Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 871: Chapter 871: Picking Up and Arriving

After dinner, the two of them cleaned up the kitchen again, storing away the grains, seasonings, and things like that. They double-checked the doors and windows.

”By the way, did you inform the Village Chief?”

”Yes, my brother went in the morning, but Village Chief Wang went to the township. I went in the afternoon, and Village Chief Wang was already back. I told him, brought two pounds of brown sugar, and asked him to help look after the house.”

”Not bad, you’ve grown up and know how to handle things.

Alright, since there are no safety concerns at home, we can leave now. If we’ve forgotten anything, we can come back to get it.”

Jing Chu was holding the remaining eggs. These things don’t last, and Jiang Xinyu didn’t stop her.

Driving at night isn’t easy; the road is bumpy. Jiang Xinyu was eager to return, so the speed was a bit fast.

Zhao Xiaoli sat in the passenger seat, ”Is it okay? Are we going too fast?” Jiang Xinyu spoke, slowing down a bit.

”It’s fine, it’s not too uncomfortable.”

”No worries, this road is really bumpy.”

When the group arrived home, Du Fengying had already prepared dinner: chive, egg, and shrimp skin pockets.

”We’ve already eaten. You all should eat quickly.”

”Aunt Jiang, I want another pocket.” Jing Chu was drooling at the smell.

”You all can have more; I won’t. Eating too much dry food at night is uncomfortable.”

The three of them each ate two palm-sized pockets.

”Aunt Liu, your cooking is delicious.”

”Delicious? Jing Chu, in the future, if you want to eat anything, just tell me, and I’ll make it for you.”

Du Fengying loved girls, especially Jing Chu and Feifei; she genuinely liked them from the heart.

Guodong ate two bowls of millet porridge and ten pockets alone.

After eating, he felt a bit embarrassed looking at Du Fengying.

”Guodong, are you full? There’s still plenty left.”

”Aunt Liu, do you think I ate too much?”

”What’s too much? Young men are in their growing phase now; eating well is good. No worries, your Aunt Jiang and Uncle Wei can afford to take care of you.”

This put the siblings completely at ease. Jing Chu was worried Aunt Liu might resent them, but she very much wanted to stay with Aunt Jiang, even if it meant enduring grievances. It seems there’s nothing to worry about.

”Xiao Li, the hot water is ready. Go freshen up; we don’t need your help here.” Du Fengying quickly stopped Zhao Xiaoli, who was ready to work.

”It’s fine, Sister Du. I shouldn’t have eaten those two pockets; too much food is uncomfortable to digest.”

Jiang Xinyu came out of the room, having just fed the two children. They were quite easygoing, as soon as she went inside, Shi Xian started crying with closed eyes.

”Aunt Jiang, has Shi Xian woken up?”

”He’s awake. When he wakes up, everyone at home knows. Are you all full? In a while, have a bowl of milk powder or malted milk each.”

”Aunt Jiang, let Shi Xian and Tingting drink that.”

”They have enough to drink. In a few days, when we go to the market, let’s see if there’s a milk goat, buy one that produces milk. We no longer raise pigs at home.”

”I’ve been thinking the same, but I don’t know if the brigade will agree? However, Village Chief Wang went to the township today, but he’s said it’s about raising goats. I didn’t ask, as I’m not home at this time.”

”I’ll buy a couple more; you can take them home.

It’s getting late, so everyone should rest. Classes start officially tomorrow; you’ll listen for a day, and then I’ll talk with the two professors, see if they can tutor you separately.”

”Aunt Jiang, I listened to Teacher Zhu Mingbao’s class today, and it was excellent.” Guodong said excitedly.

”It’s good if you like it. Xiao Li, how about you? Do you want to join them?”

”I’d like to join, otherwise it’d be boring to stay.”

”Alright, counting another girl, you are quite lucky; both are professors from prestigious universities.”

Sister Jiang, which class should I go to?” Zhao Xiaoqiang asked.

”There’s an intermediate class; you can try it. Even though you’ve studied before, I hope you’ll relearn everything again.”

”Okay, I understand.”

After freshening up, the four of them went back to their rooms. Jing Chu lay in the warm quilt, her face filled with contentment and laughter.

Although this isn’t home, Jing Chu regarded Jiang Xinyu as her elder. So in her heart, having an elder around felt like being at home.

Zhao Xiaoli lay in a new quilt, sighing, thinking how comfortable a new quilt felt. Unconsciously, she thought of Old Yang, wondered where he might be right now, and when he might return?

She was used to him lying beside her, and now lying alone, not in her home, she felt comfortable, but still missed him.

Touching her bulging belly, she reminisced about her moments with Old Yang, confirming once again her happiness, such deep happiness.

Jiang Xinyu watched over the two children, thinking for a while about Wei Kaiyun, that guy must be thinking about home too, right?

Jiang Xinyu understood him; he truly was a home-loving person. Luckily, both children were with him.

The next day, Jing Chu heard commotion from outside, stayed snuggled in the quilt for a bit, feeling how comfortable it still was before getting up.

She was staying over but still couldn’t sit idly by.

Du Fengying was making a fire; breakfast was chive pockets, plus some pancakes, sorghum rice, red dates, chestnuts, and sweet potato porridge.

”Aunt Du, let me help you make the fire.”

”Sure, Jing Chu, boil some water first; everyone will freshen up when they wake up.” Du Fengying said smilingly.

Jiang Xinyu woke up too, wanted to laze around a bit, but her son was not cooperative, waking up.

”You little rascal, how could you do this? You’re my nemesis.”

The little guy drooled, showing a toothless smile.

She helped them pee, dressed them in thin cotton coats, and then fed them.

”Shi Xian, it’s getting a bit tiring to feed you alone now; you really eat a lot.”

The human heart always has biases. In Jiang Xinyu’s heart, even though she adopted Tingting, Shi Xian was more important.

So the little girl could only have milk powder; there was no other choice.

After feeding the two little ones, she went out to freshen up.

By now, everyone had finished freshening up, and breakfast was about ready.

”Aunt Jiang, Is Shi Xian awake? Can I go see him?”

”Go ahead, he’s playing by himself. Just ate, so he won’t cry.”

Jing Chu entered Jiang Xinyu’s room, seeing pillows lined up on the edge, the two little ones lying on the bed, limbs moving around.

Jing Chu leaned on a pillow, finger reaching out to poke Shi Jing’s little chubby hand.

”Shi Jing, sister is here to see you.”

The little one turned its head, eyes curving into a smile, babbling oh-oh-oh from the mouth, limbs moving even more energetically.

Jing Chu saw this, feeling her heart melting. Truly adorable, her finger gently poking Shi Xian’s chubby hand again.
