Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce

It wasn’t until he was standing before her that she truly registered her surroundings.

The din of the crowd, the lively atmosphere, and his voice, tinged with a hint of puzzlement, ”What are you looking at?”

Chloe Reed raised a fist and punched him in the chest, her eyes instantly turning red. ”Where have you been?!”

Caught off guard by the punch, Walker clutched his chest. He then looked over at Daniel Hayes and said, ”Didn’t you tell her?”

Daniel Hayes was dumbfounded.

’What the hell, man?!’

’Is that any way to handle this?’

’Weren’t you the one who wanted to suddenly disappear to see how she would react?’

’So why are you throwing me under the bus now?’

Daniel Hayes pointed to himself. ”I...”

His eyes flew open, ready to argue, but the moment he met Walker’s dark, almond-shaped eyes, the words died in his throat.

’Damn it!’

’He’s threatening me!’

’If I dare tell Chloe the whole truth, I can kiss my job goodbye.’

’Not only that, but that scheming bastard Walker might even blacklist me in the industry.’

’How will I ever get another gig?’

Daniel Hayes was seething with resentment!

But when he met Chloe’s gaze, he had no choice but to bite the bullet and make something up. ”Right, so, what I was just talking about... I just wanted to know if you really want to divorce him...”

’What a terrible excuse...’

Chloe’s expression darkened completely. ”Is this fun?” she asked in a cold voice.

Daniel Hayes immediately caved, lowering his head to admit his fault. ”Miss Chloe, I was wrong.”

But Chloe said, ”You’re my bodyguard. You’re supposed to put me first, not pull these pointless stunts. Besides, whether or not I get divorced is none of your business.”

Daniel Hayes didn’t dare to make a sound.

Seeing this, Walker began, ”About this...”

”And you.” Chloe whipped her head around to face him. ”Did you think I wouldn’t figure it out? The two of you have been in cahoots this whole time, haven’t you?”

Walker’s expression froze. ”Chloe, what are you talking about...”

”Don’t play dumb.”

Chloe’s face was a cold mask. ”He’s not the type to meddle. He couldn’t care less about other people’s divorces. That excuse was completely pathetic.”

She took a step back, a scornful glint appearing in her clear eyes. ”Walker Grant, you know exactly what kind of situation I’m in. I’m constantly on edge. And yet you decide to test me like this? What, did you want to see if I’d be worried and scared when you vanished?”

She nodded. ”Yes. I was scared. So you got what you wanted. But this is the one and only time. I will never trust you again!”

With that, she turned and stormed off.

Walker’s expression changed, and he hurried after her. ”Chloe!”

Chloe walked quickly, dodging his attempts to touch her. A furious rage swelled in her chest. She felt like a complete idiot.

’That panic and anxiety when I realized he was gone... that sigh of relief when I saw he was back safe and sound...’

’What was I doing?’

’What was I thinking?’

’Haven’t the past lessons been painful enough?’

’Do I really want to make the same mistake all over again?’

Overwhelming anger and a sense of grievance finally converged, and Chloe felt her eyes sting, on the verge of tears.

Suddenly, a hand grabbed her wrist. Without a second thought, she spun around and slapped him squarely across the face.

”Walker Grant, you bastard!”

The sharp crack of the slap sounded unusually loud on the bustling street. Passing pedestrians turned to stare in astonishment.

Walker kept his grip tight on her wrist, refusing to let go. He apologized in a low voice, ”I’m sorry. It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have done it. Chloe, I just... I couldn’t stand the thought that you really don’t care about me anymore. I just had to test it.”
