NTR: Barbarian Harem Conquest

A deeper-blooded war-chief who had only arrived the previous evening added his voice.

”The mutants are still pushing. Three more outer posts sent runners in the last two days. If the sister’s seventy-day window is accurate, we do not have the luxury of endless testing. Measure him fully and decide.”

More voices joined, some hostile, some pragmatic, a few openly curious.

The discussion moved in the same measured, brutal fashion as before: strength respected, weakness discarded, visions treated as useful but not sufficient on their own.

Through it all, Grathak listened, occasionally tearing another strip of meat from the platter at his side, red eyes moving from speaker to speaker and returning, again and again, to Kane.

Finally, the emperor raised one massive hand.

The hall quieted.

Grathak’s voice rolled across the space, amused and final.

”The council has talked enough. The barbarian stood through the First Measure clean. He stood through the Second Measure bleeding. The packs that matter have seen both. Tomorrow at dusk we finish it. I will call a lesser manifestation of the Guardian’s power. If the outsider remains standing when that power withdraws, we will speak of coalitions and devils and the shape of the next seventy days. If he falls, the conversation ends, and the pens gain whatever is left.”

A silence followed the declaration.

Even the pure-blood faction did not immediately argue.

Calling the Guardian’s power, even a limited manifestation, was not a casual escalation.

It was the kind of test that left permanent marks on the memory of every pack that witnessed it.

Grathak’s red eyes settled on Kane.

”You have until dusk tomorrow. Rest. Heal. Fuck whoever you need to fuck to be ready. When the sun drops, you will stand in the circle and show every faction that rode here whether you are worth the risk of listening.”

Kane met the stare without looking away.

”I’ll be ready.”

Grathak’s grin widened, sharp and pleased.

”We will see.”

They were given a private side chamber after the council session ended.

The room was sparse: stone walls, a single long table, four chairs, one high window that let in the grey afternoon light. The moment the door closed, Kessa turned on Kane, striped tail lashing, ears flat.

”You let her put her scent all over you for ’healing.’ You let her walk out of your room smelling like she had been thoroughly fucked while we were still on the road. And now we’re all supposed to stand in the same arena tomorrow like that didn’t happen.”

Kane met her stare without flinching.

”It happened. I needed the recovery. The Second Measure left me with damage that would have slowed me too much for what’s coming. I used what was available.”

Kessa’s voice rose a fraction.

”Available. That’s what you’re calling the emperor’s sister now?”

Griselda stood near the window, wings folded, eyes watching the exchange with quiet attention. Marisa remained by the door, expression composed, offering no defense.

Kane stepped closer to Kessa and lowered his voice.

”You’re not being replaced. You’re not being moved down some list. I made a practical choice under pressure, and I would make it again if the alternative was walking into the Third Measure half-broken. After it’s finished, after I’m still standing, I will take you apart properly. No politics. No healing excuses. Just you, as many times as you can take, until you stop looking at me like you’re deciding where to put the knife.”

Kessa’s ears twitched.

The anger didn’t vanish, but it shifted, heat moving under the possessiveness.

”You’d better mean that.”

”I mean it. After the Third Measure, you’re first. I’ll fuck you senseless, Kessa. That’s a promise.”

She held his gaze a moment longer, then exhaled hard and looked away, the worst of the immediate edge blunted.

Griselda’s quiet voice cut in from the window.

”The sixty-nine-day window is real enough that every faction in that hall treated it as a planning number, not a story. Whatever the Guardian’s manifestation does tomorrow, the clock does not stop. We need him functional more than we need clean scents.”

Marisa finally spoke, amber eyes moving across the three of them.

”The manifestation will not fight like a beast warrior or like my brother. It carries weight from something older. It will test whether the Rage and the Mark and the system you carry are compatible with the deep forest’s judgment. If it decides you are an intrusion, it will try to erase you. If it decides you are useful, it will withdraw after the measure is made. There is very little middle ground.”

Kane nodded once.

”Then we prepare for the first possibility and hope for the second. Rest, food, whatever edge we can still sharpen before dusk tomorrow. No more open fights between us until after I’m back on my feet.”

Kessa muttered something under her breath that sounded half like agreement and half like a promise of later violence, then leaned her shoulder briefly against Kane’s in rough acceptance.

Griselda inclined her head. Marisa opened the door again, the political mask fully restored.

Dusk settled over Berakamon like a held breath.

The upper arena and every surrounding terrace were packed beyond capacity.

Banners from packs that had not been present for the first two Measures now lined the rails.

The air itself had changed, colder, heavier, carrying the dense, green-black scent of the deep forest that normally never reached the capital’s heart.

Warriors stood in near silence.

Even the pure-blood faction had stopped their open commentary.

High on the northern seat, Grathak waited with both massive hands resting on the arms of the throne, red eyes fully open for once.

Kane stepped onto the dark stone floor alone.

Mjoldr rested in his grip.

The damage from the Second Measure was present but manageable; the night’s aggressive healing had done its work.

Kessa and Griselda took their places in the designated observation area along the eastern rail. Marisa stood near her brother’s seat, amber eyes fixed on the center of the arena.

Grathak rose.

He spoke no long speech.

He simply extended one clawed hand toward the open stone and released a short, guttural call that was not in any common tongue.

The temperature dropped another full degree. The scent of deep forest thickened until it was almost a taste.

Shadows along the arena floor stretched and twisted without any change in the dying light.

The lesser manifestation of the Guardian took shape.

It condensed, first as a denser patch of cold, then as a towering silhouette that resolved into something almost animal and almost not.

What the fuck?
