Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce

As she spoke, tears began to fall from the corners of the old woman’s eyes.

She reached up to wipe them away, sighed, and continued, ”So, Chloe, I don’t have any other wishes. We were mother and daughter, after all, and I suppose this is as far as our connection was meant to go. Just... make sure I don’t have to see her again.”

Chloe Reed reached out to wipe the tears for her, her own heart aching with sorrow. ’Grandma is just too kind,’ she thought.

’No matter how much Autumn Linton regrets it, the fact is she poisoned her own mother. That’s something that can’t be undone. Even if she died ten thousand times, it wouldn’t be enough to atone for what she’s done!’

’If it weren’t for Grandma, where would that woman even be?’

’And yet she sided with outsiders to bully her own mother.’

The old woman’s dry palm rested on her hair, stroking it gently. She spoke slowly, ”Chloe, they did raise you, after all. Even if they’ve done so many wrong things, for the sake of the kindness they showed in bringing you up, don’t do anything more to them, alright?”

The Reed Group had already gone bankrupt, and Charles Reed and Autumn Linton’s lives were a far cry from what they once were. It wouldn’t take much effort now—just a small push—and the rest of their lives could be made into a living hell.

But the old woman didn’t want Chloe Reed to do that.

Simply not seeing them again would be enough.

She wanted Chloe Reed to always maintain a pure heart, not to let her eyes be clouded by hatred.

Chloe Reed lowered her gaze slightly and nodded. ”Okay. I’ll listen to you.”

’Grandma is so good to me, of course I have to listen to her. Besides, I don’t want to see Charles Reed and Autumn Linton right now either. It would be best if they never showed their faces to me again.’

”I really am a bit tired,” the old woman sighed. ”After talking so much, I feel sleepy. I’m going to take a nap.”

”Okay, I’ll stay with you,” Chloe Reed nodded.

”Oh, by the way.”

The old woman had just lain down when she suddenly gripped Chloe’s hand. ”Don’t blame Ann. That child meant well, she just doesn’t understand the situation. I actually quite like her. Let her continue to stay here and keep me company.”

Hearing this, Chloe Reed’s lips curved into a smile. ”Mm, I know. I don’t blame her.”

’Annie York is still young, after all, not even twenty yet. Of course she wouldn’t understand all these complicated matters.’

’At her age, she should be on a college campus, enjoying her university days to the fullest, not working here as a caregiver and a maid.’

That was why Chloe Reed was exceptionally patient with Annie York.

Only then did the old woman close her eyes, reassured, and slowly drift into a deep sleep.

Chloe Reed dozed off for a little while by the bedside. When she opened her eyes and saw her grandmother’s warm, loving face, some of the sorrow in her heart lifted.

She quietly left the room. It was already evening, and the housekeeper came to tell her that dinner was ready.

However, Walker Grant was nowhere to be seen in the living room.

Chloe Reed asked casually, ”Where is he?”

The housekeeper replied, ”Mr. Grant went out two hours ago.”

After a pause, she asked, ”Should I call Mr. Grant and ask him to come back for dinner?”

Chloe Reed shook her head. ”No, that’s alright. I’ll go get Grandma. Let’s start dinner.”

”Alright.”

As she helped the old woman out of the room, her grandmother subconsciously looked for Annie York. Not seeing her in the living room, she asked anxiously, ”Chloe, where’s Ann?”

Chloe Reed was also puzzled and looked toward the housekeeper. ”Where is Annie York?”

The housekeeper said, ”Oh, forgive me, it completely slipped my mind. I forgot to tell you. Annie York asked for some time off a little while ago. She said there was a family emergency and she had to go home, but she’ll be back later.”

Chloe Reed nodded in understanding.

The old woman paused for a moment, then turned to her. ”Chloe, should you give her a call and ask what’s wrong?”
