Chapter 178: Fire-breathing Dragon Valley

”Ash, is something big about to happen?” Misty asked.

Ash looked at Misty curiously, ”Why do you ask?”

”If nothing big is happening, why did you ask Tracy to help you transfer Charizard over? You did the same thing last time on Shamouti Island.”

”Oh, you mean that? Here, see for yourself.”

Ash flipped the Johto region travel guide to a certain page and handed it to Misty.

”This is... Charizard Valley?” Misty looked closely at the description in the guide. After a moment, she asked again, ”Ash, are you planning to release Charizard in that valley?”

”Of course not. Charizard is a very important partner of mine. There are no longer any wild Pokémon near Viridian Forest that can help him improve his strength. I had Tracy transfer him over because I want to let him train in the valley.”

The Pokémon Ash left at Professor Oaks Laboratory had already dominated half of Viridian Forest while he was traveling in the Orange Islands. Any wild Pokémon in the forest with any real strength had been defeated by Ash’s Pokémon.

Charizard was the most ruthless one, so much so that whenever he steps into the territory of Viridian Forest now, those wild Pokémon will shrink away. Those who couldn’t hide would Role Play as turtles, focusing entirely on endurance.

Because of this, Charizard’s power improvement entered a very slow phase. Charizard Valley was the most suitable spot Ash could think of for Charizard to grind levels.

”Is that so? Doesn’t that mean Charizard is going to be away for a while?”

”Don’t worry. I checked with Lance. This Charizard Valley is guarded by someone. Whenever I need Charizard in the future, I can contact her and have her transfer him over.”

”Her? The person you’re talking about, is she a mature and beautiful big sister?” Brock revealed a lecherous smile.

”Uh...” Ash was speechless. Has this guy evolved to the point where he can automatically fill in the blanks when listening to others?

Before long, Ash and the others entered a valley.

”This valley is so spectacular!” Misty couldn’t help but exclaim.

”Yeah! Listen, there’s an echo too!” As he said this, Brock shouted excitedly, ”Yo-ho!”

”This is Charizard Valley. The depths of the valley are where the wild Charizard live,” Ash said.

”It seems you are Mr. Ash, the Alliance Inspector that Lance mentioned! I heard from Lance that you have a very strong Charizard?”

At this moment, a woman riding a female Charizard with a flower ornament landed in front of Ash and the others.

”Wow, hello beautiful big sister. My name is Brock. May I ask for your email address? Could I possibly...” Brock revealed a lovesick expression when he saw the woman.

”Honestly, when will you ever get over this bad habit!” Misty impatiently dragged Brock away.

”That’s me, Ms. Liza.” Ash nodded. ”As for Charizard, his strength isn’t as impressive as the one in Lance’s hands.”

Although the Charizard in Lance’s hands isn’t his trump card Pokémon, it is still at Champion-level combat strength. In terms of level, Ash’s Charizard is indeed not its opponent, but in other aspects, it could definitely crush Lance’s Charizard in seconds.

Ash had asked Lance about the matters in Charizard Valley before he got Charizard’s Poké Ball.

Liza leaned in front of Ash and sniffed, saying, ”No, I can smell it. Your Charizard is truly extraordinary. When I heard Lance talk about you, I was looking forward to your arrival.”

”Ms. Liza, you must have been looking forward to my Charizard, right?” Ash was not a lovesick simp like Brock; he knew his own standing.

”That’s right! Alright, hurry up and let me see your Charizard!”

”No problem. Come out, Charizard!” Ash released his Charizard.

”Roar!” As soon as Charizard appeared, he shot a stream of fire into the sky.

Deep in the valley, several streams of fire were also shot into the sky, clearly responding to Charizard.

After seeing those flames, a burning fighting spirit ignited in Charizard’s eyes.

After such a long time of growth, Ash’s Charizard’s height was already over 3 meters, and his flames were approaching the sacred fire of Ho-Oh.

”This physique, this flame—it is indeed much stronger than the Charizard belonging to that guy Lance. He is a good child; I can tell that your training level, Ash, is quite extraordinary.”

It was the first time Liza had seen a Charizard with such a large physique outside of Charizard Valley, and the temperature of his flames was also stronger than the vast majority of Charizards in the valley. The more Liza looked, the more satisfied she became. Charizard’s condition was much better than she had expected.

Suddenly, the two gems worn around Charizard’s neck caught Liza’s attention: ”Ash, the things worn around your Charizard’s neck are super evolution stones, right?”

”Yes, those two are indeed Charizard’s super evolution stones. Charizard has two super evolution forms: one is the Dragon-type enhanced Mega Charizard X, and the other is the Fire-type enhanced Mega Charizard Y,” Ash explained.

The data on Charizard’s Mega Evolution had long been perfected into relevant papers, but Ash had never asked Professor Oak to publish them. Liza’s family had guarded Charizard Valley for generations; Ash would never believe that she didn’t know Charizard could Mega Evolve.

”Two forms! As expected, Charizard is the best!”

Liza said, ”Ash, although your Charizard is well-trained, the rules of Charizard Valley state that those who want to enter need to pass a test. Do you and your Charizard have any issues with that?”

”No matter what the test is, I believe my Charizard won’t lose. Right, Charizard?”

Ash was full of confidence in his Charizard. If he couldn’t even pass this little test, he would really be doing a disservice to the special training given by the ’Shinny Fearow’ brand photographer.

The Rainbow Feather played a huge role in improving Charizard’s strength.

Charizard nodded. He didn’t think he would lose to his wild counterparts. After all, from the time he was a Charmander until now, it hadn’t even been a full year. He still had a lot of untapped potential.

”Alright then, the first test to enter Charizard Valley is to ride your Charizard and follow me!”

Liza paused and looked at Misty and Brock, saying, ”As for you two, if you don’t mind, you can squeeze into this hot air balloon.”

Her Charizard was carrying a hot air balloon filled with things, which stopped in front of Brock and Misty.

Looking at the basket of the hot air balloon piled full of items, Brock asked, ”What are these things?”

”Oh, I forgot. These are supplies I just went to purchase. If you shift them around, there should still be room for the two of you.”

Liza had actually gone out to purchase supplies and happened to see Ash and the others on her way back. According to the information provided by Lance, it was a three-person travel group, with one of them carrying a Pikachu and an Eevee.

Ash patted Charizard’s belly and said, ”Charizard, let Ms. Liza and her Charizard witness our strength!”

After saying this, he took Pikachu and Eevee and climbed onto Charizard’s back.

Charizard flapped his wings slightly and caught up with Liza’s Charizard.

”Ash, not bad! Since you can keep up, I’m going to speed up. Lisa!”

As Liza’s voice fell, the wings of the Charizard she was riding flapped more vigorously, and its speed increased by more than two levels.

Ash pointed out a direction for Charizard and then told him to accelerate: ”Charizard, full speed ahead!”

Charizard stopped holding back and transformed into an orange-red afterimage, instantly overtaking Liza who was leading the way.

With Aura, Ash could sense where the most Charizard were in the valley, so naturally, he wasn’t afraid of getting lost.

In the end, this test of speed naturally ended with Charizard in the lead by more than ten minutes.
