Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 867: Chapter 867: Dismissal

Sister-in-law Wu thought for a good while before entering Zhao Xiaoli’s room.

”Xiaoli, I won’t do it anymore.”

”It’s okay, just pack your things. I’ll give you your salary tomorrow morning. Leave this place.”

”Xiaoli, you’ve grown accustomed to me. Besides, I really know I was wrong, and I absolutely won’t do it again.”

”It’s no use, Sister-in-law Wu. In my heart, Jing Chu and Guodong are the same as Xiaoqiang. I won’t distance myself from them for any other reason. That’s it, go on, let’s end things on good terms.”

Sister-in-law Wu saw there really wasn’t a chance, and left sadly.

Having raised her son alone, now there was such a good opportunity, yet she lost it like this. She thought she wouldn’t become a burden to her son in the future.

She returned to her room, packing her things while crying.

In the future, she’d work herself to exhaustion every day and still wouldn’t lead a good life.

After freshening up, Guodong returned to the room where Zhao Xiaoqiang was already waiting on the bed for him.

”Brother Guodong, my sister didn’t mean anything else, she has already asked Sister-in-law Wu to leave.”

”Xiaoqiang, tell your sister she doesn’t need to do that. We really have troubled you two too much. Now that your brother-in-law is not at home, she can’t manage alone.”

”Brother Guodong. Don’t say that. Without you and your family, there wouldn’t be my sister and me.

My sister said she wanted to remind Sister Jing Chu, but she didn’t know it would turn out like this.”

”Xiaoqiang, no need to speak further, don’t worry, our relationship won’t change.”

”But, you and Sister Jing Chu must be feeling very upset.”

”They’re unimportant people, just don’t overthink it.”

Zhao Xiaoqiang lay down with a heavy heart.

Early the next morning, Jing Chu got up and went to the kitchen, seeing Sister-in-law Wu cooking, she turned and left, waiting for her to finish using the stove before making her own meal.

”Jing Chu, wait a moment.”

”There’s no need to say anything, you all handle your own affairs.” Jing Chu didn’t even turn her head.

”I’m leaving today. I made your meal this morning.”

”No need.”

At this time, Guodong also came out.

”Brother, you go ask the village chief for leave.”

”Alright, we’ll head up the mountain after breakfast.”

At this moment, Zhao Xiaoqiang also came out. ”Brother Guodong, I’ll go with you.”

Without being refused, he relaxed his expression.

Jing Chu turned back into the kitchen. Since they’re going up the mountain, we’ll have pancakes for breakfast.

Jing Chu can make any meal, but the taste is just average; making pancakes is not too hard for her.

After finishing the dough, she thought about making veggie dumplings so she wouldn’t have to stir-fry vegetables separately.

Then she chopped cabbage vigorously, and also sliced off a piece of smoked meat, washed it clean and minced it before mixing the stuffing.

Guodong and Xiaoqiang returned, helping his sister with the fire.

”Brother, let’s push the cart.”

”Afraid it might get stolen.”

”Just push it up the mountain, right?”

”Alright, let’s push the cart then.”

”Don’t overdo it, otherwise I won’t let you go.” Aunt Jiang and Dad both reminded them, the two of them are still young, don’t overexert, it’s not good for health.

”I know.”

Zhao Xiaoli and her siblings and Sister-in-law Wu ate steamed buns and corn grits porridge.

No one spoke. It was quite quiet.

After finishing eating, Zhao Xiaoqiang said, ”Sis, later I’ll go up the mountain to chop firewood with Brother Guodong. We’ve already asked the village chief for leave.”

”Alright, take care. We have enough firewood at home.”

”Got it.”

After eating, Sister-in-law Wu tidied up the table, then went to pick up her luggage.

Zhao Xiaoli gave her nine yuan, which was all her salary for the month.

”Xiaoli, take care of yourself.”

”Yes, Sister-in-law Wu, take care on your way.”

When Sister-in-law Wu left, the brother and sister were eating in the kitchen, and neither side met.

After eating, the two cleaned the kitchen and then came out.

Zhao Xiaoqiang was already waiting with a basket on his back.

Jing Chu was also carrying a basket and holding a hatchet, the same hatchet given by Aunt Jiang last time.

”Sister Jing Chu, shall we push the cart?”

”Yeah, it’s better than carrying it back.

Don’t worry, we’ll push the cart up, and we won’t go too far.”

Even though we’ll spend the entire winter at Aunt Jiang’s place, we still need firewood in the spring.

While there’s some free time now, it’s best to prepare more. That’s why Jing Chu didn’t oppose Brother going up the mountain.

The three of them set out, heading directly towards the mountain.

Talking and laughing along the way, Xiaoqiang felt much more at ease, worried that Sister Jing Chu might still be upset.

The mountain range is so vast, with dense foliage, so the three of them chopped wood in a spot where the branches were most abundant.

”From now on, let’s burn tree branches.” Guodong laughed.

”Brother, we’re taking leave these few days, we need to chop firewood every day. Stocking up on firewood is never wrong. Even if we stay at Aunt Jiang’s house this year, we’ll need it when spring comes.”

Guodong understood his sister’s intentions; she didn’t want to involve Sister Xiaoli anymore.

Actually, Sister Xiaoli wasn’t a bad person, and she was very close to them siblings, but sometimes she doesn’t think things through when she speaks and acts.

No matter what he said now, his sister wouldn’t listen. Since they’ve arrived here, Uncle Yang has been taking care of them, now Sister Xiaoli and her husband are entwined in it, better to wait for Aunt Jiang to persuade her, Jing Chu would listen to Aunt Jiang.

Until eleven in the morning, all three loaded up the cart, Guodong pushed the cart, with Jing Chu and Xiaoqiang pulling the rope behind.

This was a lot more than yesterday, it took the three an hour to reach home, Guodong’s shirt was soaked through, it was indeed laborious work, the other two didn’t have such strength.

”Brother, let’s push it into the yard to dry, I’m afraid someone might come and take it, getting upset over a bit of firewood isn’t worth it.”

”Okay.” Guodong, aside from matters of principle, listened to his sister in everything else.

It wasn’t easy for the two along the way, pulling in front like this made it much easier for Guodong.

Zhao Xiaoli heard the commotion outside and hurried out from the kitchen.

”Why so much?” She couldn’t see Guodong from the front.

”We’re going again in the afternoon.” Jing Chu spoke up, at least she couldn’t ignore face, knowing what kind of person Zhao Xiaoli is, just avoid certain topics from now on, she figured this out last night.

Hearing the two women’s words, both Guodong and Xiaoqiang let out a sigh of relief. Afraid of Jing Chu being stubborn, then living together would be inconvenient and awkward.

Zhao Xiaoli was also extremely pleasantly surprised, Jing Chu was still talking to her, not angry anymore, it seemed asking Sister-in-law Wu to leave was the right decision.

The three unloaded the cart, leaned the branches against the wall for easy drying, they’ll be stored in the firewood room in a few days.

After finishing, Jing Chu went directly to the kitchen to boil water, seeing the big pot was steaming rice, she thought it through and went to her own room to start the stove. That way there’d be hot water to use, and the heat would make the bed warm at night.
