, and popcorn.

The Chinese Dietary Guidelines recommend that daily intake of trans fatty acids should not exceed 2 grams. However, tests on milk tea samples found that the amount of trans fat contained in a single cup of milk tea already exceeds the amount that the human body can safely consume in three days.

The harm that trans fatty acids do to the human body is no less than that of sugar.

Trans fats raise your bad (LDL) cholesterol levels and lower your good (HDL) cholesterol levels. Eating trans fats increases your risk of developing heart disease and stroke. It’s also associated with a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

One cup of milk tea = 8 cans of Red Bull?!

Have you ever experienced being unable to fall asleep at night after drinking milk tea?

That’s because milk tea generally contains a large amount of caffeine, and the content exceeds the standard by several times.

In a certain test, experts tested 51 samples and found that the average caffeine content in the samples was as high as 270 mg/L, with the highest reaching 828 mg/L.

Studies show that the caffeine content of a medium-sized Americano is 108 mg, and the caffeine content in a can of Red Bull is 50 mg. By comparison, the caffeine content in some milk teas is frighteningly high: one cup of milk tea = 4 cups of coffee! = 8 cans of Red Bull!

Experts point out that caffeine is generally present in beverages such as coffee and strong tea, and that the single-dose intake for a healthy adult should not exceed 200 mg. Pregnant women and children should not consume caffeine, otherwise it may cause anxiety-like symptoms such as palpitations, tremors, and sleep disorders.

And the harm from excessive caffeine intake doesn’t stop there.

Caffeine stimulates the central nervous system, releases free fatty acids from adipose (fatty) tissue and affects the kidneys, increasing urination, which can lead to dehydration.

What is shocking is that most milk tea shops do not provide any warning that their milk tea contains caffeine.

After seeing all these research data, does the milk tea in your hand still smell so good?

While China’s fintech is booming, it has also brought new challenges to regulation. People’s Bank of China Governor Yi Gang recently stressed the need to establish appropriate firewalls to prevent financial risks from spreading across departments and industries. He called for severing improper connections between financial information and commercial information, and preventing the closed-loop effect of ”data—network effects—financial services” from creating monopolies.

China’s fintech has continuously developed and innovated, lowering the cost of financial services, improving the efficiency of financial services, and effectively supporting inclusive finance.

”Driven by large technology companies, China’s mobile payments have developed rapidly, and the penetration rate has now reached 86%.” Yi Gang recently stated at an international conference on supervising big tech companies organized by the Bank for International Settlements (BIS). He introduced that the fee rates for China’s mobile payments and online payments do not exceed 0.6%, and users can also enjoy customized financial products when receiving payments via electronic payment tools. In addition, empowered by digital technology, it is possible to realize full-process digitalization and online handling of credit approval and risk control, reducing reliance on collateral and better meeting small and micro enterprises’ financing Requirements for ”small amounts, high frequency, and urgency.”

However, in Yi Gang’s view, the continuous Development of fintech has also brought new challenges to regulation. Some platform companies conduct financial business without licenses or beyond their approved Range, providing financial services such as wealth management, credit, and insurance on the same platform, amplifying the possibility of financial risks spreading across products and Markets. Some platform companies’ payment businesses have violations, such as illegally investing customers’ dormant reserve funds into various financial assets. Some platform companies embed credit businesses such as ”Huabei” and ”Jiebei” into the payment chain, misleading consumers. Some platform companies use their monopoly position to engage in unfair competition, and there are cases of excessive collection and even abuse of consumer information, threatening personal privacy and information security.

”Finance, as a licensed industry, must operate with a license.” Yi Gang said that in order to meet these challenges, China has continuously made up for the ”shortcomings” in the regulatory system and has successively introduced measures to promote the standardized, healthy, and sustainable Development of the platform economy.

Yi Gang stated that in the next step, efforts will continue to strengthen sup
