Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

Chapter 714: Chapter 567: The Last Six Hours_2

”Butcher, there are people blocking the road ahead.” He spoke with apprehension in his eyes, addressing Zhu Xiao who was resting in the back seat.

The name ’Butcher’ was given to him because Zhu Xiao had looked like a butcher since he was a child, with a tall and burly stature. By the time he was in sixth grade, he was already taller than his teachers.

By the time he was in junior high, he was almost two meters tall.

Upon hearing his childhood friend Skinny Monkey’s words, Zhu Xiao instantly stood up from his seat, his eyes blazing with intensity. His widened eyes looked fiercely determined.

He leaned his head against the front windshield, looking towards Dong Tai’s direction.

It had been a long time since the apocalypse began, and it wasn’t the first time they encountered people blocking their way to rob them, but those who dared to block their path all met with grim fates.

Robbers instead got robbed!

However, this time was not simple!

The vehicles ahead had already completely blocked the road.

At a distance of less than 30 meters, Skinny Monkey stopped the vehicle and turned his head towards Zhu Xiao, saying, ”There are guns on the other side, they look like soldiers. What should we do?”

Although Zhu Xiao appeared rugged and careless, he was also a perceptive man, otherwise, he wouldn’t have survived till now.

He noticed that Dong Tai and others were holding firearms and in full gear, also driving military vehicles.

He couldn’t help but wonder: Has it come to a point these days where even armed groups resort to robbery?

He also calculated the chances of just charging through.

Finally, he said to the driver, ”Skinny Monkey, if we rush through, is there a chance?”

Skinny Monkey’s face was bitter, and with a hoarse voice, he said, ”Unlikely, their military vehicles are heavy by nature. And it’s not just one vehicle; the road is packed. If we crash into them, our vehicle will likely be wrecked...”

”What about taking another route?” Zhu Xiao asked.

”The other route would require a big detour. We are already two days behind schedule, and time is very tight. Taking a detour, we might likely not make it in time.”

”Ah!” Zhu Xiao heavily pounded the sofa underneath him.

After two seconds, Zhu Xiao regained his composure. Up to now, there had been no movement from the other side; perhaps they didn’t mean any harm?

So he said, ”Prepare to reverse, everyone stay in the vehicle. Be ready to pull out at any moment.”

On the other side.

Dong Tai saw the two vehicles facing him stop.

He breathed a sigh of relief.

To lower the guard of the people on the other side to prevent them from being scared away,

Dong Tai made a sign to the people beside him, and they all put down their guns.

He also raised his gun high, signaling to the other side, then slowly placed it on the vehicle.

He raised his hands high, showing he carried nothing.

Slowly, he walked towards Zhu Xiao’s side.

The people ahead were unknown to him, but he must find out from them if they knew of Xiao Jun’s whereabouts.

But, in this post-apocalyptic world, many survivors simply didn’t care about such things, and if they did submit, it was merely because of their weapons!

The tension, coupled with the heat, made his forehead sweat like a faucet, dropping onto the hot asphalt road.

The sweat barely touched the road before it evaporated.

One step, two steps. Seeing no movement from Zhu Xiao’s side, Dong Tai gathered his strength but did not relax.

While walking towards them, he shouted to Zhu Xiao and the others, ”Hello, we are from the military, we mean no harm. I just want to inquire about something.

Have you heard of Xiao Jun? They wear the same uniforms as us.”

Fearing they hadn’t understood clearly, Dong Tai repeated it twice more.

”Stop there.” Zhu Xiao, seeing him approach within ten meters of the vehicle, rolled down his window and shouted at him.

Dong Tai stopped, raising his hands high, looking towards the people in the frontal vehicle.

Zhu Xiao spoke, ”We don’t know who Xiao Jun is, sorry, could you let us pass?”

Even though Dong Tai had taken precautions and wore a hat, the fabric could not shield the scorching sun, and he felt his skin burning, making him frown.

Upon hearing Zhu Xiao’s words, a flash of despair crossed Dong Tai’s mind, but he quickly responded, ”Where are you headed? We have people with severe heatstroke, needing treatment. Do you know where we can get help?”

Hearing this, Zhu Xiao felt conflicted, out of respect for Dong Tai’s uniform, he was inclined to tell him that Big Camphor Tree Base could help.

But seeing that these people were armed and unclear whether they were impersonating others - nothing could be proven.

As an extra staff member of the Big Camphor Tree Base, entitled to a small ration each month and indebted to the base for saving his life, his primary concern was the base’s interest.

For a moment, he didn’t know what to do.

Inside the vehicle, Skinny Monkey couldn’t help saying, ”If it really doesn’t work out, we should just pull out.”

Meanwhile, on the other side, Dong Tai carefully recalled some details about Xiao Jun mentioned by Ju Tianrui before.

Suddenly, a thought struck him, and he shouted to Zhu Xiao and his group, ”We really mean no harm, we have had some people come over for quite a few days now, and it seems they joined a force here.

It’s something Camphor, do you know it?”

Inside Zhu Xiao’s vehicle, five or six people exchanged glances.

They knew the place this man was talking about – it was exactly where they were heading: Big Camphor Tree Base.
