Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce

The butler: ”Understood.”

Chloe Reed went to her grandmother’s room and sat right beside her. ”Grandma,” she said, ”Annie York is gone. Should I find another girl around her age to keep you company?”

Her grandmother paused for a few seconds, then gave her a reproachful look. ”And what about you? What are you so busy with? Why don’t you keep me company?”

Chloe Reed was speechless. ”...”

She felt a wave of embarrassment and forced a smile. ”Of course I can keep you company. I was just worried you’d get tired of seeing me all the time.”

Her grandmother reached out and poked her lightly. ”You and your nonsense. How could I ever get tired of you?”

Chloe Reed smiled. ”In that case, I’ll be the one to keep you company from now on. I’ll chat with you and go on walks with you every day.”

”That’s more like it.” Her grandmother picked up her teacup, took a sip, and her eyes narrowed slightly. Then she asked, ”What about your studio? Are you still planning to run it?”

Chloe Reed lowered her gaze slightly. ”I’m putting it on hold for now.”

”Then what are you doing now?” Her grandmother gave her a puzzled look. ”Just staying home all day, watching Walker Grant try to win you back?”

Chloe Reed just smiled. ”It’s not so bad, is it?”

”Absolutely not.”

But her grandmother shook her head. ”You need to have your own life, your own career. It’s fine to accept how well he treats you, but you can’t become completely dependent on it. Over time, you’ll lose your sense of self. Letting a man dictate your life... that’s a miserable way to live.”

Hearing this, Chloe Reed’s eyes lit up. ”Grandma, you’re so right! That’s exactly what I was thinking. It’s just... I can’t go all out just yet. There are still a few things I need to take care of first.”

Her grandmother shook her head. ”So secretive. I have no idea what you’re really up to.”

With that, she simply closed her eyes and turned on an audiobook, deciding not to meddle in Chloe’s affairs any longer.

Chloe Reed stayed with her grandmother for two hours. When Walker Grant returned that evening, he took her by the hand and pulled her into a room.

Chloe Reed’s body tensed. ’He’s going to make a move right here and now,’ she thought. With a cold expression, she said, ”Walker Grant, is there anything else in that brain of yours?”

Walker Grant, who had been about to speak, froze. A flicker of amusement crossed his handsome face. ”Chloe, what did you think I was going to do? What did you think I was thinking about?”

He leaned in closer, his dark, intense eyes fixed on hers. ”You didn’t actually think I wanted to have sex with you, did you?”

Chloe Reed’s brow furrowed. ’I can tell he has something to say,’ she thought. ’But in a situation like this, I can’t just lose my composure, can I?’

She immediately tilted her chin up. ”And haven’t you been just like that before? You have a track record. It’s not crazy for me to be suspicious, is it?”

Walker Grant let out an exasperated laugh, but he didn’t press the issue. It was true, after all. When he was with her, he really did want to be close to her every single moment.

He composed himself and said, ”Want to get away for a bit?”

Hearing this, a look of confusion crossed Chloe’s face. ”Get away?”

”Yeah, on a trip. I’ve put together a few possible itineraries. Take a look and see which one you like.” Walker Grant pulled a folder from his briefcase and handed it to her.

Chloe Reed was completely stunned.

’He dragged me in here so seriously just to talk about this?’

’Of all times... he wants to go on a trip?’
