NTR: Barbarian Harem Conquest

Kessa exhaled slowly once the door closed.

”He’s angrier than he looks. Breaking a ranked male in public is the kind of thing that forces higher packs to take notice. Some will respect it. Some will decide you need to be tested harder.”

Kane started toward the guest house.

”Let them decide. I’m not here to make friends with every pack that thinks a wing or a ranked female is free for the taking.”

Griselda spoke quietly as they walked.

”The market will talk about this longer than the inn. A human who cripples a ranked male and walks away is either very strong or very stupid. They will want to know which.”

Kessa’s tail flicked once.

”They’ll find out the same way everyone else has. The hard way.”

Night had settled fully over the compound when the soft knock came at the guest-house door.

Kessa was already on her feet before the second knock.

Griselda’s wings shifted once in the dark. Kane rose, took Mjoldr in one hand, and opened the door.

Marisa stood in the shadows just beyond the threshold.

No dark robe this time, only a simple traveler’s cloak with the hood drawn low, long black hair tucked out of sight.

The amber eyes that met his carried the same steady pull as before, but the approach was quieter, more careful. She had not come through the main gate.

”Barbarian,” she said.

”We speak now, or we speak when my brother forces the conversation in front of every pair of eyes that matter.”

Kane stepped aside.

Marisa entered.

Kessa closed the door and put her back to it, arms crossed, striped tail still.

Griselda remained in her corner, yellow eyes open and watchful.

No one offered Marisa a seat. She did not seem to expect one.

Marisa pushed the hood back.

In the low lamp light, her features looked sharper, the refined beauty of the emperor’s sister set against the rough timber walls of a guest house that still smelled of sex and steel.

”You walked the outer pens,” she said.

”You broke a beast warrior’s arm in the market. You are no longer an interesting rumor. You are a problem my brother has started preparing for.”

Kane leaned against the far wall, Mjoldr resting beside him.

”Then say what you came to say.”

Marisa’s gaze moved briefly to Kessa, then to Griselda, then back to Kane.

”I have seen more clearly than before. An arena. Stone and bone. Packs packed tight along every tier. My brother stands in the center with the guardian’s shadow behind him. You stand opposite him. When it ends, you are the one still on your feet, and he is not. The packs watch. They do not rise for him.”

Kessa’s ears angled forward.

”Convenient vision.”

Marisa didn’t look at her.

”Visions are rarely convenient. They simply are. This one has repeated three times since you entered the true border. Each time the details grow sharper. Each time the outcome remains the same, if you accept the trial he is preparing.”

Kane’s voice stayed level.

”And if I refuse the trial?”

”Then the vision changes. The arena still appears, but the one on the ground is you. The packs take what they want from whatever is left. Kessa is claimed by someone who can hold her. The winged one is taken to the deeper pens. Berakamon continues exactly as it has for decades, and the sky still breaks on schedule.”

Griselda’s wings tightened.

Kessa’s tail lashed once against the door.

Marisa continued as if she had not noticed.

”Grathak has already begun the welcome. Messengers have gone to three of the larger packs. He is not simply going to summon you for a private talk. He is going to force a public answer. Strength is the only language that carries weight here. He will use it. You will either meet it or be broken by it.”

Kane studied her.

”You still want me to kill him.”

”I want the ending in which the packs still have something left to point at the real enemy when the devils arrive. My brother will not give them that. You might.”

Kessa pushed off the door and took two steps into the room. Her voice was controlled, but the edge underneath was unmistakable.

”You’re standing in a house that belongs to my bloodline, talking about handing this empire to a human and putting yourself in his bed as the price. I’m not a piece that gets moved when it’s convenient for your visions.”

Marisa finally looked at her.

The eyes held no heat and no apology.

”You are already at his side. That is not in question. What is in question is whether you remain there after the packs decide what a human victory over their emperor means. I am not trying to remove you. I am telling both of you the shape of the days that are coming.”

Kessa’s ears stayed flat.

”Then say it plainly. No visions. No riddles.”

Marisa inclined her head a fraction.

”Plainly: Grathak will call for a public trial within the week. He will frame it as a test of the outsider who walks his streets with a beast warrior at his side and a fallen angel at his back. He will use the arena. He will use whatever force he believes will make an example. If Kane survives and stands over him, the packs will expect the victor to take the emperor’s sister in front of them. That is how power has transferred when an outsider topples a sitting emperor. If Kane refuses that final step, the packs will decide the victory is incomplete, and the fighting will not end with Grathak.”

Silence settled for a moment. The compound outside was quiet except for distant night sounds.

Kane spoke first.

”You’re very certain of the sequence.”

”I have watched it enough times.” Marisa’s voice softened only slightly.

”I am not asking you to trust me because I am beautiful or because I offered my body the first night. I’m asking you to look at the path that does not end with this empire tearing itself apart while the real enemy arrives. My brother will not change. He cannot. The only variable that has ever shifted the ending is you.”

Kessa crossed her arms tighter.

”And after he’s dead and you’ve been claimed in front of the packs? What happens to the rest of us who already stand with him?”
