NTR: Barbarian Harem Conquest

Kane lay still for a while, staring at the dark stone ceiling of the guest chamber.

Thora’s face rose first in his mind, stubborn, scarred, the way she looked at him when she thought he was being reckless.

Misha next, quieter, golden eyes always measuring the political cost of every move he made.

Sira.

Firlia.

The rest of the women who had tied themselves to him across two empires.

He wondered what problems Sira and Sarah had dropped on Menual or Milfheim in his absence.

Something ridiculous, probably. Something that would make him want to laugh and then immediately want to hit someone.

It was strange to miss them this sharply.

This had started as a game.

A body in a pod, a character on a screen, a set of systems someone else had designed.

Now the pain was real. The blood had been real. The possibility of dying under Grathak’s heel had been real. And the people waiting for him, Thora, Misha, the others, were no longer data.

They were the reason he kept standing back up.

He wanted to finish this. Save what could still be saved. Then live something that was not measured in quests and threat assessments.

Kane sat up slowly, tested his range of motion, and swung his legs over the side of the bed.

The chamber was quiet. No windows. Only the low, constant hum of the palace above and below. He stood, rolled his shoulders, and began to move.

He worked through a slow, precise routine barefoot on the stone floor, nothing loud enough to draw attention, everything focused on the exact angles and timings of the previous night’s fight.

The way Grathak’s weight shifted before a kick. The deceptive speed of those long arms. The moment the emperor had stopped playing and simply overwhelmed him.

Kane replayed every exchange in his mind while his body mirrored the counters he should have used, the ones that might work next time if he could create the right opening.

The system window opened without being called, blue text hovering at the edge of his vision.

[Physical Condition: 78% recovered]

[Residual Trauma: Deep tissue bruising, micro-fractures sealed]

[Combat Analysis Available – Grathak Encounter]

[Review? Y/N]

Kane focused on the affirmative.

The window expanded, replaying key moments in clean, clinical breakdowns.

Impact force estimates.

Reaction time comparisons.

The exact point where Berserker Rage had been available but deliberately throttled.

Notes on Grathak’s recovery speed and the way the emperor’s skin and muscle had resisted deeper penetration from Mjoldr.

Kane spoke quietly to the empty room, the way he sometimes did when the system was the only thing listening.

”Show me the efficiency drop when I held back the full Rage.”

[Rage Output: 41% of maximum during engagement]

[Estimated damage increase at 70% output: +63%]

[Estimated damage increase at full output: +140%]

[Warning: Full output in confined space with multiple witnesses carries high political risk]

”I know.”

Kane dropped into a low stance, shadow-sparring the memory of Grathak’s reach.

”If I had gone all out down there, the packs would have turned on me before I left the corridor. Half measures kept me alive long enough to be interesting instead of dead.”

The system offered another line.

[Skill Adaptation Detected]

[New refinement available: Controlled Berserker Output]

[Effect: Allows finer throttling of Rage between 20–80% with reduced backlash]

[Cost: 1 Skill Point]

[Accept? Y/N]

Kane did not hesitate.

”Accept.”

[Skill Updated – Controlled Berserker Output]

[Current Skill Points remaining: 2]

A faint warmth settled into his limbs, the knowledge of the new control locking into place.

He tested it immediately, letting a thin thread of Rage rise to around thirty percent, enough to sharpen his senses and add weight to a hypothetical strike, not enough to flood the room with killing intent.

The difference was clean. Usable. He let it fade again.

He kept working, sweat beginning to bead across his back and chest despite the cool stone.

The system continued feeding small corrections, footwork angles that would have let him slip the second throw, a tighter grip adjustment on Mjoldr that might have turned one of the shallower cuts into something more serious.

Kane absorbed every note in silence, body moving through the sequences until the sharpest edges of stiffness had burned away.

He was in the middle of a slow, deliberate axe form, imagining Grathak’s reach, the way the emperor liked to close distance and use raw mass—when the door opened without a knock.

Marisa stepped inside.

She had changed into a cleaner, more formal wrap of dark fabric that still did little to hide the full lines of her body. Her long black hair was down again, neatly combed. Her eyes moved over Kane’s bare torso, the fading bruises, the light sheen of sweat, and the axe resting in his hands.

Whatever she thought of the sight, she kept it behind the political mask.

”Brother called you,” she said.

Kane lowered Mjoldr and rolled one wrist, feeling the new Controlled Berserker Output settle into familiar pathways.

”Already?”

”The upper hall is being prepared. The packs that matter were informed before dawn. He wants you there before the full audience gathers. Something about finishing the conversation you started with blood.”

Kane set the axe aside, took a clean cloth from the basin, and wiped the sweat from his face and chest.

The pain was still present, but it no longer limited movement.

”How many will be watching?”

”Enough.” Marisa’s voice stayed even.

”Vorra’s representative arrived. Two of the pure-blood line heads. Several war-chiefs who have been waiting to see whether the human who drew the emperor’s blood can stand through a second exchange. He intends to make a statement. Whether that statement is your survival or your public breaking is still undecided.”

Kane pulled on a fresh shirt, then the light armor he had carried, and settled Mjoldr across his back.

”Then we shouldn’t keep him waiting.”

Marisa’s amber eyes lingered on him a moment longer, on the places she had touched the night before, on the improved ease of his movement, on the quiet readiness that had replaced the half-broken state she had left him in.

”Try not to force the full trial today,” she said quietly.

”The visions are clearer when the packs are given time to talk between measurements. A second public survival will move more pieces than a single decisive kill.”

Kane met her gaze.

”I’ll survive first. Everything after that is flexible.”

Marisa held the look, then turned and opened the door wider.

”Come. He is already seated. And he is in a rare mood. That is never as safe as it sounds.”
