Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 859: Chapter 859: Selling Cotton

The number of people talking outside increased, but Jiang Xinyu wasn’t anxious at all. After all, she had already set aside what she needed for her family. Whatever was left in the warehouse would be sold until it was gone.

”Teacher Jiang, Teacher Jiang?”

Jiang Xinyu got up and went out, and when she entered, she saw Ma Gazi calling her.

”Sister-in-law Guiying, is there something you need?”

”Teacher Jiang, I want to buy more cotton. We have nothing at home, and even if we have money now, we can’t buy cotton because we don’t have any tickets.”

”Sister Du, how much cotton is left?”

”Twenty-four pounds.”

”Sister-in-law, how much do you want?”

”I want twenty pounds.”

”Sister Du, have you accounted for what everyone wants?”

”Yes, it’s all accounted for.”

”Then give Sister-in-law Guiying twenty pounds.”

At this moment, a few more people entered, and Du Fengying hurriedly spoke up, ”Everyone, there’s only four pounds left.”

”How come there are only four pounds left? Aren’t there still three bags?”

”You’re late. Everyone in the yard has already decided how much they want, so there are only four pounds left.”

”Why do you all need so much? We haven’t even bought any yet. You can’t take it all.”

”Shuanzi’s wife, you sure have a big mouth. This isn’t your stuff. When buying things, there’s always a first-come, first-served basis. Who told you to come late?”

”No way, I must buy cotton today.”

Qu Xiaoli didn’t bother to pay her any attention, weighing the cotton according to order for everyone.

Next to her was a basket full of money.

”Give me ten pounds.”

”Cui Lan, I’ve already told you there’s none left,” Qu Xiaoli said, frowning.

”There are only five people in this yard. Someone must have bought a lot. Can’t someone voluntarily take a little less?”

Jiang Xinyu stood aside watching, thinking to herself that this must be the real owner of the cotton, right?

”Cuihua, hurry up and go home.”

”I won’t leave. I’m here to buy cotton.”

”I’ve already told you there’s none for you,” Qu Xiaoli’s voice rose. She really didn’t want to lower herself to this kind of nonsense, but Cuihua truly had no sense.

Cuihua was a little afraid of Qu Xiaoli. Seeing her really getting annoyed, she mumbled, ”But isn’t there still four pounds?”

”If the remaining four pounds are for you, there are several other people who came in with you.”

”Sister-in-law, just don’t sell the remaining four pounds, to avoid making everyone upset.”

Upon hearing Jiang Xinyu’s suggestion, Qu Xiaoli nodded. She didn’t bother with Cuihua anymore.

Su Cuihua was momentarily stunned, turned to Jiang Xinyu and asked, ”Teacher Jiang, what do you mean by this?”

”Don’t you understand? This cotton is mine, and I don’t want to sell it anymore. It’s just that simple. Have you got it now? And don’t shout and scream in my house. Don’t scare my kid.”

Su Cuihua was so angry that her chest heaved up and down; this was condescending.

”Ha, you can sell it to others, but not to me? What is this about? Looking down on me?”

”It’s not as serious as you say. It’s just that there’s not much left, and so many people came, it’s difficult to give it to anyone.

This cotton was originally reserved for our own use, but since everyone came over, I had no choice but to sell to a few families.

But I don’t want to get angry because of this, so I might as well not sell it.”

”I’m just asking why you won’t sell it to me?” Su Cuihua shouted noisily.

”Get out.”

The yard went silent, everyone watching.

”You really talk to me like this?”

”I told you to get out.”

”You outsider, you dare talk to me like that?”

At this point, Qu Xiaoli put down the scale and came over, ”Get lost.”

”You all? I know you’re all trying to please this outsider. But you should know that I’m the one from this village.”

”Su Cuihua, get lost quickly. If you say one more word, I’ll go talk to your man.”

This hit Su Cuihua right where it hurt. She glared angrily at Jiang Xinyu before turning to leave.

The yard was still silent.

”Sister-in-law, give everyone what they’ve ordered.”

”Okay, Teacher Jiang, don’t take it to heart.”

”It’s fine. Like I said, I’m not targeting anyone, it’s just that there’s none left.

Sister-in-law, if people come in, just tell them right away there’s none left, don’t make them wait.”

”Okay, I got it.”

Yu Guiying looked anxiously at Jiang Xinyu, ”Teacher Jiang, did I cause you trouble?”

”Sister-in-law Guiying, what does this have to do with you? If you’re worried, once it’s weighed, you can leave it at my house and come pick it up tonight.”

”Teacher Jiang, I’m not afraid of anything. Su Cuihua wouldn’t dare do anything to me. I’m just worried that I asked for too much and caused you trouble.”

”It doesn’t matter. Alright, my baby is still awake, I’m heading back in.” Honestly, Jiang Xinyu didn’t want to drag the conversation with her.

After a quarter of an hour, all the cotton was sold out. Du Fengying brought in the basket. ”Xiao Jiang, here’s all the money. Keep it safe.”

”We really sold quite a bit.”

Upon returning home, Qu Xiaoli found Li Yungui there. ”Husband, that Su Cuihua is really something. She came late and there was no cotton left, and she started making a fuss with Teacher Jiang so I chased her away.”

”She made a scene with Xiao Jiang?”

”Yes, and she said Teacher Jiang is an outsider. I really felt like giving her a slap.”

”You should talk to her mother-in-law if you get the chance. I’ll also have a word with Shuanzi. She’s got too much time on her hands.”

”Teacher Jiang has quite the temper too, she went head-to-head with Su Cuihua.”

”Someone as capable as that is bound to have a temper. Xiao Jiang used to be the deputy factory director of a textile factory with over a thousand people.”

”I guessed as much.”

”Alright then, hurry up and make dinner. Big brother is coming over tonight.”

”Coming to haul the corn sheller?”

”Yes, they’re taking all one hundred units, and now I’m just waiting for Xiao Wei to return. What to do next?”

”Can’t you ask Teacher Jiang?”

”Teacher Jiang told me to wait for Xiao Wei to return. I actually want to let ten more people learn how to make corn shellers.”

”Have you decided who? Make sure it’s not someone unreliable, you don’t want to offend anyone.”

”I know.”

Qu Xiaoli put away the cotton and then went to make dinner. Since her brother-in-law was coming over, she decided to make dumplings with cabbage filling and added some animal fat and minced a whole head of garlic, which made for a great taste.

Li Xue helped make the dumplings, so by the time Li Yunqiao came over, all the dumplings were done.

”Dad, are they tasty?”

”Very tasty.” Li Yunqiang replied, smiling at his young son.

”We get to eat like this often now. Dad, do you think I’ve grown taller?”

Li Yunqiao nodded, ”You have grown taller, and heavier too. It’s clear your second aunt often makes delicious food for you.”

”Isn’t that right? My second aunt’s cooking is delicious. I love it. I can eat two big bowls of dumplings at a meal. I’m the one who’s grown the fastest, even more than my second brother.”
