Divine Emperor Demon Emperor

Chapter 53: Chapter 53: Deceiving Ye Yunlong

With the two major powers gone, Ye Yunlong turned and walked through the courtyard gate. He wasn’t particularly worried about them; his mind was now focused on the inheritance Lin Yun possessed.

The next day, Lin Yun was summoned to the main hall by Ye Yunlong. Five days had passed since his arrival at the Death Row Shelter, and this was the first time Ye Yunlong had called for him.

Seeing Lin Yun approach, Ye Yunlong said with a smile, ”Lin Yun, are you getting used to life here?”

Looking at Ye Yunlong’s gentle smile, Lin Yun knew exactly what he was thinking. On the surface, however, he maintained a look of immense gratitude as he replied, ”Thank you for your concern, Lord Ye. To be honest, as long as my safety is guaranteed, I am more than satisfied.”

Looking at Lin Yun, Ye Yunlong nodded in satisfaction. This was exactly the attitude he wanted to see.

”Haha! It’s good that you’re settling in,” Ye Yunlong said magnanimously with a laugh. ”Don’t you worry, Lin Yun. I’ll handle the two major powers myself. All you have to do is stay here and set your mind at ease.”

But the moment he finished speaking, his tone changed. ”However, Lin Yun... the two major powers are determined to get their hands on you, and it’s all because of that inheritance you possess. Yanhuang Academy and the Wind Forest Sect are incredibly powerful. They each have several Primordial Ocean Realm experts. If you want to be truly safe, I think it’s best to hand over the inheritance.”

Hearing this, Lin Yun sneered inwardly. ’So the fox finally shows its tail.’

Though he understood perfectly well, Lin Yun put on a show of deep contemplation. Seeing this, Ye Yunlong didn’t interrupt, waiting patiently for his answer.

After a long moment, Lin Yun finally looked up at Ye Yunlong. ”What you say makes sense, Lord Ye. But you must know that even if I hand over the inheritance, the two major powers won’t just let me go.”

Hearing this, and seeing the look on Lin Yun’s face, Ye Yunlong’s smile widened. In a gentle voice, he added, ”How about this? If you trust me, you can give the inheritance to me. I will present it to the two major powers and ensure they leave you alone. What do you say?”

’Ye Yunlong was ecstatic. I’ve been acting for so long just to get him to lower his guard, and now it’s finally about to pay off. Once he hands over the inheritance, his life or death will have nothing to do with me.’

”Of course I trust you, Lord Ye. But when I obtained the inheritance, Lord Thunder God placed a Restriction on it. Because my Realm is too low, I can only cultivate the First Layer Technique. The Restriction on the rest of the Cultivation Technique can only be removed after my strength increases,” Lin Yun said, feigning embarrassment.

Hearing this, Ye Yunlong considered it. ’This sort of thing isn’t rare. Some legacies do have Restrictions placed on them to prevent the inheritor from rushing their progress. They can only be accessed once one’s strength reaches a certain level.’

”Then when can this Restriction be removed?” Ye Yunlong asked, his gaze fixed on Lin Yun. At that moment, his entire aura shifted, as if he were trying to see right through him.

The pressure from a Primordial Ocean Realm expert was immense. An ordinary person would have surely cracked by now. But Lin Yun, having lived two lives and endured a thousand-year trial, possessed an incomparably resolute Mental Realm.

Facing Ye Yunlong’s intense questioning, Lin Yun calmly replied, ”To lift all the Restrictions, I would probably need to reach the Ninth Layer of the Opening Realm. The Second Layer, however, can be unlocked once I reach the Fifth Layer of the Opening Realm.”

Ye Yunlong could find no flaw in Lin Yun’s expression or movements. Being highly confident in his own judgment, he was mostly convinced by Lin Yun’s story.

’Since I can’t get the whole inheritance at once,’ Ye Yunlong began to reconsider, ’is it really worth keeping Lin Yun around? After all, if it’s just some ordinary legacy, it hardly seems worth the effort.’

Just as Ye Yunlong was weighing his options, a single sentence from Lin Yun instantly solidified his decision.

”Lord Ye, the inheritance from the Thunder God Hall is called the Thunder God Technique. It’s a Celestial Level Lower Tier Cultivation Technique, and it even includes a Celestial Level Lower Tier Body Technique Martial Skill.”

The moment Lin Yun spoke, Ye Yunlong’s resolve was set in stone. He had to protect Lin Yun, no matter the cost. ’A Celestial Level Lower Tier Cultivation Technique and Body Technique... This is a monumental inheritance!’

’I am a Primordial Ocean Realm expert, yet my Cultivation Technique is merely Profound Level Upper Tier, and my Body Technique is only Earth Level Middle Tier. If I could get my hands on a complete set of Celestial Level Lower Tier techniques, breaking through beyond the Primordial Ocean Realm wouldn’t be impossible! At that point, aside from those few old monsters in the Death Row Shelter, who could possibly be my match?’

Though his heart pounded with excitement, Ye Yunlong maintained his smile. ”Is that so? In that case, give me the First Layer Technique first. I’ll go negotiate with the two major powers. Don’t worry, I, Ye Yunlong, will definitely keep you safe.”

Ye Yunlong had taken the bait completely. Lin Yun sneered inwardly. ’You think you’ve played me? It’s not yet clear who’s playing whom.’

”Very well,” Lin Yun said. ”But Lord Ye, I have two conditions.”

Hearing Lin Yun had conditions, Ye Yunlong motioned for him to speak. In his eyes, Lin Yun was now an invaluable treasure.

”First, Lord Ye must guarantee my complete safety, at least while I’m within Mysterious City. After all, I can’t spend my entire life cooped up in this shelter.”

”Second, you must provide me with cultivation resources. Only by advancing my Cultivation can I lift the Restrictions on the inheritance.”

Ye Yunlong agreed to Lin Yun’s two conditions almost without a second thought. He was confident he could protect Lin Yun within Mysterious City; after all, with the Death Row Shelter’s presence, the two major powers would surely have to give him some face.

As for the second condition, even if Lin Yun hadn’t mentioned it, Ye Yunlong would have ensured he broke through to the Ninth Layer of the Opening Realm as quickly as possible. The inheritance depended on it.

”Fine. I agree to both your conditions,” Ye Yunlong said cautiously, ”but you must give me the First Layer of the inheritance first.” He wanted to verify its authenticity.

Lin Yun had anticipated this. He claimed he would write down the Cultivation Technique for the inheritance that very night and would hand it over to Ye Yunlong in the morning.

The arrangement was made, and both men were delighted. Ye Yunlong believed he was getting the inheritance, while Lin Yun had successfully bound Ye Yunlong to his cause.

’A Celestial Level Technique...’ The smile on Ye Yunlong’s face grew even more brilliant at the thought of obtaining it tomorrow.

Back in his room, Lin Yun began to write out the Celestial Level Cultivation Technique.

Of course, the Technique wasn’t real. Lin Yun had already thought it through. He cultivated both the Demon Emperor Technique and the War God Technique. He would alter and merge parts of these two Cultivation Techniques, guaranteeing that anyone who practiced it would suffer a fatal cultivation deviation.

As they were both Unparalleled Techniques, just merging some of the most superficial aspects of the War God Technique and the Demon Emperor Technique would create something that was, on the surface, no weaker than an ordinary Celestial Level Technique.

But as for its actual viability..........

In just a single hour, Lin Yun finished fabricating the Cultivation Technique for the First Layer. He even gave it a name: the sham Thunder God Technique.

’Done. Even a Primordial Ocean Realm expert would never see the flaws in this.’ After carefully checking it over, Lin Yun was certain that even an expert of Ye Yunlong’s caliber would be completely unable to tell it was a fake.
