Naruto: Becoming the Soul King

More than twenty days passed in a flash, and the holiday was coming to an end.

During these twenty-odd days,

Seiryū, Jiraiya, and Minato, master and disciples, worked on developing and refining the Rasengan whenever they had free time.

Yes, it was indeed the Rasengan.

After Kushina pondered for three days, she naturally didn’t choose the long and clunky name but instead went with the concise and meaningful name ”Rasengan.”

Aside from Minato, who thought the name lacked a certain flair, everyone else agreed it was a good choice.

So it was happily decided.

Now, the Rasengan was nearly perfected. The only thing missing was a systematic training method.

A Ninjutsu needs a complete training method, a comprehensive guide from beginning to end, and a clearly defined training process. Only after overcoming this final step can the Rasengan, a hand-seal-less Ninjutsu, be considered truly complete.

Thanks to Seiryū, the transmigrator, the development of the Rasengan had accelerated by at least two years compared to the original timeline... This was normal. Even three mediocre minds can outpace one genius, let alone two Kage-level powerhouses plus a transmigrator working together.

And among them, the two Kage-level powerhouses weren’t even the main force. The real driver behind it all was Seiryū.

With reverse engineering after already knowing the result, how could it not be fast... Did they really think a transmigrator and plagiarist was useless?

Thinking back on the past twenty-odd days and looking at the fully-formed and stable Rasengan in Minato’s hand, Jiraiya exhaled deeply and said, ”The progress has been really fast. Now, the only thing left is figuring out the most suitable training method.”

With just this last step, the Rasengan would be completely perfected.

Even he felt a strange sense of achievement at this moment. He had participated in developing this A-rank, hand-seal-less Ninjutsu!

Upon hearing this, Minato dispersed the Rasengan and nodded. ”I’ve been thinking about this over the past few days too, but I haven’t had any solid inspiration.”

Seiryū felt it was time for the person who understood the Rasengan best to speak. ”Sensei, Senpai... Actually, I already have a general idea...”

”...”

Jiraiya and Minato fell silent.

Again, it was happening again!

Every time Seiryū humbly said these words, it meant he already had a complete solution!

They had experienced this more than once in the past twenty-odd days. It was beyond question that Seiryū had contributed the most to the development of the Rasengan.

Other than being shocked by his talent, they really didn’t know what else to say... Jiraiya even felt a bit like a failed teacher. His mouth twitched slightly as he said, ”Tell us...”

Minato also looked over, waiting for him to continue.

”It’s like this...” Seiryū didn’t drag it out. He pulled out a water balloon, a rubber ball, and a regular balloon from his ninja tool pouch and began to explain the original Rasengan training process step by step. ”First this, then that, and then this...”

It was worth mentioning that this ninja tool pouch was a gift from Kurenai.

She had given it to thank Seiryū for not forgetting her, his cute junior. It had cost her quite a bit of her pocket money!

While explaining, Seiryū also demonstrated, bursting the water balloon, then the rubber ball, and finally forming the Rasengan within the regular balloon... Pop!

At last, Seiryū tapped the balloon with a finger, revealing a glowing Rasengan in his right palm. He smiled and said, ”See? That’s the process. I learned the Rasengan using this method!”

Naturally, he had already mastered the Rasengan.

After all, most of the past twenty days had been spent on researching and developing it. With his talent, it hadn’t taken long, possibly even faster than Minato.

What’s more, mastering the Rasengan had triggered a system mission reward, granting him a new Kidō...

Looking at the Rasengan in Seiryū’s palm, Jiraiya’s eyes widened. His voice trembled slightly. ”Y-you already learned it!?”

Minato was also stunned, then let out an awkward smile. ”As expected of you, Seiryū!”

”It’s nothing special.” Seiryū smiled, then his eyes gleamed with a meaningful look. ”Sensei, Senpai, actually... I’ve had some other ideas about the Rasengan...”

”The Rasengan is a shape transformation technique using chakra. That means it can be combined with nature transformation. Don’t you think its power would greatly increase if we added nature transformation?”

If he remembered correctly,

in the original story, Minato had already started to consider this. But before he could develop or complete it, he was sent to the Pure Land by the Nine-Tails’ claw...

”Hm?”

Seiryū’s words made both Jiraiya and Minato pause. Since they had only just finished perfecting the Rasengan, they hadn’t thought that far ahead... It was only after Seiryū’s reminder that they suddenly realized—

That’s right. The Rasengan is a hand-seal-less Ninjutsu and an application of chakra shape transformation. So naturally, nature transformation could be added too!

As elite shinobi, they were obviously well aware of this principle!

Minato thought it over for a moment and found it increasingly plausible. Still, he hesitated. ”In theory, yes. But it’s not going to be easy. The Rasengan is already difficult to stabilize. Adding nature transformation would make it even harder. It would probably turn into an S-rank Ninjutsu...”

Jiraiya also nodded. ”Minato is right. The difficulty would be on par with creating a brand new S-rank Ninjutsu. It might even take longer than developing the Rasengan itself...”

Seiryū: ”...”

You two are Konoha’s top-tier shinobi. Why are you so lacking in confidence?

Naruto’s Rasenshuriken only took about a month to go from concept to completion.

You guys are too weak!

Seiryū said, ”If it’s possible, then it’s worth trying. It’s just a matter of spending more time. Exploring this direction can’t be wrong. More attempts mean more progress.”

He paused, then added calmly, ”Also, aside from adding nature transformation, there are actually many other shape transformation possibilities for the Rasengan...”

”...”

Jiraiya and Minato fell silent once more.

More discoveries?

Just what kind of monster was this kid?

He had only been exposed to the Rasengan for less than a month, and he was already thinking about derivative development!?

Jiraiya felt his heart couldn’t take it anymore. His voice sounded a little forced. ”T-tell us...”

Minato also looked at him earnestly. ”Seiryū, what other ideas do you have? Share them so we can learn too!”

Looking at the glowing Rasengan in his hand, Seiryū curved his lips into a smile. ”The current Rasengan is only about the size of a fist. I was thinking, what if we increase the amount of chakra poured in to make it bigger?”

”A larger size would naturally mean greater power. I’ve even thought of a name for it... Great Ball Rasengan.”

After all, now that he was one of the developers of the Rasengan, he had a responsibility to see it through to the end.

So, Seiryū intended to replicate all the Rasengan variants from the original series that could be recreated, ahead of time.

Should he secretly master them and then show them off for a dramatic reveal?

No need for that.

Seiryū only knew the general principles behind some of the Rasengan variations. It would take time to research and recreate them.

And now, he had two free laborers. Why not make use of them?

After all, they were his Sensei and Senpai. If they learned it, it would be the same as him learning it.
