Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 884: Chapter 884: Notification

Faced with her friend’s disappointment, Lu Fengzhen just tugged at the corners of her mouth.

All her secrets were known to her friend, not daring or able to speak to her family, she could only confide in her.

It wasn’t until it was almost dark that Lu Fengzhen left. She went straight home to cook dinner.

Seeing the chimney smoking at her daughter’s house, Wang Family’s eldest aunt hurried over.

”Mom, stay and eat with me, let’s make some dumplings together.”

”No, your sister-in-law is already cooking. Fengzhen, don’t you think Li Yunqiao is good-looking? At first glance, he looks like a well-educated person.”

”Mom, he’s such a big leader, and he could be my dad’s age.”

”You’re both on second marriages, it’s not easy to find such good conditions.

Okay, maybe I’m just worrying for nothing. He might not even have that kind of thought, and he might look for someone with an official job.”

After saying this, Wang Family’s eldest aunt turned and left, without responding to her daughter’s hospitality.

She was genuinely worried, having given birth to five sons, and only one daughter, who was pampered since childhood.

This child was lovable and understanding from an early age, never giving them much trouble, but as she grew up and started a family, she’s become a source of endless concern.

Lu Fengzhen sat down to boil water, planning to take a bath today, since there was plenty of time.

However, she was thinking about her mother’s, her sister-in-law’s, and Little Ju’s words, dazed.

Is it really impossible for me to live alone? I’m already twenty-eight, when I was younger, I was with him because he treated me well, and after he left, I was truly heartbroken, with no desire to find someone else.

Later, whenever mom tried to set me up, they were all widowers, and I’d have to be a stepmother, taking care of the elderly, so I wasn’t willing.

Gradually getting used to living alone, I felt relaxed and free, making me even more reluctant to find someone else.

But after meeting Mr. Lv, my long-dormant heart finally felt something.

Unrequited love. He rejected me thoroughly.

Thinking of these things, I lost my appetite and added firewood to the stove.

Then I thought of how my brothers brought over this firewood, just like Little Ju said, having no man at home really doesn’t work.

Forget it, let’s just leave it like this for now. Maybe I’ll meet someone who makes my heart flutter? Meanwhile, Li Yunqiao returned home to find his son and daughter-in-law cooking dinner.

After the three of them finished dinner, ”You two wait, I have something to say,” he said.

The two sat back down. ”Dad, what’s up?” Hong Lin asked.

”I went back to my hometown today, the paperwork for Xue’er and Hong Jun’s placement is all done, I handed it to your second uncle today.

Also, Xue’er’s studies are currently very demanding, so I told them to come home for a few days during the New Year holiday.”

”Dad, it’s okay, if need be, I can send the kids to my mom, her place is not far from work, and I can still go back to feed them.”

”How could we let your mother-in-law go through so much trouble? I went back today and saw the maid your second aunt introduced.

She’s not from our village. She’s the Village Chief of Jin Family Village’s cousin, under thirty, and seems like a neat person. She’s living on her own and could work at our place for a few years.”

”Dad, won’t it affect you?” Hong Lin was quite worried.

”Actually, I’ve been looking in the city, but anticipated potential issues, so I wanted to find someone from back home. But your second aunt mentioned it’s all about relations there, so it’d be awkward to speak frankly, so she found someone from an outside village.”

”As long as it doesn’t affect you, that’s what’s important.”

”But this maid has no children of her own, although her mother said she’d teach her.”

Hong Lin’s wife laughed and said, ”Dad, it’s alright, let my mom teach her. Getting a maid is actually best, once the kids are weaned, someone can keep an eye on them.”

”Alright then, maybe in a few days your second uncle will send her over. Let her get used to it first, and we’ll observe, so during the New Year, someone can cook, and you two have been working all year, rest well. We’ll hire help directly.”

Hong Lin and his wife were, of course, willing. They’d been considering this before, but were worried about impacting dad, so they’d held back. Now they wouldn’t have to come home after work to cook anymore, even though when their parents hadn’t divorced, they couldn’t eat right after work either, but then they had their sister cooking.

Now that their sister was considered an educated youth, though she’s back home, they couldn’t always rely on her.

A few days later, Lu Fengzhen was already adept at changing diapers and washing the child, then she started packing her things.

”Fengzhen, if you get bullied outside, just come back,” Aunt Wang truly couldn’t bear to let her go.

”Mom, didn’t you say Li Yunqiao is a good person?” Lu Fengzhen was also reluctant, but to not sadden her mom, she teased her.

”You naughty girl.”

”Mom, don’t worry, I’m all grown up, what can’t I handle? I’ll be just fine.

Mom, let my brothers move the grain back home, leaving it here just attracts mice.”

”No need, we have enough at home.”

”Mom, please listen to me, leaving grain at home makes me uneasy, just take it as my filial piety.”

”You...”

”Mom, all these years I’ve known how my brothers and sisters-in-law have treated me. Don’t worry, I’ll move it over shortly.”

”What if you quit?”

”If I quit, would my brothers and sisters-in-law just watch me starve?”

Aunt Wang thought this made sense, if the grain was left at home, knowing Fengzhen wasn’t around, would they just let her in-laws take it?

Giving it to her family meant if Fengzhen came back, she could decide to return the grain to her, but once it went to her in-laws, it would be like throwing a baozi to a dog—never to return.

”Alright, I’ll find your brothers, and later tell your cousin. Are you leaving tomorrow at dusk?”

”I don’t know, I’ll listen to my cousin’s arrangements, but if it’s too late, I won’t have a place to stay. I can’t stay at Village Chief Li’s, can I?”

”Alright, you pack up, I’ll ask your cousin.”

Lu Fengzhen took all the valuable things with her, and the four hundred yuan was deposited in the bank; it couldn’t be left at home. Not that she didn’t trust her family, but it was for her own retirement, only safe in her own hands.

Aunt Wang found Wang Shulin. ”Auntie, we’re leaving at six o’clock tomorrow morning, taking a horse-drawn carriage, it’ll take less than an hour, and it won’t interfere with Li Yungui taking Fengzhen to the city.”

”Alright, I’ll go back and tell Fengzhen.”

Aunt Wang then went to her five sons, telling them to move the grain at night.

Nighttime was preferred to avoid conflict with her in-laws; they were truly a troublesome family.

”Fengzhen, your cousin said to leave at six tomorrow morning, I’ll have your brothers take you to your cousin’s.”

”No need, my cousin will certainly come to pick me up with a carriage, why make my brothers get up so early?”
