Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

As the number of people in the Big Camphor Tree Base increased, Li Yu actually also understood that the assessment system they’d set up was very troublesome and rather inefficient.

However, Li Yu was very firmly convinced that it had to be done this way.

If they relaxed it, letting those people into the Outer City without being tested first—

If he couldn’t even guarantee the loyalty of the companions living right under his nose, that would be even more worrying and terrifying.

He’d rather have fewer people than live in constant fear; besides, Li Yu had never planned on saving the world anyway.

As long as he had enough ability to protect himself, and wouldn’t be targeted and taken out in this Doomsday, he felt that was enough.

....

In just a brief moment, Li Yu had already finished thinking all this through in his head.

Then he said to Second Uncle, ”I have an idea. Just in time, in two days we’re heading back to Oil City, so let’s have Zuo Ruxue and the others go over together.”

”Huh? Let them go over? What’s the purpose?” Second Uncle frowned and blurted out.

Li Yu patiently explained the situation over at Oil City to Second Uncle.

Yesterday they’d been pressed for time, and he’d only given a rough outline; Second Uncle didn’t really understand the specifics of Oil City.

After Li Yu had gone through his considerations with Second Uncle—

Second Uncle’s eyes lit up; he nodded and said, ”This method is actually pretty good. Manpower is relatively scarce over at Oil City, but its importance is huge.

Compared to those people from the Original Oil City, Zuo Ruxue and the others are clearly much more trustworthy. I think this plan is great, let’s do it.”

Hearing Second Uncle’s affirmation, Li Yu smiled, then said, ”Alright, then when the time comes, Second Uncle, you tell Zuo Ruxue and the others, have them get ready over the next two days, and we’ll set out and leave in two days. Remember to tell them not to bring too much stuff.”

Second Uncle closed his notebook and nodded. ”Got it.”

Li Yu grunted in acknowledgment and was about to leave.

Second Uncle suddenly stopped Li Yu, looking a bit hesitant, wanting to speak but holding back.

After thinking for a while, as if he’d finally made up his mind, he asked, ”Xiao Yu, I’ve seen you these two days sending He Chao and Ding Jiu to reinforce some parts of the base. Do you feel like something’s going to happen?”

In fact, this wasn’t the first time Li Yu had done something like this.

From the previous bouts of extreme heat, severe cold, volcanic eruptions and so on, Li Yu always seemed to be able to predict the future, preparing the base in advance.

That was the only reason the base had avoided loss after loss.

He had even started preparing to build this base before the Zombie outbreak.

That couldn’t help but make people think: how did Li Yu know?

However, up to now, no one had ever asked Li Yu, and no one dared to ask him this question.

The core members in the base were either Li Yu’s relatives, or Survivors he had rescued, all extremely loyal to him; so if Li Yu didn’t want to talk, they wouldn’t ask.

Besides, people are very good at filling in the blanks themselves.

In some people’s eyes, they might feel that Li Yu had some kind of prophetic ability. After all, Zombies had appeared; having a Prophet among humans was perfectly reasonable, right?

When Second Uncle questioned Li Yu, he only asked why these things needed to be done, not what they were based on.

That was because over these past two or three years, Li Yu had proven himself over and over again with one correct decision after another.

People have inertia; once outcomes are repeatedly the same, a fixed perception forms naturally.

Li Yu turned his head and glanced at Second Uncle in surprise. He actually hadn’t arranged that much work, and it was all fairly routine stuff; he hadn’t expected Second Uncle to be this sensitive.

After pondering for a moment, Li Yu said, ”It’s just that we’ve had natural disaster after natural disaster these past two years, and now it’s been several months without anything happening. I can’t help feeling uneasy, so I wanted to make some preparations. I happened to notice a few issues, so I had He Chao and the others deal with them.”

Explained like this, it sounded quite reasonable.

Second Uncle nodded and said, ”I wouldn’t have noticed if you hadn’t mentioned it, but it really is like that. You’re right. Since that’s the case, once the Third Outer City is built, I’ll have them reinforce the base as well.”

Hearing this, Li Yu felt that was fine too; it was just patching up weak spots anyway.

So he said, ”Sounds good.”

Looking at the Residential Building in the Second Outer City, Second Uncle suddenly said, ”Actually, I feel like keeping the Zombie Generator and the Zombies in that Residential Building isn’t really ideal. I always feel like putting them underground would be better. What do you think?”

Li Yu said with a smile, ”I think so too. But building an underground bunker takes time. Let’s talk about it after we finish building the Third Outer City.”

Second Uncle didn’t say anything more. When Li Yu saw that Second Uncle had nothing else to add, he greeted him and left.

In fact, with the typhoon that would arrive soon, the Big Camphor Tree Base was already fairly solid.

Not to mention anything else, all the buildings inside and out—whether the walls or the foundations of the Residential Buildings—had been sunk extremely deep; there was no way a typhoon could blow them over.

Even that greenhouse had faced the threat of violent winds and rain back when it was first being built, so it had also been constructed to be extremely sturdy.

Still, better safe than sorry.

No one knew how much damage the typhoon would cause as it passed.

All Li Yu could do was try his best to be as prepared as possible.

.....

Ever since they got the military radio, the Big Camphor Tree Base had been communicating with Oil City every day.

After Li Yu and Second Uncle discussed matters between them, while Second Uncle notified Zuo Ruxue and the others to get ready, he also passed this news along to Third Uncle, who was a thousand miles away.
