Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce

Chloe Reed: ”...”

She gave him a speechless look, then scoffed. ”Walker Grant, you’re not hiding something from me, are you? Rushing me onto a plane like this... were you afraid I’d find out?”

Hearing her, Walker Grant raised an eyebrow, his dark eyes fixed on her. ”What could I possibly have to hide from you now? Everything before was a misunderstanding. I’ve learned my lesson, and I’ll never make the same mistake again.”

But Chloe Reed countered, ”This is about Iris, isn’t it? You already know her whereabouts, don’t you? But you made some kind of deal with William Quinn, which is why you won’t tell me or Nathaniel.”

She was so calm and incisive, she had somehow managed to guess most of the truth.

Walker sighed to himself. ’My Chloe... she really has grown so much.’

But he really couldn’t tell her.

Her safety was at stake.

Since he’d made a deal, he had to honor it.

Besides, Iris wouldn’t come to any harm in William Quinn’s hands.

William Quinn was obsessed with Iris, practically to the point of madness. How could he possibly bear to see her get hurt?

And he couldn’t tell her any of that.

”I really don’t know where Iris is,” Walker Grant said calmly. ”Nathaniel hasn’t fully recovered. I can’t let him take that risk. Going abroad would be life-threatening for him.”

He gazed at her. ”Chloe, I really just want to take a trip with you and relax. We’ve been through too much lately, and things have been so tense. We need to properly unwind, especially since we don’t know what we’ll have to face when we get back.”

Hearing his words, Chloe Reed’s heart sank. In the future, she would have to face Vera Holloway.

The treasured daughter of a top-tier, influential family.

’Could she possibly win against her?’

She lowered her gaze slightly, suddenly feeling that he had a point.

’We’re already here, might as well enjoy the present.’

’After all, she stood almost no chance against Vera Holloway.’

’It would be a total waste to die having experienced nothing, right?’

Having come to this realization, Chloe Reed leaned back and closed her eyes again. ”Wake me when we get there.”

”Alright,” Walker Grant replied.

He gazed at her face greedily, wanting to go over, caress her, and kiss her. But, afraid of annoying her, he forced himself to hold back.

He had been constantly trying to make amends, constantly asking her to get back together with him.

But time waits for no one, and now Vera Holloway had shown up.

’That woman is a real lunatic.’

Walker Grant tore his gaze away and looked out the window. Listening to the roar of the engines, his expression grew increasingly cold and harsh.

...

The plane landed at the airport in City S. They checked into a guesthouse near a desert scenic area, a building with a distinct local character. The only downside was the strong, sandy winds and the dry air.

Chloe Reed emerged from her room with a scarf wrapped around her head and sunglasses on. As she felt the sun on her skin, she found it wasn’t as scorching as she’d imagined. In fact, it was pleasantly warm and comfortable.

Walker Grant walked over and said, ”I booked a restaurant nearby. Let’s go eat first. This would be a good time for you to call your grandmother.”

”Mm.”

Chloe Reed agreed.

At the restaurant, while waiting for their food to be served, Chloe Reed video-called her grandmother.

The call connected quickly. Her grandmother’s wrinkled face appeared on the screen, with Aunt Woods, who had been taking care of her, standing beside her.

”Grandma.”

The old woman on the screen paused for a few seconds before her brow furrowed. ”Where have you gone off to?”

Chloe Reed simply handed the phone to Walker Grant. ”You tell her.”

Walker Grant: ”?”
