Super Strong Little Divine Farmer

Chapter 596: Chapter 597: New Clue (21st update)

In the hospital room, Lin Chen silently watched as Lu Dong’s face was etched with grief and indignation.

At this moment, his expression was highly complex, his gaze burning like a wild fire.

Lin Chen didn’t speak, he only watched quietly from the side.

Now, images of Lu Dong in his prime during his military service dominated his mind, along with memories of his illustrious career as a people’s guardian who struck terror in the hearts of criminals after becoming a police officer. He thought of his beautiful and gentle wife and their newborn son whom he had only seen once.

All of that was so beautiful, yet now he had become a drug trafficker with both hands severed, a murderer, a villain.

Thinking of how his wife would be devastated and how his son would bear the stigma of being a drug trafficker’s child, he closed his eyes in anguish.

Seeing the moment was right, Lin Chen continued, ”I know your pain, and I’ve learned some of your story. You are a good husband who left your homeland for their sake and came to a foreign land. If it hadn’t been for that puppet-master behind the scenes, your life should have followed a different trajectory. You should have been a good father to your child, a good husband to your wife, a good police officer to the people, but it was that puppet-master who caused all of this.”

Lu Dong was lying on the bed; the anger on his face had slowly faded, replaced now by longing and remorse.

If it hadn’t been for that one time, he might still be an outstanding police officer, perhaps even the deputy director of the public security bureau by now. He should be living a happy life with his beloved wife and son. But everything he had was destroyed.

Seeing the complex expression on Lu Dong’s face, Lin Chen continued, ”Lu Dong, I hope you can reveal the person who has been manipulating you from the shadows. It’s also doing yourself a favor. I will help you eliminate that puppet-master and avenge you.”

As he spoke, Lin Chen leaned in close to Lu Dong’s ear, ”I know what you value most in your life is your reputation. I will wipe away all the dark aspects of your life and make you a martyr who sacrificed himself undercover in T country. Your wife and your son will be proud of you... This is the only thing I can do for you now.”

Actually, Lin Chen was very sympathetic towards Lu Dong.

Lu Dong didn’t indulge in drugs for his own pleasure, but to solve cases. One could say that it was precisely his dedication to his work that led him down this road of no return. This was why Lin Chen wanted to help him.

Lin Chen’s words made Lu Dong shudder: ”Martyr!”

Although he knew he didn’t deserve that title, the thought that his son could hold his head high and say, ”My father was a martyr,” stirred something emotional within him.

Lu Dong knew he had let down his wife and even more so his son. Now, the status of a martyr was the only thing he could offer them.

Lin Chen nodded at him with a serious and sincere expression, waiting for Lu Dong’s answer.

Although his encounter with Lin Chen had been brief, Lu Dong knew that Lin Chen wouldn’t deceive him.

After a moment of contemplation, Lu Dong finally said, ”It’s Pei Lai En. He was the one instructing me to do it all.”

”Pei Lai En? Who is he?” Lin Chen inquired curiously.

”Pei Lai En is the son of Pei Lai De from the Far East Group. He’s the young master of the Pei Lai family. It was he who had me do all of this. Although the Far East Group appears to be a media conglomerate, they are actually a drug trafficking organization. I have been working for them all these years,” Lu Dong said gravely.

”How much do you know about this group?” Lin Chen asked seriously.

Lu Dong sighed, ”I’m just a minor figure who provided them with intelligence. I really don’t know much about their internal workings, and I only ever had direct contact with Pei Lai En.”

”Do you have any evidence?” Lin Chen asked.

Lu Dong nodded, ”I kept recordings of every meeting we had, they’re all on my phone.”

Upon hearing this, Lin Chen was overjoyed. With these recordings, he had enough to give Pei Lai En quite a headache.

Lin Chen was somewhat familiar with the Far East Group. The adversary was a business titan in T country, with vast networks in both the official and the commercial sectors, and it wasn’t going to be easy to take them down.

This conversation with Lu Dong had been immensely fruitful for Lin Chen.

Having said everything, Lu Dong suddenly asked, ”Mr. Lin, could you give me that video we just watched?”

Lin Chen nodded, bought a new phone, copied the video onto it, and propped it up in front of him.

After doing all this, Lin Chen patted Lu Dong on the shoulder, let out a sigh, and turned to leave.

Before leaving the hospital room, Lin Chen looked back and saw Lu Dong watching the video, his eyes brimming with tears, but his lips curved into a sweet smile.

Seeing this scene, Lin Chen’s heart also grew heavy with emotion; he was suddenly reminded of a saying, ”One false step and you’re the subject of everlasting regret.”

Leaving the hospital room, Lin Chen headed straight for Qima’s office.

”How did it go, did Lu Dong confess?” Qima asked anxiously upon seeing Lin Chen.

Lin Chen nodded, but then hesitated before saying, ”Qima, I want to ask you for a favor.”

”What kind of favor?” Seeing Lin Chen’s expression, Qima was momentarily startled.

”I want to grant Lu Dong the status of a martyr,” Lin Chen said solemnly.

”What? That’s impossible!” Qima shot up from her seat upon hearing this.

”He’s a drug dealer, a murderer who has committed numerous atrocities, a devil; how could he possibly be recognized as a martyr?” Qima argued fiercely.

Lin Chen spoke calmly, ”Don’t rush to judge, let me tell you a story.”

”This story is about a Chinese police officer...!”

Lin Chen recounted Lu Dong’s story to Qima, who quickly became engrossed, and by the end, her eyes were glistening with tears.

She had never imagined such a story behind Lu Dong.

Lin Chen nodded and continued, ”I admit, he wasn’t a good person, but there was a time when he was a good cop, maybe it’s all just a twist of fate!”

Qima let out a sigh, ”This matter you’re asking for is quite difficult, but I’ll see what I can do.”

Lin Chen smiled, ”Thank you, Qima, then.”

Next, Lin Chen told Qima everything that Lu Dong had confessed.

”It was the Far East Corporation!” Qima frowned more deeply upon hearing Lin Chen’s words.

”Is there a problem?” Lin Chen, seeing Qima’s reaction, knew that this wasn’t going to be easy.

Qima nodded, ”It’s very challenging. The Far East Corporation is the leading enterprise in our country of T, and the Pei Lai family has extensive connections here; taking action against them is incredibly difficult.”

After pondering for a moment, Lin Chen smiled, ”What if we kidnap Pei Lai quietly?”

”Kidnap him? What do you mean?” Qima was taken aback by Lin Chen’s words.

As Lin Chen laid out his plan to Qima, a smile soon appeared on her face.

”You’re so wicked, but Pei Lai is always surrounded by bodyguards, and each one is very powerful, it would be very difficult to kidnap him,” Qima voiced her concern.

Lin Chen smiled, ”The people I want to kidnap never escape my grasp.”
