Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

Chapter 825: Chapter 608: Shocking Encounter in the Zombie Tower (Part 2)

The former luxury and glory have long disappeared, leaving only desolation and bleakness.

In the center of the hall, the once tall and magnificent crystal chandelier had fallen, its fragments scattered on the ground.

On one side of the hall, where once stood a luxurious restaurant, only a few collapsed tables and chairs remained, and the exquisite oil paintings that hung on the restaurant walls were nowhere to be seen.

Li Yu and the others moved through this ruined hall, discovering that many pieces of furniture and items had been set aside, some even dismantled by earlier survivors searching for useful parts.

The entire hall exuded a stale smell, as if time had frozen here.

Suddenly, Dong Tai pointed in the direction of a side corridor and said to Li Yu, ”Director Li, go up from this side.”

Li Yu shone the flashlight over and saw a door.

Dong Tai walked over, opened the door with one hand, revealing the stairs inside.

”This is it, let’s go up from here.” Dong Tai smiled, pleased to have found the staircase.

The building had changed so much that he couldn’t recall how it used to look when he entered.

Li Yu watched the door being pushed open, and under the light, shadows appeared.

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight?

Why are there three more?

Li Yu quickly turned his head to look at Dapao and the others beside him, all standing still.

”Be careful, close the door.” Li Yu shouted to Dong Tai.

He leaped forward and pulled Dong Tai over.

Thud—

Without Dong Tai’s support, the door slowly began to close.

Click—

But at the last moment, a zombie with decaying flesh used its hand to wedge the door, opening its mouth and emitting a terrifying roar.

The zombie’s arm was caught in the door, and black pus oozed through the gap. It struggled desperately, trying to reopen the door.

Suddenly, the footsteps of two zombies could be heard from behind the door, followed by two more zombies squeezing through the gap, their eyes gleaming with bloodthirsty light as they lunged at Li Yu and the others.

”Don’t use guns, take them down with knives.” Li Yu reminded, witnessing the scene.

Third Uncle, Dapao, and Ju Tianrui, who had been watching the door with Li Yu after pulling Dong Tai over, naturally noticed the three zombies emerging from inside. Upon hearing Li Yu’s reminder, each faced one, drawing the daggers from their thighs and rushed forward.

Thud—

The three were crisp and decisive, without the slightest hesitation.

Almost as soon as they encountered the zombies, they skillfully stabbed their daggers into the zombies’ skulls.

They had survived in the apocalypse for so long, having faced so many zombies, they already knew the simplest and most efficient way to dispatch them.

Dong Tai slowly turned around, seeing the three zombies emerging from the staircase, feeling a lingering fear.

That was close; if Li Yu hadn’t pulled him over just now, he might have been...

”Be careful, let’s go.” Li Yu nodded to Ju Tianrui and the others, then walked towards the stairs.

The crisis averted, the group was not overly frightened.

In such buildings, zombies hiding within were occasionally encountered, making ambush incidents commonplace.

”Little Dong, don’t just stand there, let’s go.” Ju Tianrui reminded after seeing Dong Tai staring blankly at the three dead zombies on the ground.

Hearing Ju Tianrui’s reminder, Dong Tai snapped back to reality, shook his head, coughed, and hurried to catch up.

The flashlight shone in the staircase.

They climbed step by step, layer by layer. Without the flashlight, only faint light was visible, the dim stairwell creating a sinister atmosphere.

The ground was covered with thick dust, clearly uncleaned for a long time.

The climbing left them breathless, sweat dripping down their cheeks.

Twenty-eight floors.

They felt like they were mountain climbing, somewhat fatigued, but they had to keep going.

In this terrifying environment, they remained constantly vigilant, fearing the sudden appearance of zombies.

Luckily, they were physically fit, reaching the top floor in under 8 minutes.

Emerging from the dim environment, pushing open the door, it instantly became bright.

Li Yu, at the forefront, raised his hand slightly to block the sunlight, squinting his eyes.

The wind on the rooftop was strong, and with their rapid ascent, their bodies’ stuffy heat was alleviated.

Li Yu took a couple of breaths, looked around, seeing no people or zombies, breathed a sigh of relief, and removed his helmet.

It was indeed stifling to wear a helmet all the time.

Li Yu walked to the edge of the rooftop, crouched, and looked towards Juzi Island in front.

On the top of the twenty-eight-story building, all the surrounding scenery was visible at a glance.

Juzi Island is in the center of the Xiangjiang River. There are two cross-river bridges on it.

Li Yu looked at the bridge to the north and said, ”That should be the Yingpan Road Tunnel, right?”

Ju Tianrui also leaned on the railing and said, ”Yes, that’s the Yingpan Road Tunnel. When we go over tomorrow, we’ll go from there.”

Li Yu nodded, took out the telescope, and carefully observed the situation at Juzi Island.

On the north side of Juzi Island, over a dozen people could be seen on the surrounding walls, patrolling back and forth.

Outside the walls in the river, one or two zombies occasionally appeared.

In contrast, the southern part of Juzi Island presented a completely different scene from the north.

This refugee camp was completely destroyed, now only filled with wandering zombies.

The tents in the camp were utterly ruined, torn apart, with dusty ground covered in footprints and zombie claw marks.

The center of the camp was a plaza, strewn with bones and debris.

Once a place for refugees to survive and rest, it had now become a ruin, desolate.

The traces of human survival were completely erased, leaving only relentless zombie marks and ruins.

The camp was filled with a suffocating scent, blending decaying bodies and moldy tents.

In this deserted place, the zombies had become the only rulers, but there were only a dozen or so.

They crowded at the junction of the south and north districts, attempting to climb, but due to insufficient numbers and strengthened walls, they couldn’t succeed.

Li Yu, a bit curious, asked Ju Tianrui beside him, ”Didn’t you tell me there were many refugees in the South District? Why can’t I see anyone in the South District?”

Ju Tianrui held the telescope, not answering Li Yu’s question for a long time.

Where did the people go?

The zombies appearing in the South District already provided the answer.

He never imagined Gan Shang could be so cold-blooded, leaving no refugees alive in the South District.

After a while.

With a tinge of sorrow in his eyes, Ju Tianrui said to Li Yu, ”When we left Juzi Island, there were still hundreds of refugees. Now, they are probably all dead.”

Li Yu said nothing, continuing to observe Juzi Island through the telescope.

Through the telescope, the inside was clearly visible.

After watching for over ten minutes, counting those coming out of and going into buildings, only about thirty people in total could be seen.

However, how many people were inside the building was unseen, making it impossible to estimate the exact number of people currently at Juzi Island.

But Ju Tianrui, having stayed there before, knew the place well.

Looking at the current defense and some familiar faces.

”They must have suffered heavy losses this time; many familiar faces are gone. From the looks of it, the number of people inside definitely won’t exceed one hundred,” Ju Tianrui asserted.

Upon hearing this, Li Yu raised an eyebrow and said, ”If there are less than a hundred people, then it feels like we’re shooting mosquitoes with a cannon. And looking at their equipment, it’s all mixed up and not uniform at all.”

”But, with fewer people, our pressure will also be less.”

Seeing Third Uncle making gestures with his hands.

Li Yu, curious, asked Third Uncle, ”Third Uncle, what are you doing?”

”I’m measuring distance, the shelling range, because of the building obstruction, we can’t fire from further away, so it has to be by the river, and I think that spot is good,” Third Uncle pointed to the Chaozong Sect by the river.

Li Yu picked up the telescope and looked in that direction.

The terrain was flat, indeed a good location.
