NTR: Barbarian Harem Conquest

Grathak held the look for another three heartbeats, then sat back with a low, rumbling sound that might have been acceptance or simply the end of the immediate test.

”Sufficient. Then we move to the public seal.”

Kessa had entered the hall during the later exchanges, striped tail still, ears forward, taking a place slightly behind and to the side of Kane’s chair.

When Grathak’s attention shifted to her, she met it without flinching.

”Tiger,” the emperor said.

”Your claim on the outsider is already known. The packs require it spoken cleanly. Do you accept the formal bond that locks Berakamon’s strength to him?”

Kessa’s reply was short and sharp, exactly the tone the hall expected from her.

”I already claimed him. Making it formal for your banners changes nothing about that. It stands.”

Another murmur, louder this time.

The political engagement was effectively sealed without the full ceremonial weight of a traditional binding.

Enough for the southern and river-aligned packs.

Enough for the deeper bloodlines that had been waiting for a clear signal.

The pure-blood faction looked openly sour but did not rise to challenge it in the open hall.

Grathak’s grin widened.

”Then the core terms are locked. Detailed schedules and route protections will be finalized over the next two sessions. Fighting strength begins staging within the week. The outsider sits at this table as a voice with weight instead of a guest who has not yet been dismissed. We are finished for the day.”

The formal close moved quickly after that.

Representatives began rising, gathering their attendants, already breaking into smaller clusters of conversation as they filed toward the exits.

The atmosphere in the hall had shifted again, less open hostility, more calculation, the sense that the board had solidified around a set of terms most of them could live with.

Kane remained seated a moment longer.

Across the width of the hall, Marisa stood near one of the side pillars where she had kept her place throughout the talks.

Their eyes met for a single brief instant.

No nod or change in expression.

Only the shared, private knowledge that the mask had held, the terms were publicly accepted, and the private opening they had discussed was now one step closer. Both looked away at the same time.

Kessa stepped up beside Kane’s chair as the last of the major banners began to clear.

”You accepted it cleanly,” she said, voice low enough to stay between them.

”No pushback. No extra conditions. That is not how you usually take an offer that large.”

Kane stood, adjusted Mjoldr’s weight, and started toward the exit with her falling into step.

”The terms are what we came for. Trade, warriors, a locked commitment. The family condition was always going to be part of any real agreement here. You already decided that part days ago.”

Kessa’s ears angled toward him, suspicious but not openly hostile.

”And whatever you found when you went walking this afternoon? You came back different. Quieter.”

”I found an empire that is more ready for the sixty days than most. That is enough for the table.”

He glanced sideways at her.

”The rest stays between us until it needs to be spoken. Not here. Not in the corridor.”

She studied his face for a stretch of steps, then gave a short, reluctant sound of acceptance.

Griselda joined them near the main arch, yellow eyes moving over Kane once in quiet assessment before she fell in on his other side.

The three of them left the hall together under the eyes of the remaining warriors and attendants.

Behind them, the factions dispersed through the palace and the outer districts carrying the same impression: the barbarian had taken the offers, sealed the family condition through the tiger-striped woman, and shown no sign that anything in Berakamon’s deeper levels had altered his course.

The coalition table held. The support was locked. The outsider appeared fully bought in.

Only Kane, and the woman who had met his eyes across the hall, knew the mask was temporary and the real price had already been decided. The next private opening Grathak gave him would end in more than a conversation.

Until then the table would continue, the terms would stand, and every banner that had watched the Measures would believe the barbarian was exactly where the emperor wanted him.

Night had settled hard over the outer training grounds.

The air was cold enough that Kane’s breath and the heat rising from his skin turned to visible steam under the sparse torchlight.

He had stripped to the waist hours earlier; sweat ran down the new scars the Guardian’s power had left across his chest and the older marks beneath them.

Red hair hung loose around his shoulders, damp and sticking to his neck.

Mjoldr sat planted in the packed earth a few paces away while he worked bare-handed through a relentless series of forms, strikes, pivots, low kicks, the exact angles he had used against Grathak in the underground corridor and the ones he had not risked when the packs were watching.

He was spending too much time here.

The thought kept returning between every combination.

Five days of talks. The road, the underground, the careful mask at the table.

Every day spent locking Berakamon into the coalition was a day not spent in Menual or the elven territories.

He had no clean word on Thora or Misha.

No certainty that the elves had not already begun to shift under some new pressure or old grudge.

The system could tell him the state of his own body in precise percentages. It could not tell him whether the women he had left behind still stood in the same places he had last seen them.

And Grathak.

Even holding back in that first underground exchange, Kane had felt the gap.

Raw mass, reach, the kind of densified strength that came from two hundred years of unbroken dominance.

The Controlled Berserker Output and the adaptations from the Measures narrowed it.

They didn’t erase it. In a traditional, open fight with no confined walls and no surprise, the outcome was no longer something he could simply assume.

He drove a final elbow strike into the heavy wooden post set at the edge of the circle, hard enough to crack the outer layer, then stopped, steam rising from his shoulders and back, breath steady but deep.

Soft footsteps approached across the packed earth.

He did not turn. He already knew the cadence.

Marisa stopped a few paces behind him, dark wrap pulled close against the night chill, long black hair loose.

For a time she simply watched him stand there shirtless and steaming under the torches. When she spoke, her voice was quiet and carried no court polish.

”Grathak’s experiment has one more phase.”

Kane turned his head just enough to look at her over one shoulder.

Sweat traced the line of a fresh scar.

”What is it?”
