Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

Chapter 1185: Chapter 735: Was It You Who Left the Erguotou?

He had always wanted to ask the Jackals a question about whether it was him who left that bottle of Erguotou.

But, there was never an opportunity to ask.

He didn’t see him among the Cooperative Personnel or the Extra Staff, until this time when he entered the Outer City and heard from those around him. Only then did he know that the Jackals actually had such a relationship with the General Captain of the Big Camphor Tree Base’s Special Warfare Group.

And the Jackals had directly entered the Outer City.

Feeling that someone was behind him, the Jackals slowed his steps and looked back.

Seeing it was Dongfeng, there was not much emotion in his eyes, he turned his head and was about to continue walking forward.

For him, placing that bottle of Erguotou there was for himself, for peace of mind, for Dongfeng not abandoning teammates at such crucial moments.

He never expected any reward.

He just turned around and after taking a few steps forward.

A voice came from behind, ”Hello, may I ask you a question?”

Clearly, Dongfeng was coming after him.

The Jackals stopped, somewhat speculating why Dongfeng caught up with him.

Since he actively came over to ask, and it wasn’t something bad he did, why not answer.

So, he stopped and turned around.

Looking at Dongfeng, he calmly asked, ”Go ahead and ask.”

”Phew, I’m Dongfeng, newly joined as Cooperative Personnel at the Big Camphor Tree Base. I wanted to ask you whether it was you who placed that bottle of Red Star Erguotou under the steps of that house?”

Dongfeng said in one breath, looking seriously at the Jackals.

”Yes.” The Jackals guessed correctly; indeed, it was this question.

Without further ado, Dongfeng clasped his hands together to salute the Jackals, ”Thank you for that bottle of Erguotou. If it weren’t for you, we might not have survived until now.”

The Jackals shook his head and said, ”No, it was you who saved him. If it weren’t for you decisively cutting off his hand, he would have definitely died.”

Dongfeng looked astonished. He hadn’t expected the Jackals to know even this, indicating that he had been following them in secret all along.

The Jackals, seeing his expression, guessed what he was thinking and explained, ”Actually, I should thank you. If you hadn’t brought us here, we might still be wandering aimlessly. There was even a large chance we wouldn’t find this place.”

After saying that, he also clasped his hands towards Dongfeng in a salute.

Dongfeng smiled wryly and said, ”Too embarrassed, along the way, we had no idea you were following us. By the way, where did you start following us?”

Dongfeng was very puzzled. Along the way, they had no sense of someone following behind them.

In this doomsday world, one not only has to avoid zombies but also find a suitable and safe camp every night.

They had looked back many times, and it was a journey that lasted more than a week, yet so many of them never noticed!

After hearing his question, the Jackals thought for a moment and said, ”The Southern part of Chang City, if I’m not mistaken.”

”!!!”

”You had been following us since that early? And with a kid, you’re truly incredible.” Dongfeng, shocked, said several ”you” and finally concluded with ”you’re incredible.”

The Jackals raised an eyebrow, feeling this was basic operation.

Seeing the rain getting heavier, he recalled the captain had just said that sister-in-law and Xiao Yong had come over, so he needed to check it out.

So, he said to Dongfeng, ”Dongfeng, nice to meet you. The rain is getting heavier, you should find shelter. I have to go now. Let’s chat when there’s a chance.”

”Okay, thanks again.” Dongfeng politely replied.

Watching the Jackals’ departing figure, Dongfeng found himself slightly dazed. He suddenly remembered the news he heard the other day while building at the Third Outer City construction site.

The General Captain of the Big Camphor Tree Base’s Special Warfare Group was once the captain of that legendary Special Forces, and the few people who were often with him were members of that Special Forces.

Missing a front tooth was Old Qin, and the one with a dark German Shepherd was the Ant, as for the newly appeared guy who looked a bit temperamental, that was the Jackals.

In the rain, Dongfang looked at the Jackals’ back, feeling a bit emotional.

No wonder they were the legendary Special Forces, their capabilities are indeed astonishing.

At the same time, there’s a feeling that the description given by the Extra Staff a few days ago regarding the few of them seemed a bit off.

”Feels like he’s quite good-tempered.” Dongfeng shook his head, ran his hands through his hair, which was already a bit wet.

At this time, only a few people were left in the empty space of the Outer City in the rain.

So he immediately ran to the greenhouse.

......

In the greenhouse where the Extra Staff stayed, people like Xiao Hu, Zhu Xiao, Yu Lei, and others had come over to congratulate him.

Being part of the Extra Staff at least ensured one thing: they wouldn’t starve to death.

Only over two hundred Extra Staff members, most were people who had cooperated with the Big Camphor Tree Base for a long time, and they knew each other.

Bai Wenyang had only interacted with Zhu Xiao before and had little contact with other Extra Staff members.

Zhu Xiao walked over to Bai Wenyang, smiling warmly, and said, ”Old Bai, congratulations. Can’t believe you’ve only joined the Big Camphor Tree Base for half a year and now you can receive the minimum guarantee.”

The minimum guarantee.

This term was a joke among the Extra Staff.

With the minimum guarantee, at least they wouldn’t starve.

Bai Wenyang pursed his lips and said, ”It’s all thanks to my team members. Speaking of which, I haven’t seen you guys recently, were you out on a long-distance mission?”

It was fine unless you mentioned it; once you did, Zhu Xiao felt a bit awkward.

Originally, according to the plan, they were supposed to transport the remaining steel from the Guang City over the next couple of days. After transporting all that steel, the assessment would basically be completed.

This was crucial for them entering the Outer City.

But out of nowhere, the Western Alliance popped up, disrupting the plan.

Now it’s raining, who knows when it will stop.

As long as the steel at Guang City isn’t completely moved, he won’t feel right.

But he had no choice; all actions depend on Director Li and the others’ orders before they can act.

Seeing Zhu Xiao sigh continuously, Bai Wenyang asked in some confusion, ”What’s the matter?”

Zhu Xiao was about to speak but felt it inappropriate now.

Now that they’ve just become Extra Staff, telling them there’s a very real possibility of becoming Outer City personnel could make Bai Wenyang envious to the point of envy.

Moreover, when the zombie incident happened at the steel plant, even though the primary responsibility wasn’t his, it was very likely due to this error, the assessment period could be extended.

Things that are uncertain are better left unsaid.

More importantly, he, Zhu Xiao, wanted to act modest.

So he said, ”It’s nothing, you’ll know in time. By the way, later I’ll introduce you to the other group leaders of the Extra Staff.”

Bai Wenyang’s eyes lit up and he readily agreed, ”Sure.”

......

On another side, Kuizi’s daughter held a prize in her hand, looking proud.

Zuo Ruxue, who always liked little children, with a little girl went over to chat with Sisi.

The little girl beside her was under Yu Lei of the 11th group’s Extra Staff. The once-emaciated Xiao Yi and her mother, during the last natural disaster, were protected by Yu Lei, who bore a beating from another group’s cooperative personnel and adhered to the Big Camphor Tree Base’s rules.

Director Li appreciated his willingness to get beaten rather than violate the rules, and coupled with Yu Lei’s group points reaching the critical point, they were made Extra Staff.

The once-emaciated Xiao Yi had now gained a bit of weight.

Zuo Ruxue led Xiao Yi, walked up to Sisi, and greeted Sisi’s mother.

Then she said to Sisi, ”You’re called Sisi, right? Let me introduce you to a new friend.”

Sisi looked up at Zuo Ruxue, then at Xiao Yi.

Politely, she said, ”Hello.”

As she spoke, she raised the prize in her hand slightly.

Zuo Ruxue watched this scene, smiling kindly and nodded to Sisi’s mother.

”I’m Xiao Yi, nice to meet you.” Xiao Yi extended her thin hand.

The two little girls shook hands.

Zuo Ruxue saw this, felt she could leave, and bid farewell to Sisi’s mother before leaving.

.....

Outside the greenhouse, the rain gradually intensified.

Drip drip drop.

Rain droplets beat down on the greenhouse’s PVC panels, making crisp sounds.

...

OS: There’ll be more at midnight.
