Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

When we moved forward, there wasn’t enough space through the barbed wire, so we cut out a larger space to enter.

The forest was silent, with only the occasional chirping of insects.

Buzzing—

Jackals and Ants operated the cutting machine together, starting to cut the door.

The noise was immense.

The friction between steel and the cutting machine’s iron blades emitted a sharp sound, making one’s teeth ache upon hearing.

Third Uncle saw them start cutting and said to Li Yu, ”Xiao Yu, I’ll go draw some water; without water, the blades will wear out quickly.”

After saying that, Third Uncle grabbed the automatic rifle and headed toward the helicopter.

Seeing the situation, Li Yu quickly said to Yang Tianlong, ”You should go with Third Uncle.”

Yang Tianlong nodded and then followed Third Uncle.

Third Uncle saw Yang Tianlong coming over and did not refuse.

One more person means more water can be carried.

The two of them found four large barrels from the helicopter; these portable barrels were initially used to store aviation kerosene, and after filling the helicopter with kerosene, the remaining four barrels could be used to hold water.

Each barrel had a large capacity, enough for 30 liters.

Converted into weight units, each barrel holding water is about 30 kilograms.

Each person carried two barrels, totaling 120 jin.

The two of them carried the barrels and walked toward the outside of the military base.

Earlier, while in the sky, they noticed a small stream outside the slope opposite the military base, at the edge of the concrete road.

The stream was close to the slope, with the concrete road in between, and beyond that lay an abandoned farmland.

They strapped their guns to their backs and headed toward the stream with the barrels.

Three minutes later, they arrived at the stream.

Thanks to the typhoon rains from earlier, the stream running down the mountains reached about knee-high.

However, it was only one meter wide.

Yang Tianlong stood on the concrete road, about to bend down and place the large barrel into the water.

Suddenly, Third Uncle spoke, ”Wait!”

Yang Tianlong was puzzled, and Third Uncle walked over to him and used his gun to pick apart the grass growing in the stream ahead.

A zombie with only half its body was wedged on a large rock, with only its head and above the chest left.

Yang Tianlong saw this and immediately began sweating.

He had just thought about how there was a rock here, he could support himself with his hand while drawing water, so he wouldn’t have to step into the stream.

But if he did, the zombie could suddenly appear while he was drawing water, possibly scaring him into falling into the stream.

The consequences would be unimaginable.

Third Uncle glanced at Yang Tianlong and said calmly, ”Be careful.”

Then he crouched down and pulled out a dagger from his pants leg, resolving the zombie with one stab.

Yang Tianlong swallowed, somewhat puzzled, and asked, ”Third, Third Uncle, how did you know there was a zombie here? With such dense foliage, how did you see it?”

Third Uncle shook his head and said, ”I didn’t see it, but being careful is never wrong; it’s best to draw water where you can see the surroundings.”

Yang Tianlong wholeheartedly agreed and then said to Third Uncle, ”Then what do we do now? This water is polluted by the zombie, there might be more zombies upstream; can this water be used?”

”Of course it can be used, the water isn’t for drinking, it’s for the cutting machine. Let’s go, we’ll draw water a bit further upstream.” Third Uncle stood up and said to Yang Tianlong.

Yang Tianlong quickly followed Third Uncle, carrying two barrels, a meter ninety something tall, muscular man, happily following behind.

Being beside Third Uncle just gave a sense of security.

...

Buzzing—

Li Yu watched as sparks continually erupted from where the cutting machine met the door.

Teeth aching.

The sound was unbearable.

So he walked over to the helicopter and fetched some earplugs used for flying.

Just then, he saw Third Uncle and the others return with the water.

Yang Tianlong saw Li Yu and recounted what had just happened.

Li Yu smiled, saying nothing.

After the water was drawn, Third Uncle started using a plastic basin to pour water continuously onto the cutting machine.

Almost every time they cut for a while, water was poured.

An hour passed.

The cutting machine’s blade had been changed once, yet it still didn’t cut through the door.

Li Yu felt slightly numb.

He looked at the cutting machine that had cut a meter in, yet hadn’t reached the end.

This was only one side; if they needed to cut a hole big enough to enter, they’d need to cut four sides.

And now, they hadn’t even finished one side.

This thick iron door, how thick is it exactly!

During this, Li Yu also helped fetch water four or five times.

The cutting machine consumed a lot of water, if water wasn’t frequently poured, the blades would easily be rendered unusable.

Buzzing—

The group donned headsets, the enormous noise echoing through the forest.

Old Qin launched the drone to monitor the surroundings from the air.

Checking if any zombies would approach.

Although they were in the wild wilderness and it was daytime, it couldn’t be ruled out that such loud noise might attract zombies.

After half an hour of cutting, Li Yu and Third Uncle took over while Jackals and Ants took a break.

After over twenty minutes, Third Uncle, operating the cutting machine, suddenly felt the resistance seemingly vanish.

He quickly removed his headset, and hearing the sound of the cutting machine, a smile of joy appeared on his face.

”It’s through!” Third Uncle quickly removed his earphones and told everyone.

It wasn’t easy!

Third Uncle marked the blade of the cutting machine, then pulled the blade out from the gap and measured.

He spoke to everyone, ”One meter fifty-six, this door is one meter fifty-six thick.”

Gulp!

Yang Tianlong heard the number and swallowed.

It was thicker than the doors in their base, and made entirely of steel, he stepped back several paces, looking at the door, estimating how many tons it might weigh!

At this moment, Li Yu finally understood why Third Uncle opened this door, it was not easy; this door was simply too thick!

The road is tortuous, but the future is bright.

Such a thick door is usually installed at places of high secrecy level.

Inside, there must be many good things!

Everyone present practically shared this understanding.

Cutting one side took an hour and a half.

There were four more sides, requiring at least another four and a half hours.

Thus, just opening this door meant rotating labor for six hours.

Huff huff—

Li Yu panted, taking over from Third Uncle, following the line Jackals drew, began cutting, while Yang Tianlong quickly came over to help stabilize the cutting machine.

Buzzing—

The teeth-aching sound reappeared.

They took turns cutting, from 9:30 in the morning, through to 12:30 noon.

Only then did they cut two sides.

But they didn’t stop, rotating rest intervals, even Old Qin joined to help.

Old Qin, Li Yu, Third Uncle, Yang Tianlong, Ants, Jackals.

Six people in total, divided into three groups, cutting in half-hour shifts.

One group fetching water, another group split in two, one person pouring water on the cutting machine, another standing guard.

The person standing guard could eat something during the downtime.

Though all those present had decent stamina, several hours of continuous work wore them out.

At two in the afternoon.

They finally reached the last side to cut.

Hands operating the cutting machine began to tremble.

At 2:45 in the afternoon, halfway through the last side.

But just at this moment.

Yang Tianlong, standing guard, biting dry rations, sat on the helicopter, occasionally surveyed the surroundings, occasionally checked the drone screen.

Suddenly, seeing the image on the drone screen, a thrill ran through him, the dry ration in his mouth fell, he quickly placed the ration aside.

Jumped off the helicopter and rushed inside the barbed wire.

”Xiao Yu, Third Uncle, look at these glowing things, are they zombies?”

At this moment, Third Uncle was pouring water, although wearing a headset, he occasionally checked around.

Seeing Yang Tianlong approaching, noticing his expression, Third Uncle quickly removed his headset and looked at the screen in Yang Tianlong’s hands.

In the field outside the small hill opposite the military base, a dozen glowing... zombie-like things appeared.
