The Female Lead Decides to Act Wickedly

”Is this person okay?” The male lead gave Ma Xinhua a knowing look.

Tears and shouts, the two of them were just thinking about whether to comfort the person with a few words, and now she’s washing her face, doing her hair, and putting on makeup?!

”Who knows! She’s always been the most capricious, whatever takes her fancy at the moment!”

Ma Xinhua pursed her lips and returned the male lead’s glance with one of disdain.

Speaking of which, Ma Xinhua, Han Dongmei, and Heh Yuntian were all classmates in middle school.

Ma Xinhua and Han Dongmei were even in the same class.

However, in this era, schools didn’t have any proper order at all; students were basically just idling away their time.

Ma Xinhua and Han Dongmei stayed in the same class for three years but weren’t particularly close.

At most, they would greet each other politely if they met outside.

Afterwards, the two of them went to the countryside together, arriving at the same Educated Youth Corps, and they still weren’t very close.

Firstly, Han Dongmei only had Heh Yuntian in her eyes and heart, and didn’t care about anyone else.

Secondly, Ma Xinhua and Han Dongmei had vastly different family backgrounds.

Ma Xinhua was just an ordinary worker’s child, with many siblings at home, and grandparents and parents who were seriously patriarchal.

Whereas Han Dongmei’s parents were both officials, and her family only had three children. Han Dongmei was the youngest and the most doted upon.

The two were from entirely different social classes, even if they lived under the same roof, they couldn’t really see eye to eye.

Ma Xinhua felt envy and jealousy towards Han Dongmei and had a deep disdain for her: with such a good background, and yet she insists on causing a scene!

Han Dongmei had the family love, promising future, and other good things that Ma Xinhua dreamt of, but she didn’t appreciate it, and for the sake of a man who didn’t even like her, she made herself a laughingstock!

Truly, truly... seeing Han Dongmei foolishly chasing after Heh Yuntian, Ma Xinhua, while gloating, still deeply envied her.

Sigh, even with Han Dongmei’s antics, her family still treated her as their treasured darling.

They sent a large amount of money, coupons, and all sorts of good things every month.

As for Ma Xinhua, her family not only didn’t send her anything, but they even eyed the little subsidy she got as an Educated Youth!

Every time she saw Han Dongmei’s almost ”stupid” happy smile, Ma Xinhua’s heart was gnawed at by some negative emotions.

Under such circumstances, it was really hard for her to be genuine friends with Han Dongmei.

Of course, Han Dongmei also looked down on a poor girl like her.

Three years of classmates and nearly two years as fellow Educated Youths, Ma Xinhua and Han Dongmei’s relationship was really not close.

”Eh? She’s coming out!”

Ma Xinhua was deep in thought when suddenly she heard the male lead’s voice, and was pulled behind the wall by him.

”What is she going to do this time?”

Ma Xinhua snapped out of it and continued to hide in the corner with the male lead to watch secretly.

They saw Han Dongmei, in contrast to her earlier confusion and helplessness, with her head held high and chest puffed out, striding towards the west side wing where the male Educated Youths were.

”Is she going to argue with Heh Yuntian again?” The male lead murmured curiously.

”Possibly! Let’s go and see!”

Ma Xinhua’s eyes gleamed with excitement as she pulled the male lead’s arm, and the two of them quietly followed Han Dongmei.

The onlookers inside and outside the courtyard had already dispersed. The Educated Youths either went back to their rooms or were busy in the hall or the kitchen, while the villagers trickled back home in small groups.

However, since not much time had elapsed, some who enjoyed a spectacle still loitered outside the Educated Youth Corps courtyard, watching from afar.

They thought, maybe it wasn’t over yet, and the two Educated Youths might argue again.

In an era without any entertainment, watching others quarrel and fight was indeed ordinary folks’ biggest pastime.

”Hey! Educated Youth Han really came out again!”

Someone perched on a tree branch, chewing a grass stalk, looked down and saw the scene in the courtyard, quickly shouting excitedly.

”What? Educated Youth Han came out again? Is she going to argue with Educated Youth Heh again?”

”Definitely! They argued for so long just now and didn’t resolve anything!”

”...Yeah, all that money, goods, and whatever, there’s still no conclusion!”

”Let’s go! Hurry and take another look! Tsk tsk, these city folks really have a lot of tricks, even their arguments are like one scene after another!”

The villagers who had just dispersed, upon hearing the news, gathered again, some climbed trees, some climbed walls, and some squeezed into the courtyard to watch...
