Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

After Third Uncle and the others finished refueling the helicopter with aviation kerosene in Xiu County, they flew straight toward Oil City.

All along the way, from the helicopter they saw the devastation left behind in the wake of the typhoon.

Very soon.

An hour and a half later, they reached the skies above Oil City.

In the entire Oil City, all the Zombies were gathered outside the two buildings in the center, roaring. Because of the defensive wall, these Zombies that had been blown in by the typhoon couldn’t climb over it to get out, and could only remain inside Oil City.

Third Uncle picked up the walkie‑talkie to contact Old Bi in Oil City, informing him that they had now arrived over Oil City and telling them to get ready to come out.

The roar of the helicopter drew the Zombies’ attention below; one after another they lifted their heads to look up at the sky.

When Old Bi received Third Uncle’s message, he was wild with joy.

In the room he shouted to everyone, ”Get ready, the base has sent people! Move the stuff away, we’re getting out!”

A cheer went up.

On the other side.

Third Uncle said to Jackals, ”Drop a bit lower, then lure the Zombies over to the Southwest Corner.”

At his words, Jackals immediately brought the helicopter down until it was only twenty meters off the ground; that was already extremely low.

The tremendous noise of the helicopter drew all the Zombies surrounding those two buildings, and the huge vortex of air blew ripples across the standing water below.

Ring after ring spread out.

Once the Zombies had all gathered under the helicopter, Jackals piloted it toward the Southwest Corner. There was an open patch of ground over there that had originally been used for growing crops, but it had been completely destroyed in the typhoon.

The flight speed was very slow; they practically had to hover for a bit after flying a short distance, waiting for the Zombies behind to catch up.

Very soon, most of the Zombies that had been surrounding those two buildings had followed over.

At the same time, Old Bi and the others were wading inside, moving away some of the heavy objects stacked against the doors and windows. After being soaked in water for so long, these things had become even heavier; it took them a tremendous amount of effort just to move part of them.

Over a dozen minutes later, Third Uncle and the others had drawn the Zombies to the Southwest Corner.

Third Uncle looked at the dense mass of Zombies below, exchanged a glance with Ant and Old Qin, and in tacit agreement pulled out Hand Grenades and tossed them down.

Boom, boom, boom.

They all threw to where the Zombies were packed the tightest, instantly blasting out a vacuum zone in the middle of the horde.

Because there was standing water on the ground, the explosions sent spray shooting more than ten meters into the air.

Jackals then pulled the helicopter higher.

The Zombies below, seeing the corpses of their dead companions, shifted their attention to the bodies and started gnawing away.

This time Third Uncle and the others had brought a lot of Hand Grenades, and now they were finally putting them to use.

The explosions continued without pause.

Listening to the continuous explosions outside, Old Bi’s face was alight with excitement.

Seeing that they were still shifting things away from the doors and windows, he frowned and shouted, ”What’s going on, you still haven’t opened it?”

One of the team members was drenched in sweat as he helped the forklift drag a sealed iron tank full of crude oil.

”Captain, it won’t budge, I don’t know what’s wrong.”

Old Bi furrowed his brows and was just about to go over and take a look himself.

But then he saw Zuo Ruxue walk over.

The water level indoors was almost up to their knees. This was already after the rain had stopped yesterday and today, with some of the water draining out through gaps in Oil City, causing the water level to drop.

If it had been yesterday at noon, the water would have been up to their waists.

Zuo Ruxue grabbed an iron bar, reached her right hand down into the water and felt around. After dozens of seconds, she seemed to have found something.

Then she jammed the iron bar down, using it as a lever to pry something out from underneath.

Schlup—

The two fork tines of the forklift, which hadn’t been able to get underneath before, suddenly slid in smoothly.

”It was jammed underneath,” Zuo Ruxue said to Old Bi.

Old Bi nodded, pointed at the team member, then tapped his own temple with his finger.

The meaning was that he should learn from her and use his brain more.

These past days, Zuo Ruxue had actually been a great help to him.

He had never been very good at these minor, detailed management tasks, and tended to overlook a lot of things.

Zuo Ruxue would often remind him and help share the load.

And during this period, Zuo Ruxue and the others had been learning very fast, quickly mastering the method of refining crude oil.

Back then, in order to make the doors and windows tighter, they had piled up a lot of heavy objects. However much effort they’d put in then, that’s how much trouble they were having moving them now.

On the other side.

Third Uncle and the others were like fishermen baiting a spot, tossing Hand Grenades into the Zombie horde every now and then.

The tremendous sound of the Hand Grenades drew every Zombie in Oil City over; even those hiding in other buildings were all rushing out.

Watching the Zombies trickle in one group after another, Third Uncle and the others felt a bit bored.

This repetitive, monotonous Zombie‑killing routine was getting a little dull.

....

”It’s all pushed away!” A team member wiped the sweat from his brow and looked at the bare doors and windows, through which water from outside was surging into the room.

The difference in water levels—because it hadn’t rained yesterday or today—wasn’t that big anymore, only less than half a meter, but it would still reach up to a person’s waist.

”Everyone up to the second floor,” Old Bi said to the group.

Then he spoke to the team members operating the forklift: ”In a bit, once you two open this door, go open the main gate right away, then clear out the drainage outlet.”
