Mafia Lord's Mute Sweetheart

Chapter 139: Chapter 139 Why should she keep holding onto him?

After chatting with Alessio, Daisy’s mood became much lighter.

She placed her phone on the bed and hugged her knees for a moment, thinking quietly.

Maybe he was right. There was no reason for her to continue this marriage anymore. Cedric loved Jessica. Everyone knew it. Even Cedric himself had admitted it countless times. Then why should she keep holding onto him?

A small smile appeared on her face.

If she divorced him, he would finally be able to marry the woman he truly loved. Jessica would probably be very happy too. They could finally be together without her standing in the way.

As for Grandpa James, Daisy felt a little guilty. He had always treated her so kindly and sincerely wished for her marriage to work. She didn’t want to disappoint him but she also didn’t want to keep lying to him. He deserved the truth.

She decided that after the divorce, she would tell Grandpa James everything honestly. Even if he became angry or disappointed, she would accept it. She owed him that much.

Thinking that way, the heavy feeling in her chest eased a little.

One and a half hours later, someone knocked on her bedroom door.

Daisy stood up and opened it.

A maid was standing outside with a tray in her hands. On it were freshly made sandwiches, sliced fruits, cookies, and a cup of hot tea. The aroma of warm bread and sweet fruit filled the air.

”Good afternoon, Ma’am,” the maid said politely with a smile.

Daisy looked at the tray in confusion before pointing at herself.

For me?

The maid nodded. ”Yes, Ma’am.”

Daisy blinked. She accepted the tray but still looked puzzled.

The maid noticed her expression and explained, ”Sir asked us to prepare this for you.”

Daisy frowned slightly. Sir...? Cedric?

Seeing Daisy’s confused face, the maid continued, ”Sir told the kitchen that your meals and snacks should be prepared on time from now on. He specifically told us to make sure you don’t miss any meals.”

Daisy stood there quietly, holding the tray.

She didn’t know how to react.

Just this morning, she had decided to divorce him. And now he was suddenly asking the staff to take care of her? It felt strange. Very strange.

”Is... is there anything else, Ma’am?” the maid asked carefully.

Daisy quickly shook her head and smiled politely before thanking her with a small bow.

After the maid left, Daisy closed the door and placed the tray on her study table. She stared at the food for a few seconds.

”...He’s acting weird.”

She picked up a small sandwich and took a bite. It tasted good.

Maybe he simply felt guilty after behaving rashly yesterday. That had to be it. There couldn’t be any other reason.

Thinking that, Daisy finished her snack.

After finishing her afternoon snack, Daisy felt surprisingly sleepy.

Maybe it was because she hadn’t slept properly the previous night, or perhaps her mind had finally relaxed after talking to Alessio.

She changed into comfortable clothes, pulled the blanket over herself, and soon drifted into a peaceful nap.

When she woke up, it was already evening. The sky outside her window had turned a soft shade of orange and pink and the room was filled with the warm glow of sunset.

She washed her face, tied her hair into a loose ponytail and quietly went downstairs for dinner.

The dining hall was almost empty. Only a few servants moved around silently.

She looked around instinctively.

Cedric wasn’t there.

She ate her dinner alone without saying a word. The food tasted good, but somehow the large dining table felt even emptier than usual.

One of the maids noticed her looking around and politely said, ”Sir hasn’t come home yet, Ma’am.”

Daisy simply nodded.

After dinner, she returned to her room.

The rest of the evening passed quietly. She organized her laboratory notes, read a book and occasionally glanced at the clock hanging on the wall.

Nine o’clock.

Then nine fifteen.

Her heart slowly became restless.

Cedric had told her to come to his room at ten. Should she really go? Maybe he had forgotten. Maybe he was still busy outside or perhaps he had changed his mind.

At nine-thirty, she was still sitting on the edge of her bed, absentmindedly playing with the corner of her sleeve.

Just then, her phone vibrated.

Buzz.

She quickly picked it up.

A new message appeared.

Cedric: Come to my room at 10.

Daisy stared at the screen for several long seconds.

She slowly bit her lower lip.

Her fingers tightened around the phone.

What does he want...?

The question echoed in her mind again. Yesterday he had been furious. This morning he had suddenly started caring whether she ate. Now he wanted to meet her alone in his room.

She looked at the clock again.

Ten minutes left.

When the clock finally struck ten, Daisy took a deep breath.

She stood up from her bed and nervously smoothed the wrinkles on her clothes. Her hands were slightly clammy and her heart beat a little faster than usual. She pressed her palm against her chest, trying to calm herself.

Calm down.

Whatever Cedric wanted to say, she would simply listen. She didn’t have to be afraid.

With that thought, she opened her bedroom door and walked into the hallway. The corridor was dimly lit, the soft glow of the wall sconces casting long shadows across the floor. His room was only a few steps away.

She stopped in front of the door and hesitated.

Should she knock?

Just as she raised her hand, she noticed the door wasn’t completely closed. It was slightly open, a thin sliver of light spilling out into the hallway.

Daisy blinked in surprise.

He left it open?

After waiting a few seconds and hearing no response, she gently pushed the door open.

The room was enormous.

Her eyes instinctively wandered around. Everything was decorated in black, white and shades of grey. The walls were a soft charcoal, the furniture dark wood and sleek metal. There were no unnecessary decorations or clutter. Just clean lines, expensive furniture and a calm atmosphere that somehow didn’t suit Cedric’s personality.

The room looked cold yet elegant.

A large king-sized bed stood against one wall, covered with perfectly arranged black-and-white bedding. The pillows were fluffed, the duvet smooth and unwrinkled. Across from it was an elegant work desk with a laptop, neatly stacked documents and several business magazines. A leather chair sat behind the desk, looking pristine and unused.

Even the bookshelf looked perfectly organized. Not a single thing seemed out of place. Every book was aligned, every surface dust-free. It looked more like a showroom than a bedroom.

Daisy walked inside slowly, looking around with quiet curiosity.
