Reincarnated as a Mosquito, I Sucked the Reborn Empress to Tears

Chapter 186: Chapter 186: Mu Chen: I couldn’t beat a mushroom, and I can’t even beat you, a cockroach?

In the game plaza.

“Huh, where’s the big cockroach?”

“Holy shit, that Eternal Night Monarch skin is… that Empress!”

“The Only Beast Taming Empress in Ancient and Modern Times, she’s finally online again!”

The one wearing the Eternal Night Monarch set was, of course, Gu Yuexi.

The moment she appeared, she drew the attention of everyone in the plaza!

After all, the last time this ID appeared, it had set off a storm in the Spirit Martial Eternity tournament!

However, after waiting a little longer, the crowd felt that something was off:

“Hey, where’s that big pink mushroom? How come it hasn’t shown up yet?”

“Yeah, where’s that damn mushroom!”

Though the Empress was cool and her skin was flashy, the crowd seemed more interested in the “Evil Giant Mushroom.”

After all, that mushroom had been the star of the last tournament!

“Didn’t they say that mushroom was a boss created by the game officials, not really this ’Empress’s’ Contracted Beast?”

“But some people said it wasn’t a boss, that it was real…”

“What a shame we didn’t get to see the big mushroom!”

“Why don’t we go ask this ’Empress’ what’s up with the big mushroom?”

Gu Yuexi almost lost her composure listening to the crowd’s chatter about the big mushroom.

’I, the Empress, am standing right here, and you’re all talking about some pink mushroom? Don’t you guys have your own?!’

’To hell with your big mushroom!’

’Hmph, it’s all that mosquito’s fault for stealing my thunder last time. This time, I will reforge the glory of the Empress!’

Gu Yuexi opened the system panel and decisively started matchmaking!

…

Meanwhile, Chu Sheng had already entered the tournament arena.

[Your realm has been detected as Fourth-Grade Early Stage! Matching you with an opponent…]

The arena mode for Contracted Beasts was different from that of humans. Humans could choose to fight against either a Contracted Beast or another human, but Contracted Beasts had no choice and could only be randomly matched.

While waiting for a match, Chu Sheng glanced at the leaderboards:

His forty-fight winning streak from last time, which should have been on the Third-Grade Late Stage leaderboard, had been temporarily removed by the officials.

The top spot on the Fourth-Grade Early Stage leaderboard was a tie between Mu Chen and another person, both with an eighteen-fight winning streak.

Now, Chu Sheng was also competing in the Fourth-Grade Early Stage bracket.

Initially, the system would match you with opponents of similar strength, then gradually increase the difficulty. You could even be matched against opponents in the Fourth-Grade Middle or Late Stages. The matchmaking mechanics were the same for all other realms.

[Ding! An opponent has been found for you.]

[The duel will begin in three seconds.]

A figure appeared opposite Chu Sheng. Their ID was “Her Personal Power Bank,” and they were wearing a standard-issue outfit provided by the system.

Chu Sheng couldn’t be bothered with small talk. As soon as the three-second invincibility period ended, a red Feather Blade shot out, instantly piercing the opponent’s brow.

“Her Personal Power Bank” disappeared from the arena and returned to the game plaza before they could even react:

“Wait, what happened? How did I get back here?”

“What did I just see? A giant mantis… one-shot me? I didn’t even have time to feel any pain?”

…

[First victory. Now matching you with your next opponent.]

These days, Chu Sheng only needed a single Soul-Bursting Flame Feather to kill an ordinary Fourth-Grade Middle Stage opponent.

Therefore, the next dozen or so opponents he was matched with were all instantly killed!

’This is boring. This level of competition is no way to test my true strength.’

’Keep going!’

When he reached a fourteen-fight winning streak, the system finally upped the difficulty, matching him with a Fourth-Grade Late Stage opponent.

Chu Sheng thought for a moment. ’Well then… Soul-Bursting Flame Feather Plus Edition.’ It was still an instant kill!

Fifteen-fight winning streak. Keep going!

Meanwhile, on the other side.

Having entered the Crucible/Sea of Consciousness Third Transformation bracket, Gu Yuexi was doing the exact same thing as Chu Sheng.

Opponents of the same realm were no match for her at all; she instantly killed every single one!

This time, Gu Yuexi planned to challenge the winning-streak record here as quickly as possible!

…

…

In the game plaza stood a massive leaderboard, displaying the real-time winning-streak rankings for every realm.

Soon, someone noticed something unusual on the leaderboard.

“What the hell?”

“What’s with this ’HavocFirePong13’? How did they suddenly shoot into the top two for the Fourth-Grade Realm with a fifteen-fight winning streak?!”

“Havoc-what? Isn’t that a bot name?”

“No way, is the system pulling some crap again? That makes no sense! The system wouldn’t create a bot account to break a record, would it?”

“Wait, look! There’s another one next to it!”

“This ’Ancient and Modern First Beast Taming Empress’ in the Third Transformation Realm is climbing the ranks so fast, too! She’s at eleven… no, a twelve-fight winning streak!”

“We’ll know if they’re bots if we go spectate.”

You could spectate in the arena. All you had to do was click on a friend’s name or a name on the leaderboard.

“I’ll go watch this Empress!”

“Then I’ll go watch this HavocFirePong13 and see if the system is really up to something!”

More and more people in the plaza heard the news, and many chose to start spectating.

In the arena where Chu Sheng was, more and more people began appearing in the circular spectator stands.

“Whoa, so this is ’HavocFirePong13’? Why is it a giant cockroach!”

“I saw him in the plaza just now! He’s only been online for a little over ten minutes, how does he already have a fifteen-fight winning streak? That’s impossible!”

“A bot. It has to be a super-bot created by the system!”

“Heh, calm down. We’ll know if it’s a bot soon enough.”

Most of the onlookers suspected that Chu Sheng was a bot planted by the system!

Inside the arena, Chu Sheng waited for his next opponent. As his winning streak grew, the matchmaking time became longer and longer.

Finally.

[Ding! Successfully matched with the next opponent.]

Chu Sheng was itching for a fight. He looked across the arena… huh? ’Is that someone I know?’

’Is that… the guy from last time, Mu Chen?’

On the other side.

This was Mu Chen’s first arena match of the day.

Ever since his humiliating loss to the big pink mushroom, Mu Chen hadn’t logged on again. But recently, he’d had a major breakthrough. His realm, which had been approaching the Fourth-Grade Middle Stage, had leaped all the way to the Fourth-Grade Late Stage!

With this huge leap in strength, he had regained his confidence and decided to log on… to redeem himself!

He entered the matchmaking bracket for the Fourth-Grade Late Stage and was teleported into this arena.

“Come on! Let’s see who my first opponent is. You! You will be the first stepping stone for me, Mu Chen, to prove myself!”

Mu Chen took a deep breath, opened his eyes, and looked at his opponent…

Huh?

A big, black, shiny cockroach?

’Seriously, are there any normal people in this game?’

’Why is it another one of these freaks? Is this damn matchmaking system screwed up or what?!’

Mu Chen’s grand ambitions from a moment ago vanished, replaced by the feeling that he had just eaten shit.

Immediately after, a flame of rage ignited in his heart!

’Fuck, I’m just trying to play a game! How can I get grossed out a second time?’

’If I couldn’t beat that disgusting big mushroom, you think I can’t beat a cockroach?!’
