Naruto: Becoming the Soul King

He decided to come clean with Kushina after returning. He really didn’t want to experience the force of the ”Red Hot-Blooded Habanero’s” fist.

Hearing Seiryū’s question, Minato snapped back to reality and explained with a smile, ”It’s a ninjutsu that doesn’t require hand seals. I got the inspiration for this technique when I saw a Tailed Beast use a Tailed Beast Ball on the battlefield.”

Seiryū feigned sudden understanding. ”Ninjutsu without hand seals? So you don’t need to form seals at all? Like my Monster Strength Fist—I can use that without hand seals.”

Minato nodded with a smile. ”That’s right. This new technique can indeed be used without hand seals.”

”Let me demonstrate it for you, Seiryū. Step back a little. It’s still incomplete, so it might be a bit dangerous…”

After Seiryū moved back, Minato began the demonstration.

Buzz buzz buzz...

Minato grabbed his right wrist with his left hand, spreading the fingers of his right hand. As chakra gathered, a spinning chakra sphere began to form in his palm. The rotation stirred the air around it, but the sphere remained unstable. Its shape distorted, and the chakra started to lose control…

Bang!

Just as it was about to explode, Minato pressed it down to the ground. A spiraling crater formed where it landed, with wisps of white smoke rising from it. Looking at the damage left by the Rasengan, Seiryū pondered, Is this all it can do for now?

There was power, sure.

It was about on par with the incomplete Rasengan that Naruto had first formed in Seiryū’s memory.

But unlike Naruto, who only lacked the final step, Minato was developing it from scratch. By Naruto’s time, the Rasengan had already been fully developed, with a set training method.

Developing it alone from scratch was obviously much harder. Without the right approach, just forming the sphere itself could take a very long time...

Jiraiya shook his head. ”It still can’t take shape. It’s unstable. With your chakra control, Minato, that shouldn’t be the issue. What exactly is the problem?”

”It’s hard to control. Just keeping it rotating is already very difficult, and the power’s far from enough...” Minato shook his right hand.

It wouldn’t stabilize. Just maintaining the chakra rotation was hard, and the output wasn’t strong enough, far from the result he had envisioned.

Then, turning to Seiryū, Minato smiled. ”Seiryū, what do you think of the technique? Can you grasp its basic principle?”

”I’ve figured out a bit,” Seiryū nodded, slipping into his role as the Ninja World’s plagiarist. He spoke eloquently, ”Although I don’t really know what a Tailed Beast Ball is…”

”But this technique you developed Senpai, is based on using the tearing force generated by high-speed rotating chakra as an attack, right?”

”I never imagined chakra could be used like this. It’s really eye-opening!”

As he spoke, Seiryū even gave it a try.

Buzz buzz buzz...

Thanks to his excellent chakra control, a spinning chakra sphere quickly formed in his hand. But after just a second, it vanished with a pop.

Seiryū acted surprised. ”Hmm, it really is hard. It only lasted a second…”

In truth, he’d already tried it once earlier. But he hadn’t followed the original method to train properly. He had only scratched the surface and didn’t go deeper.

After all, he had so many things he wanted to do recently, and it was hard to keep up with everything...

However, watching the brief flash of the chakra sphere in Seiryū’s hand, Jiraiya and Minato both widened their eyes in astonishment.

Wait, what?

Seiryū just took one look, and already understood the principle? His first attempt already looked decent?

Do you have a Sharingan that lets you copy ninjutsu or something?

He hadn’t even fully developed the technique yet, and only he and his teacher knew its principle.

This was definitely Seiryū’s first time seeing it.

And yet, he understood the mechanics immediately and even tried replicating it. Even though it only lasted for a second, it was still a shock to Minato’s worldview.

”How is your brain even wired, kid?” Jiraiya was also stunned. This new disciple of his was no ordinary person.

In terms of personality, he was helpful and brave enough to stand up to a peeping tom, showing a strong sense of justice. In terms of talent, he had developed his own version of Monster Strength Fist.

And now, he had just grasped the concept of their not-yet-complete jutsu after seeing it once?

No, this wasn’t normal...

Seiryū waved it off. ”I’m just flesh and blood, maybe a little smarter than average.”

He continued, ”Senpai, could you explain the full principle of this jutsu? I think this technique would be really suitable for shinobi with large chakra reserves, and it’d be especially effective for speed-type shinobi.”

Minato nodded. ”You guessed right. This technique is tailor-made for shinobi with lots of chakra and for those who specialize in speed. The core principle isn’t too complex: rotation, compression…”

”So that’s it—high-speed rotation, compression, condensation, focus…” Seiryū nodded frequently as he absorbed the explanation of the Rasengan’s mechanics.

Finally, he didn’t forget to offer a compliment. ”As expected of Senpai. To be able to develop something like this... If it’s completed, this will definitely be an extremely powerful jutsu.”

Minato chuckled. ”After all, it’s modeled after the Tailed Beast Ball. If it ended up being weak, that’d be pretty disappointing.”

Seiryū replied honestly, ”That’s true. I don’t really know what a Tailed Beast Ball is, but it definitely sounds powerful.”

”Alright, enough buttering up your Senpai.” Jiraiya shot him a sidelong glance. How old was this kid, to already be this good at flattery?

Was that really a skill someone his age should have?

Still, Jiraiya no longer underestimated him. He asked, ”So, what ideas do you have to perfect this technique?”

Seiryū: ”...”

What did he mean ”buttering up”? He was clearly just trying to build rapport. Who doesn’t like a little praise?

As for improvements... of course he had some. He was the Ninja World’s plagiarist, after all.

Seiryū thought for a moment, then said, ”I do have an idea. Senpai, is the problem that you can’t stabilize the chakra’s rotation?”

”Then try using a shadow clone. Have the clone focus on maintaining the chakra’s rotation, while the original handles the compression and focusing. That might make it easier to form…”
