My Silly, Sweet Wife

”Buying medicine!” Ye Guichen looked around the Chinese medicine shop.

The pharmacy was quite large, with a counter for preparing prescriptions outside, and what seemed to be consultation rooms inside, from which patients occasionally exited.

The clerk, hearing this, immediately started to introduce, ”Sir, you have quite the eye. Our Yunji Hall is renowned in Yun City. Judging by your appearance, is this your first time here? We stock over three thousand types of Chinese medicine. Whatever you need, we can supply it the same day.”

While enthusiastically introducing the products, the clerk led Ye Guichen to the counter.

Ye Guichen nodded and asked, ”Do you have all kinds of medicine?”

”That’s right, what do you need?”

”Snake seeds, gentian powder, and boundless root,” Ye Guichen named three types of Chinese medicine.

Hearing this, the clerk’s mouth twitched, and he looked at Ye Guichen suspiciously, with a somewhat unfriendly tone, ”You sure?”

”Sure!” Ye Guichen nodded.

The clerk snorted, his attitude no longer as warm as before. ”Alright, wait here, I’ll get the pharmacist.”

With that, the clerk turned and went inside, soon returning with an elder.

The elder seemed to be in his sixties but walked with a steady step.

After coming out, the elder first looked Ye Guichen up and down, his tone cold rather than enthusiastic. ”Customer, what Chinese medicine do you want to buy?”

”Snake seeds, gentian powder, and boundless root,” Ye Guichen repeated.

”Ha ha, young man, are you here to make trouble?” Unexpectedly, after hearing the three names, the elder laughed aloud. ”I have practiced medicine for decades, knowing no less than five or six thousand kinds of Chinese herbs, but I have never heard of the three you mentioned. Tell me, who sent you here to stir up trouble?”

As the elder finished speaking, two more clerks came out from inside, standing behind Ye Guichen, ready to act if he said anything wrong.

Ye Guichen detected the aggression in their words but still shook his head, ”I just came to buy medicine. If you don’t have it, I’ll go ask elsewhere.”

With that, he turned to leave.

”Young man, since you’re here to make trouble, you can’t leave so easily!” The elder waved his hand, and the clerks directly blocked Ye Guichen’s way.

The clerk who had introduced the shop to Ye Guichen snorted coldly, ”You clearly don’t know what kind of place Yunji Hall is. Not anyone can just come and make trouble here. Moreover, this is our Mr. Su, the vice president of the Chinese Medicine Association. He has seen more kinds of Chinese medicine than you’ve had meals. How dare you make up a few names and come to buy medicine. What else could you be here for but trouble?”

”Exactly. Tell us, who sent you? If you don’t confess, don’t blame us for being rude.” Several clerks glared at Ye Guichen.

By now, many onlookers had gathered, drawn by the commotion.

”What’s happening?”

”Not sure, looks like that guy made up some medicine names to buy.”

”Made up names? What’s the joke? Doesn’t he know where he is? Mr. Su of Yunji Hall is a top figure in the Chinese Medicine Association. And he wants to stir up trouble here?”

”That guy is doomed, he’s picked the wrong place to mess with.”

The elder everyone was speaking about was indeed Mr. Su, named Su Tong. Not only was he a senior doctor at Yunji Hall, but he was also highly renowned. Many came here explicitly for his expertise.

Ye Guichen felt somewhat helpless.

”Sir, if you don’t know these herbs, just say so. Saying I’m here to make trouble? There’s no such logic, is there?”

”Stop talking nonsense!” The clerk, enraged, reached for Ye Guichen’s shoulder. ”Mr. Su is Yunji Hall’s golden signboard. If he says it doesn’t exist, it doesn’t exist. Seems like we need to teach you a lesson!”

As soon as the clerk’s hand landed on Ye Guichen’s shoulder, Ye Guichen gave a light shake. ”Didn’t expect there to be such unreasonable places in the world.”

The slight shake made the clerk feel a wave of numbness pass through his hand as if he was electrocuted.

Instinctively, the clerk pulled back, cursing under his breath, ”Damn, turns out he’s trained. Catch him!”

With a wave of his hand, the other clerks pounced forward.

Ye Guichen frowned, clearly annoyed.

Just for asking about some herbs they didn’t have, they accused him of causing trouble. How tyrannical.

”Get lost!” Ye Guichen wouldn’t stand for this. With two slaps, he sent the rushing clerks flying.

The crowd gasped, stepping back in fear.

Su Tong narrowed his eyes, ”Well, you seem to have come prepared. Boy, were you sent by that old bastard surnamed Mai?”

Su Tong strode forward, though his frame was somewhat thin, he exuded an intimidating presence.

Staring straight at Ye Guichen, it felt like he was trying to see through him.

Ye Guichen found it increasingly odd. ”Mr. Su, I respect you as an elder and don’t wish to fight. I don’t know the person you mentioned. I’m here simply to buy some medicine. If you don’t have it, just tell me. Why resort to violence and attempt to detain me?”

”What?” Su Tong, surprised, observed Ye Guichen’s unwavering expression. ”You’re really not here to make trouble?”

”Sir, if I were here to make trouble, based on you lot, I wouldn’t need to lift a finger to flatten this place.” Ye Guichen chuckled dismissively and turned to leave.
