Reincarnated as a Mosquito, I Sucked the Reborn Empress to Tears

Chapter 174: Chapter 174: The Power of the Celestial Flame

Beast Taming Academy, Simulation Rainforest Area.

A giant cockroach roused itself from a dormant state and then vanished in an instant.

At that same moment, a thousand meters away in the Simulation Ice Mountain Area, the New Roach Battle Treasure appeared out of thin air!

“Success!”

Inside the New Roach Battle Treasure was, of course, Chu Sheng, experimenting with his Instant Teleportation Ability.

For his first use of Instant Teleportation, Chu Sheng attempted a distance of one thousand meters, which consumed about 100 points of his Mental Power.

However, Chu Sheng soon discovered a problem: he could only teleport with precision within the Perception range of his Nether Vision. If he went beyond that range, he could only choose a general direction; the exact landing spot was out of his control.

Nether Vision currently had a perceptive radius of 12,000 meters. That was more than enough for normal use, and he could upgrade it to increase the range.

Once his Mental Power was consumed, it recovered naturally at an extremely slow rate.

Chu Sheng’s current Mental Power was 3,410. This meant that, regardless of how many times he used it, his maximum total distance for Instant Teleportation over a short period was 34,100 meters.

For example:

He could cross over thirty thousand meters in a single leap, or he could teleport 300 meters a hundred times in quick succession!

Of course, under normal circumstances, Chu Sheng wouldn’t teleport that far or that many times. Instant Teleportation consumed Mental Power, and running out of it was an incredibly unpleasant experience.

Using a large amount of Mental Power in rapid succession could also cause side effects like sharp pains in his Spirit.

’Finished testing Boundless Wings. Now to try the Celestial Flame Eye.’

Chu Sheng scanned the nearby snow-covered mountains, his gaze locking onto a massive fir tree.

“Amaterasu!”

With no warning whatsoever, black flames erupted on the trunk of the fir tree! The fire was immensely powerful, spreading rapidly across the entire tree. This species of fir was normally very difficult to ignite, yet it was reduced to ash in a mere ten seconds!

Moreover, even after the tree turned to ash, the Celestial Flame continued to cling to it, only disappearing after the remains had been completely carbonized.

’Damn, this thing packs a punch!’

’But the consumption is a little high!’

The Celestial Flame consumed 100 Mental Power for every second it was active. The dozen or so seconds just now had already cost him over a thousand Mental Power.

’And there’s another drawback in actual combat. It seems the Celestial Flame only persists within my line of sight. It disappears if it leaves my field of vision…’

’Whatever. This is just the most basic version. Once I improve my Fire Realm, these weaknesses and the ability itself should get better.’

’Besides, this weakness would be hard for anyone to spot.’

…

After testing his two new Skills, Chu Sheng was in high spirits.

’Next, it’s time to go win some prizes and show off a little!’

Beast Taming Academy, inside the Martial Arts Tournament Hall.

The “Contracted Beast Record Challenge” was now on its fifth and final day.

But this final day was also the most bustling one, as many powerful Beast Tamers often chose to have their Contracted Beasts make a grand appearance at the very end.

Chu Sheng, piloting the New Roach Battle Treasure, appeared at the entrance of the hall as well.

“Holy shit, isn’t that the giant cockroach someone posted a picture of on the forums a couple of days ago? It actually showed up again!”

“Whoa, a cockroach that big actually exists? I thought it was photoshopped!”

“Heh heh, you know, if you look at it from a different angle, this cockroach is actually kinda cool-looking.”

“Get the hell out of here! I hate cockroaches more than anything!”

“Wait, where’s this cockroach’s master? And what’s it doing here? Don’t tell me it’s planning to enter the Contracted Beast challenge.”

“Enter the challenge? What the hell is a cockroach going to challenge?”

“Honestly, I really want to meet its master. What kind of weirdo are they? Haha.”

As usual, Chu Sheng’s flashy appearance instantly made him the center of discussion.

Some students shied away in disgust, while others, their faces full of curiosity, started taking pictures.

Chu Sheng couldn’t be bothered with them. He had the roach fly up, and his gaze swept across the rows of challenge areas: Spiritual Wisdom, Attack, Mental Power, Defense, Bloodline, and Support Ability.

Over the past four days, countless Contracted Beasts had attempted these challenges, and a top-ten leaderboard was now established for each area.

Chu Sheng couldn’t be bothered to choose. ’I’ll just start from the far left and challenge them all the way to the right.’

’First event, then: Spiritual Wisdom!’

’Heh, isn’t this just a freebie?’

With a chuckle, Chu Sheng steered the New Roach Battle Treasure toward the challenge area on the far left.

A small crowd had gathered at the Spiritual Wisdom Challenge Area, where a few people were queueing for their turn. Chu Sheng didn’t cut; he obediently got in line behind a female student.

“Holy shit, Cai Lili, look what’s behind you.”

“What?”

“Just look.”

The girl in front of Chu Sheng turned her head…

“AHHHH! It’s so… so huge! Such a huge cockroach!”

The girl leaped up and bolted, gone in a flash. She didn’t even bother attempting the challenge.

The commotion quickly drew the attention of the people nearby.

“Damn, that giant cockroach is really here for the challenge!”

“How come I don’t see a master? Did it actually come by itself?”

“If it can come participate on its own, its Spiritual Wisdom can’t be low. Looks like there’s more to this roach than meets the eye.”

Most Contracted Beasts participating in the challenge were brought by their masters, either kept inside a Beast Taming Pouch or walking alongside them. A beast like Chu Sheng’s, showing up to compete on its own without its master, was very rare. No, it was exceedingly rare.

Of course, this was still within the rules. After all, the challenge was focused on the Contracted Beasts themselves.

…

While waiting in line, Chu Sheng observed the situation ahead.

Each challenge area had a large, upright electronic screen displaying the current top-ten records. These leaderboards updated automatically in real time with the challenge results.

The Spiritual Wisdom Area was no different. Chu Sheng glanced at its leaderboard and saw that all of the top ten had achieved Spiritual Wisdom of Top Notch or higher.

The current first place was held by a Celestial Spirit Bird—Top Notch, Five Stars. (Spiritual Wisdom is graded as: Nothingness, Low-Level, Intermediate, High-Level, Top Notch, and Top-Grade. The last six grades are further divided into one to five stars.)

There were five Contracted Beasts ahead of Chu Sheng. Four of them were tested quickly, but none managed to get on the leaderboard.

The Spiritual Wisdom Testing Instrument at the Hong Kong Island University Beast Taming Academy was different from the Comprehensive Tester at Du Nan First Middle School. This one, called the Spirit Rhinoceros Resonance Chamber, was specifically designed to measure a Spirit Beast’s Spiritual Wisdom with much greater precision.

The prevailing view used to be that a Demon Beast’s Spiritual Wisdom was related to its Bloodline, but researchers have recently debunked this, stating that the two are not absolutely correlated.

And this Spirit Rhinoceros Resonance Chamber was developed by that very same expert in Demon Beast research.

Spiritual Wisdom Challenge Area.

The person ahead of Chu Sheng was another girl. She was holding a pure white fox in her arms. After registering, she walked toward the testing instrument.

Following the staff’s instructions, she placed the Little Demon Fox inside the Spirit Rhinoceros Resonance Chamber. After the hatch closed, the chamber would begin collecting the Contracted Beast’s brainwave data. The entire process was painless, and was actually quite comfortable.

“Wang Nan, have you had your Contracted Beast tested before? What’s its Spiritual Wisdom?”

a girl accompanying her asked curiously.

“Of course I have. I already had it tested back in high school!”

“Hmph, my White Nether Spirit Fox’s Combat Ability might be average, but its Spiritual Wisdom is top-tier—Top-Level Five Stars! Now, it might even reach the Top Notch tier, who knows!”

The girl named Wang Nan was full of confidence. It was indeed possible for a Demon Beast’s Spiritual Wisdom to increase as it grew.

About two or three minutes later, the results were out.

The staff member in charge of the test had a look of utter shock:

“My god, we have a new record! Top-Grade One Star! It’s actually Top-Grade One Star Spiritual Wisdom!”

His booming voice attracted everyone nearby. The crowd looked on curiously at the pure white White Nether Spirit Fox!

In the entire Hong Kong Island University Beast Taming Academy, only a handful of Contracted Beasts with Top-Grade Spiritual Wisdom had ever appeared!

It seemed holding this Contracted Beast challenge was the right decision! The goal of the Beast Taming Academy’s upper management in organizing this event was precisely to identify talented Contracted Beasts and invest heavily in their development!

The girl, Wang Nan, was also delighted. She took her White Nether Spirit Fox out of the chamber.

“That’s great! I knew you were the best, Xiaobai!”

“We’ve got the first-place prize in the bag.”

The first-place prize for the Spiritual Wisdom Area was a drop of a Ninth-Grade Demon Beast’s Essence Blood, which was considered extremely precious!

But when Wang Nan confidently stole a glance at the leaderboard, she found that the name at the very top was not her Contracted Beast’s.

It was… New Roach Battle Treasure???
