Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce

Chloe Reed raised an eyebrow slightly and said softly, ”You dug this hole, you fill it.”

A flicker of resignation crossed Walker Grant’s features. He took her phone and met the old woman’s cloudy eyes on the screen.

”Grandma.”

The old woman’s brow furrowed when she saw the face on the screen had changed. ”Where’s Chloe? Why is it you?”

Walker Grant put on a placating smile. ”Grandma, I’m the one who whisked Chloe away. I wanted to take her on a trip, just to get away and relax for a bit. The trip was planned in a hurry, so we didn’t get to tell you. I’m sorry for making you worry. It was thoughtless of me. I was wrong.”

He was so quick to admit his mistake, and with that handsome face of his looking so sincere, the old woman couldn’t bring herself to say anything more.

She was silent for a long moment before saying, ”I was just worried because I didn’t know where you had gone. Since you’re on vacation, just enjoy yourselves.”

Walker Grant nodded. ”Yes, I understand.”

He then handed the phone back to Chloe Reed.

Chloe Reed put on an obedient smile, her eyes crinkling as she met her grandmother’s gaze.

”You silly girl.”

The old woman chided her affectionately, then said, ”Since you’re away, just enjoy yourselves. Don’t overthink things. Nothing’s going to happen on my end. Walker has arranged everything perfectly, so you don’t need to worry.”

Chloe Reed nodded. ”Okay, Grandma. I understand.”

”Alright, if there’s nothing else, I’ll hang up now.”

Chloe Reed was about to end the call when the screen went black. Her grandmother was certainly quick on the draw.

Chloe Reed was taken aback for a moment, but she quickly shrugged it off. She put her phone away and gazed out the window.

Her gaze grew distant and her features relaxed, her expression placid.

Walker Grant gazed at her. ”What’s on your mind?”

Chloe Reed shook her head. ”Nothing. Just enjoying this moment of peace.”

But a complex emotion flickered in the depths of Walker Grant’s eyes. He lowered his gaze slightly, saying nothing.

The food consisted of local specialties, which suited Chloe Reed’s palate quite well. By the time they finished their meal, it was already evening.

The two of them strolled through the streets. A market was just ahead, so they walked over, browsing the many local artisanal goods and buying a few trinkets.

But as they walked, Chloe Reed suddenly felt as if someone was staring at her. The gaze was so cold it made her back stiffen. She instinctively turned to look, but she only saw the usual passersby. She couldn’t find the owner of that gaze.

She blinked, confused. ’Was it my imagination?’

But she quickly dismissed the thought.

Someone was definitely staring at her, because she had felt this exact sensation before.

Chloe Reed turned to tell Walker Grant, but the man was no longer by her side!

Her pupils constricted as a sense of dread washed over her!

”Walker Grant?”

She began to shout his name, desperately searching for him in the surrounding crowd.

But pedestrians kept streaming past, and there was still no sign of Walker Grant.

Chloe Reed pulled out her phone, her lips pressed into a thin line as she dialed his number.

The line just rang and rang, unanswered.

Her fingers tightened around her phone. When the call automatically disconnected, her heart sank completely.

’He was really gone.’

’With so many people around, all tourists... Something must have happened to him!’
