The Invincible Strongest Student

Chapter 824: Chapter 824: Insatiable Human Greed

Leaning on the soft leather sofa, Lin Tian flipped through the personnel lists on the table.

From the eight deceased to the sixteen severely injured, to the sixty people on shift during the explosion.

The resumes of these people were very similar. Most of them were around thirty years old, with certain work experience.

Trying to find a breakthrough in these resumes was like searching for a needle in a haystack, very unrealistic. At least for Lin Tian, it seemed far-fetched.

So he asked Mrs Li for the electronic files of these people again and sent a copy to Pang Yu. He instructed to investigate these people thoroughly, hoping to find some clues.

At this moment, the door to Bai Shishi’s lounge suddenly opened. Bai Shishi, dressed in professional attire, rubbed her sleepy eyes while still yawning.

Lin Tian glanced at the clock on the wall and asked with a smile, ”It’s only been two hours, how come you’re already awake?”

”I have something on my mind, I wake up after a short nap.” Bai Shishi complained, ”You dared not wake me up even after I fell asleep. It’s all your fault, delaying so many things.”

After speaking, Bai Shishi sat back in her work chair.

”Those trivial matters aren’t as important as your health,” Lin Tian said with a cheeky grin.

”I’m still young! Being tired for a few days is nothing, but I don’t know how much money I lost by just sleeping two hours.” Bai Shishi said with resentment.

Lin Tian pursed his lips slightly and laughed, ”If spending that money allows you to have a good sleep, I think it’s totally worth it! What’s that saying again? A night of passion’s worth a thousand gold pieces!”

”You sweet-talker! Passion, my big foot!” Upon hearing this, Bai Shishi’s heart began to pound, she was flirted with again!

Knock knock knock...

At this moment, the door was inappropriately knocked again.

”Come in.”

Mrs Li entered the room and upon seeing Bai Shishi sitting at the desk, her anxious heart settled down, as if finding the backbone.

As for Lin Tian... she always felt the boss was particularly frivolous! He dared to dismiss such important work as trivial matters!

”Please reschedule the meetings and appointments that we postponed.” Bai Shishi said.

”Understood.” Mrs Li nodded, then continued, ”Mr. Bai, many reporters and the families of the deceased and severely injured employees have gathered downstairs, causing a scene.”

Lin Tian glanced at the documents on the table and asked, ”The reporters and families came together?”

”Yes, almost back-to-back. About fifty reporters and also around fifty family members. Afraid the families might cause trouble and say something inappropriate, we’ve already taken them to the conference room. As for the reporters, they’re still being blocked outside the company.” Mrs Li replied.

Lin Tian walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, looked downwards, and saw that another twenty or thirty journalist cars had parked at the entrance. It’s certain that those reporters are now sitting in their cars, holding hot water bottles for warmth, preparing to ’stakeout’ a key figure, and then score an interview.

Since the incident occurred, many waves of reporters have come, Bai Shishi initially provided the most official explanations, but now, facing so many people, she couldn’t keep up with the explanations, blocking them outside became the best choice.

It’s a cold day, squat if you want, but it’s not us forcing you.

”Let’s go, we’ll first meet the families; if we can calm them, it would be best if they don’t speak carelessly in front of the reporters.” As she spoke, Bai Shishi stood up from her chair.

Mrs Li quickly said, ”Mr. Bai, that’s not okay. Those families are very emotional right now, they are even threatening to tear down our company, if you go there now, who knows if they will do something extreme.”

”It’s fine, also remember what I used to do.” After saying so, Bai Shishi headed out without looking back.

Mrs Li stood there in a daze for a moment before realizing. This Mr. Bai used to be the big sister of the second-largest gang in Kanyue City, would she really be afraid of those people?

”Come on, let’s go and see how capable those who threaten to tear down our company really are.” Lin Tian said, then also walked out.

...

On the eighth floor of Xianglong Building, it used to be the largest card parlor in Kanyue City but has since been converted into an office area.

In the east part of the eighth floor, Bai Shishi still has a large area, converted into a spacious venue. It can be used for annual meetings, press conferences, product launches, and other events.

At this moment, Lin Tian and Bai Shishi sat on stage in the venue, while the families sat below the stage.

A distance of more than ten meters separated them, if these families behaved aggressively, they would definitely be subdued on the spot by the security guards standing by.

Of course, such aggressive behavior was unlikely to happen again because it had already occurred once before, with no fruitful results.

Lin Tian sat on stage looking at these people, aged between thirty and fifty, dressed simply, but with a heavy sense of hostility on their faces.

Among these people, besides the families, there were also a dozen employees from the explosion workshop. The reason they came together was probably to boost morale.

”Bai! You must give us an explanation today!”

”Yes! Give us an explanation!”

Bai Shishi sat in her chair, calmly asked the people below, ”What kind of explanation do you want?”

”Compensation!” someone shouted from the audience.

”That’s right. Eight hundred thousand for the deceased, and between three hundred thousand to six hundred thousand for the severely injured employees,” Bai Shishi said.

”...” The straightforward agreement left these people momentarily speechless.

”No way! My son died so young, how can eight hundred thousand be enough? I want a million!” a middle-aged man shouted loudly.

Bai Shishi glanced at him, smiled and said, ”Uncle, do you know, according to national regulations, this year the one-time compensation for work-related death is only six hundred seventy thousand? I’m giving you eight hundred thousand, over an additional one hundred and twenty thousand, that’s already generous. You’re asking for a million, do you think my money grows on trees?”

Hearing this, the crowd became rowdy, cursing and shouting, ”You’re just flattering yourself! What generosity? People are dead, isn’t it right to pay a bit more? Your money doesn’t grow on trees, but it’s easier than that to come by!”

”Exactly! We won’t leave if you don’t give us a million today!”

”Right! If you kick us out, we’ll make a scene at the parliament office! We’ll go to the palace and cause trouble!”

A pebble causes a thousand ripples, everyone wanted to vent their buried anger at Bai Shishi.

They raised their fists, cursing continuously. But after a while, their voices gradually diminished because Bai Shishi simply ignored them.

There’s a saying, a slap is one-handed and doesn’t sound.

These people, without a response, naturally felt dull. When there’s no amusement, the sound naturally faded away.
